Ivan Rebroff, born as Hans-Rolf Rippert, (31 July 1931 - 27 February 2008), was a German singer, allegedly of Russian ancestry, with an extraordinary vocal range of four and a half octaves, ranging from the soprano to impressive bass registers.

So sad, almost in tears, have recently discovered this gigantic talent, only to learn that he left us for good in 2008. Absolutely, bar none, the best Tevye since Zero Mostel and omg should've been playing the role on Broadway. None of this without mentioning a beautiful basso voice!
Yeah I was sad too when I read that on google cuz I am just 12 and I wanted to meet him and knowing that he dies in 2008 cuz this is my birth date year and I don't even got a chance to see him live.

Hi Jimmy as a young boy had the privilege of being within a meter of this giant. Capitol theatre on church square Pretoria South Africa. Glad you discovered him/ his music.

The best singer of all times. A great entertainer. A wonderful character. I am so privileged to have had a conversation with him in 2001. Rest in peace, Ivan. Sing with the angels, you have the voice for that.
I always loved Ivan Rebroff and his so wonderful voice = 4½ octave. I met him 1993 in Malmö, Sweden in cocert. I got his CD because I speek Russian and my father was Belorus. I bought his LP already 1969 in Gothenburg, where I lived before Malmö. I also have this LP until now and it is like new.
In 1967 I saw Ivan Rebroff perform in South Africa to a capacity packed house. Standing room only and what a man. He was BIG and what a voice when he sang Troika and Evening Bells. A very unique man indeed.

Tevye is a role I would have loved to play. Mr Rippert is one of my musical heroes and I would have enjoyed meeting him. He could do most everything musically and was a true force! His range was impressive too!

In last minutes of this clip Ivan says in Russian:"Let us drink vodka!". But after that he begins to drink some liquid that is not a vodka (vodka has not a color). And real Russians drink vodka at one draught... not as Ivan does. I did not see American musical "Fiddler on the roof". But I watched Soviet play about the same Russian events based on the tales of Sholom Aleykhem. It is played in Russian language by the best Russian actors in Moscow LenCom theatre. It is very popular for decades. RIP

Let me tell this I do remember seeing this very old movie The Fiddler on the Roof a long way back in some time in December of 1982. I tell you it was a very funny movie for absolutely for sure.
