I have four resale contracts at four different resorts. After I decided on the first contract with a September UY, I only looked for other contracts with a September UY. It made shopping the resale market much easier and it makes a world of difference with keeping up with the banking deadline. I was patient and found the contracts I wanted all within 2 years.
I had to giggle about the three questions because immediately I think of Holy Grail: What is your name? What is your quest? What is your favorite color? (Blue! No yellloooooooowwww...)
We have all of our contracts with in April use year. Of the resorts were purchased through Disney. When I look at the resale market, it makes it easy because I just look for April. It is complicated enough without juggling multiple us years.
I’m loving these DVC shows. We’ve been talking about purchasing DVC for a while but have so many questions and these are helping answer my questions. I would love to see a show about availability at the 11 and 7 month window and less. Our biggest concern is having to stay somewhere we don’t want to stay Because availability is gone.
When we bought our first contract, UY was explained, but not why choose one over another. We happened into a December use year. However, at the time, we traveled every spring break, which was the week before Easter for our school's. Now that tickets have black outs, it's pay significantly more or go in summer. Just one more year and my youngest is out of high school and we can go when we want again. Hint.. it won't be August.
Another great episode! I have all 3 of my contracts with the same use year - March. I had to be patient for a contract with that use to come up but it has made managing my points so much easier.
I bought PVB direct from Disney and bought a different use year from my first contract at BLT. I had to specifically ask for it, but they allowed it with no problems.
There's another reason to pick a use year- when you first buy (particularly resale) will you have enough points on the contract for your first trip? So say you buy a resale in November with no current years' points and you want to go in June, but it's August use year, the points won't be on for the trip. But buy one with a June use year, they will. Another reason to buy a particular use year.
Any news on the The Grand DVC review? As I a DVC owner since 2007 would be interested on your opinion on it especially after your experience staying at the “ main building”
i'm beginning to think Disney is trying to make things right so Pete won't go ham on 'em and hence the delay. Nice, but I want to see why I should not visit this resort I had no intention of visiting ever.
Great conversation! Question… if I buy a small resale contract for 50 points at Bay Lake, can I then add-on more points directly through Disney to take advantage of the direct “perks”?
I will soon have a 3rd UY. OKW Sep & Oct with Aulani Feb soon. Why? Price! I got some great resale deals. I treat different UY like different bank accounts. Really isn’t that hard.
Considering DVC but a lot of it is confusing to me. Would it make more financial sense to just RENT points instead of buying in? Can anyone tell me the advantages vs disadvantages of the 2 choices? Many thanks!!
This confused me a little bit. We are looking at resale in the near future (within the next few years) and we always go every November for 2 weeks travelling from the UK (obviously when COVID isn't a thing)... I was under the assumption that we should try and get a December use year so that gives us the 11 month window to book where we want so we can get those November dates booked in? Any help would be appreciated :)
@@kellygagnon1500 Which is why it should be called use month or the month your year refreshes. Use year makes it sound like my points refresh in 2022 or something. It's not refreshing due to the year. It's refreshing due to the month. I know, small point.
I thought i wouldnt get sucked in & become one of those “pete made me do it” dvc buyers..... have now convinced my parents to buy into Old Key West with a contract in hand lol
I recently attended a Riviera DVC Tour and when speaking with the rep was told that I could not pick my use year?? Is he incorrect then? I am not a current DVC member and do not own resale either.
Ok this is very basic question but not getting an answer from watching videos- Do you have to have the points in your account before you make a reservation? Or can you make an 11 month home resort reservation if you don’t have the points yet but you would have them when the time came to stay.
I had the same question in my head @lostcrazy65 and I found this elsewhere. "Use Year has nothing to do with when you may call to make a reservation. All of your points are actually in your account. You do not have to wait until your use year begins to make a reservation. You just have to match your vacation dates to the Use Year it falls within, and then make sure you have enough points in that Use Year to make the desired reservation." dvcinfo.com/dvc-information/buying-dvc/understanding-use-year/
Quick idea for a topic ...or rant depending on your thoughts/point of view .... cash paying clients getting free dining, Free gift card and DVC members getting stiffed every year?
I disagree with that as a complaint. Dvc members are getting a discount on their room as well as merchandis, dining , and AP discounts. They shouldn't be eligible for free dining, which requires a full price room.
I didn’t say they should I was merely suggesting it would be a good topic for discussion. Benefits for DVC members are a lot better than they were and long may that continue to improve. Especially considering the up front investment DVC members make. We all knew what we were getting for our $’s the day we joined...I’ve purchased the DDP while using points btw. That being said I’m sure the team have enough material for quite a few shows 👍🤓
Every single one of these videos just puts me off more and more on DVC. Vacationing and booking a hotel room should not require this much energy, effort and planning.
Sooo much cheaper than renting direct! Renting DVC points is actually how my family got hooked on staying at Deluxe Disney resorts in the first place. It's hard to go back to value resorts after that!
Jamie was very knowledgeable and even though it was a lot of information I thought she was very clear and gave good examples. Kudos to her
Antoine Edwards yes I’m very impressed with her!

I thought I knew a lot about DVC but after all these videos I realize there a LOT I don’t know. Love this series! Thanks for doing this!

I love way he explains things!
Another great episode!

Great info!! I learned a lot even after being a member 9 years. Wish I knew some it before purchasing.

Yes we would like the Grand Floridian review Pete.
Pete
You are better than a valium🙏

So if I usually travel in August, September, and December most of the time. What use year should I get, knowing there is no July and no May?
We have April use year and works well for us ..we are UK based and it helps with school holidays
Why is it called a use year instead of a use month? It seems like this is all about the month your contract refreshes and not the year.
Because you get all your points for the entire year on the first day of your use year month.

Bridget Lathrop 😹 I adore him!
Dang... this lady knows her $hit!
Would love a show about renting DVC points. Can non-members rent points easily? Is it cheaper than booking directly thru Disney?
Yes and yes. I’m staying at boardwalk for 6 nights for about $1600 when booking direct would be $3500+

If you buy direct this is not an issue 😁

It's not nearly as bad as it sounds!
I predict this show survives 6 more episodes tops.
Well, we're taping a bunch more shortly, so probably at least eight.
I love it!
Thank you Pete s.
