I have an 8 year old Graupner 300 Extra and I just want to add one thing,on an older plane,use less heat. You just want to reactivate the adhesives in the monocoat enough to reseal the edges. I wouldnt recommend a higher heat because you could possibly over stretch the material and have the whole seam pull up . If there isnt large bubbles and baggy area's,then dont start out on a high heat. Best bet is to start low,test a spot,if it works,then good,move on. If you need to boost the heat ,do it in gradual increments. Remember,you are working with older covering,not new. I had great luck with the method and can say I had no problems. I know if I had started with a higher heat setting,I would have risked stretching to the point my seams would have popped.Those sox are .99 cents guys,invest in a new one when they get dirty,you risk getting odd colored stuff on your covering and that sock is going to fall apart when you wash it or end up with stuff on the back side so it wont lay flat on the iron,or worse,the material you are working with. Every iron heats differently too. If you have never worked with a new iron,they smoke and stink when you first fire them up. It might even be a good idea to take it outside for the first time heating it up. Start out at a higher setting to burn off the lubricants or whatever might emit that smell. let it run for ten minutes,then turn it down. they used to sell a type of temperature guage you could lay your iron on that told you what the exact temp was. I dont think you can get those any more. This is a good video and last word of advice. If you are going to fly a plane with any kind of covering,you might as well invest in an iron. I got mine from Hanger 9. If you have an accident and need to do a repair, you are going to want to remove the covering,fix the damage and recover the spot. The material is cheap enough and there are plenty of You- Tube video's showing how to properly cover a plane. Happy flying.
My Hanger9 iron isn't working very well like your video. I've taken temp from 225 to 325 on this Oracote covering but having trouble getting lines worked out
Hey Antonio! I maiden my dynam turbo jet but it didn't go well. At first I was flying fine but then once I got to 60% throttle it started spinning in the air and crash down. Since one motor was delay by one second apart, do u think that was the cause?
Hi, i just bought a T-28 Trojan and i don't know what kind of covering it has so how can I tell the difference? also I see that there's is a lot of different irons out there on the market. is an iron just an iron and i am only going to be paying for a name brand?
Hangar 9, great planes, etc... Now they buy cheap airplanes made in China and rebrand them and sell. I bought a seawind from great planes, crashed it and found the airplane like kit in Ali express to replace the broken parts, and surprise! Was exactly the same!!

Question: once you’ve reattached the covering, does it keep coming loose? Reason I asked is I’m sure they didn’t leave the factory with wrinkles.

i have a lot of wrinkles that just dont seem to come out. do i need to keep working it? i am working in 65 degree weather.
how well will the heat gun do this job? my favourite little extra 260 saw lots of hard use last year and needs to be freshened up for spring
Heat guns work great but keep away from the edges

Aaron yes. And sock isn't necessary. You need a not too big iron and train on scrap to feel how hot and how fast you need to glide.
