I think Joe has around 300k in it. It was completely torn down and restored, rewired, new BMW 7 series seats. It's nuts. They put in a supercharged LS3 with 550 hp.
Except for the LS swap. I just don’t get why someone would want to take one of the most reliable powertrain/drivetrains of all time. And then swap it out for more power, and way worse fuel economy. When they’re trying to build an ‘apocalypse’ vehicle lol.
@@AshtrayAnnie I don't have a problem with the LS swap. It's a good choice of engine for these vehicles. The Toyota engines are "agricultural" at best. I put a 6.2 Chev V8 diesel in mine and it was a massive improvement over original. If I was to do it again today with the way the fuel prices have gone, I'd probably put in the LS myself.

I love the LS series of engines like any gearhead but gasoline goes bad over time and good luck even finding premium in a survival situation. This rig should have a diesel. Rogan has the cash to get a foreign market powerplant imported and installed if he didn't like the ones available in the US.

Hey mate, I have some compound on the snorkel from where the previous owner hit it while buffing it. I tried hitting it with a power washer but it's stuck on......Any tips to get it off without ruining the Safari snorkel?
Jonathan Ward, the builder, said that he went with GM because Toyota doesn't directly sell engines. Trying to source them by other means "isn't their style" if I remember correctly.

Since then I’ve owned at least a dozen of them, most of them turbocharged including a few MR2, AWD Celicas and a few Lexus LS’s. The Toyota 4.7L V8 they used in the early V8 trucks is derivative of the 4.0L in my Lexi. That engine is quite remarkable in luxury barge form. I have not had the pleasure of driving the heavy iron block, long stroke version they put in the trucks but I suspect it is also very good and would take well to the TRD power adders like the available TRD roots-type supercharger or an aftermarket turbocharger. That being said, I was mostly just being a cheerleader for keeping it in the Family. I know very well how good the GM V8’s are for reliable brute strength if not the refinement of the Lexus V8. Edit: The builder is wrong about one thing tho - Toyota does still offer crate engines for most of their popular offerings (Of which the 2UZ-FE is one of the most popular due to it’s highly successful use in Landcruisers, etc). They’re not cheap but they are available from the factory here in Texas.

Let’s be real, this truck was just delivered not even two months ago brand new to Joe Rogan from TLC. All this guy did was wash and detail, that’s it! Nothing incredible about wiping and swiping.
80 Series is without a doubt the best model Landcruiser ever made - and that is one of the best examples I have seen in a long time.

We bought one last year and it's a hoss goes anywhere pulls what it needs out it's about as good as my 99 f250 nothing drives like a landcruiser

Should have used the Toyota V8. Proper DOHC with variable valve timing. Million mile proven Toyota quality.
