  • Just a bit of hopefully useful information about coil tattoo machine springs from Camber Custom Metalworks. during the peak I was doing 6 or 7 shows a year around England, I built over 860 machines total, every single one handmade and unique and all made here in my own workshops. Tattoo Master magazine came and did a 6 page feature on my machine building courses, which were the only ones of their kind in the world. Unfortunately , the new breed of rotary foreign made junk gradually took hold , shows got quieter then covid set in so I made the decision to stop travelling about and ultimately to diversify my workshops to different products and only build to demand not for stock and soon stopped building altogether due to other commitments. I continue to support all of my builds that are still with their original owners ( most of them are ) and believe it or not as each machine was sold I kept a record of who bought it etc. I always did my best to avoid selling to scratchers, my hatred for them ruining this artform is still with me, and this got me bad reviews on scratcher forums etc, which I never cared about for obvious reasons. The lengths some of them went to to try to buy some of my stuff was crazy, the excuses, the scams etc but i knew most of them already. Even at shows where the big dealers, you know the ones, the usual mobs in the UK, that would sell machines to anyone yet claim they didn't, I still turned them away. Only to watch them go to a big dealer opposite me and buy a machine with no questions asked. Madness. My conscience was always clear. I loved my time within the industry, met some amazing people and made some really good friends over the years. Maybe one day, when I retire from full time employment, I'll have the chance to build a few more just for fun, I hope I don't forget how it's done but I guess I could always go back and watch some of the videos on here, eh !!. Enjoy, take care and stay safe always.

    I know it’s older but it’s a gem as far as teaching people general machine theory..Easy and very helpful…

      Thanks. Always used to enjoy doing my machine building courses, had people come from around the world as I was the only person doing them to a full extent and building the entire machine from scratch. Unfortunately my insurance company no longer wanted anything to do with it so had to stop.

    I know it is pretty basic stuff, I just want to share the info, get it out there, there's too many artists these days that don't know enough about this stuff, maybe coz they were self taught or their mentor's didn't know the info to pass it on. anyway, whatever, take a look, share it, if it helps great. I'll be putting up some more stuff soon, take care people, stay safe

      @@larrysvintage maybe something on the coil materials and other components like the capacitors would be useful?

    Why tattoo liner’s front spring is shorter than shader?

  • @biranicolella3509
    @biranicolella3509 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very informative. Thank you very much. I have a question: I am trying to replace the springs of my three machines. Some tattoo supplies here in UK offer a kit with Eikon springs, with gauge ranging from 16 to 22. They are all the same size. The web site does not know how to answer my question. I am looking for different sizes to fit three machines with different configurations, like shading, lining and colour packing. . Where can I find good quality springs for all my three machines? Where in fact do you order your springs? I really appreciate it. I hope you keep doing this type of video. It helps a lot. Thank you.

      eikon are very good quality but i never used them. I have springs made for me to my spec in the uk. all my machines use the same gauge springs, 18, the rears all being identical on every machine but the front springs I use 2 different lengths depending on whether it is a liner or shader. generally shader will have longer front spring that liner but not the only factor to consider. I only supply springs to people that have machines that I built so not much use to you there I am afraid. don't waste money on the eikon stuff as you won't use most of the kit and they are generally made for their green monster machines. the springs i use were made by frank at wild angel tattoo springs, he used to sell on ebay but not spoken to him for years. Nice guy and if he is still selling then i highly recommend his stuff. I used to buy 500 to 1000 at a time which is why i haven't spoken to him for ages. I hope this helps a bit. join my FB page camber custom metalworks and you can message me from there. cheers, all the best, stay safe

    How much do you charge for a custom liner

    • @larrysvintage
      @larrysvintage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry, i no longer do custom builds to order, just the occasional machine when I have time, just 5 or 6 a year nowadays. My machines are £150 each and have been the same price right from the start.

      Charvel are amazing guitars, I used to have a thing called a Charvette which was the cheaper end brand by them and it's the only guitar I regret selling, and I sold my american pro strat coz I never played it, worth plenty now mind you. the charvette had a super fast neck .

    I don't pay attention to the rest of the world very much but I'm finding out that everybody's using these dildo Motors machines and they are confused that everything doesn't use ink cartridges LOL. I've never used anything but coils I build my own machines cut my own Springs. I have a couple of cutback liners and the front Springs are really tiny. I have a few machine frames that are a hundred years old plus. I'd like to build them out but they're so small

    • @larrysvintage
      @larrysvintage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you really should've sent this on 1st April lol. almost hilarious. The hundred years old plus actually did make me laugh so fair play and as for tiny front springs, you must be american, they love that shit, they seem to enjoy replacing them every other tattoo, my springs never break because they're made properly. enjoy.
