I used a sharpie and wrote the number/name on the bottom of each individual pan. Ultimately, I removed the pans and combined them into a small ArtBin container (4 by 3 inch clear plastic) so that I can create a travel set of the colors I want. I love the Prima Watercolors. The new Confection sets are Woodlands, Essence and Complexions which is coming out in a few weeks. Thanks for the video! Sharlene

Cindy, I bought two sets last year: Shimmering lights and Pastel Dreams. Just like you suggested ;) but I split them into half, so that my artist daugther and I both have some shimmer and some pastel. Some colors are similar enough to make this work as a reduced „on the go“ palette even with half the colors.
The shimmering lights are great for overlay, like doing galaxies and stones. Decadent pies is a bunch of natural colours with 3 shimmers.
i like how straight forward you are, it's refreshing! say what's on your mind! also, really love the relationship you have with your daughter, seems like you guys really try to understand each other!
I would love to see a sample painting with these.

I have found with metallic and shimmer watercolours I have to hit the pallet with a spritz of water a few moments before I get to them with the brush, just to get them activated properly. I think the mica absorbs more water than the other bits in the colours, so it takes at least 2x the water to get them working like the other pallets.

Now I just need to pick which palette. I would definitely love it if you would make a video and review the other sets. Also, you mentioned comparing the Primas to Jane Davenport’s. Yes, please video that too.
Cindy, I wonder if I might impose upon you to answer a question. Between the “Classics” and the “Odyssey” palettes which would you get if it were your first and only watercolors? I’m even considering getting both but I’m afraid they may be too similar. I sure would love your take on it since I’m such a beginner. Thanks a million for the wonderful video!
I totally forgot you had reviewed these, and I'm so glad you did! I stumbled across a review of the newer "Complexions" palette done by a couple who were so giggly they almost forgot to tell us the name of the paints. So once they hazarded a guess about what it was, I searched YT and yours was the first that came up. So informative! Now I have to lookk and see whether there are any follow-ups.
Not to further enable but they have 3 more freaking sets coming out at the end of February or March...Complexions, Woodlands and Essence. And I am glad you mentioned Celestial bc I have not heard of that one...but now have to have it. Great swatch (that sounds so dirty) video with running commentary. Love it!

These are all beautiful as are the Jane Davenport. I haven’t used watercolors before and am just wondering what would they be used on besides making a painting? I want them but don’t know what to do with them 😂
You can use them in an art journal, to make greeting cards or notecards, paint in stamped images, you can paint letters (brush lettering can be done with an aquabrush and watercolors) or to fill in outline lettering :)
Maybe everyone knows by now, but later sets have the names printed in the chart. Number 44 is Sea Dream :)
Of all of the prima colors my favorites are 41 Lemonade and 47 Icy Sky

Hey Cindy, great video love seeing things swatched before I even consider buying them. Could you do a comparison with the Jane Davenport paints as I have some of those and would prefer not to get duplicate colours if I decided to buy any of these. A water container to clean your waterbrush would be helpful LOL - speaking as someone who hates having to refill my brushes they empty less quickly that way. So happy to wake up to this video made my day.
I just got 4 sets I got the pastel dreams, the classics, currents, and odyssey. I did the swatch cards and cut the tiny names and used a bit of glue and put them in the bottom of the pans☺️ Trust me I seen all the wraps 🤦🏻♀️ i was like shook did I do all these. 😅 I’m so excited on the pastel colors ready to watercolor 😍
I don't know how those shimmery paints are, it how much water you used, but my experience with shimmery/metallics is that you need to mix a lot and get an almost 50/50 water to paint ratio. Otherwise, for me at least, it just seems to be shimmery with a hint of color. Sometimes I mix my metallics to almost a paste, but not quite, if I want rich color with the shimmer.
Oh and YES could u puhleaseeee see a comparison to the JD Sets? I’ve been wanting to get those, too.
i most definitely will. I LOVE the JD sets with all of my being so I'll have to try to not be biased. lol

I really enjoyed this side-by-side comparison of these sets, even though I have them all except for the Odyssey and this video reallllly makes me want that set, lol. I'd love to see how you use these in an art piece. I'd also like to see how they compare to the Jane Davenport, which is a brand I've never tried but I'm always looking to add to my watercolor collection.
I never really stopped to consider how inconsistent Prima is with labeling their sets until now. I didn't consider it an issue because I leave all the pans in their original tin, but if I ever took pans out to create a travel set, I might be in trouble. I think labeling the pans with a Sharpie, as some others have suggested, would be a good idea.
I was wondering if those water brushes would be ok to hand letter with and what's your favorite things to paint?

I'm really getting in to watercoloring in Linda Ravenscroft's WATERCOLOR PAPER coloring books. They are on 300GSM paper. I just ordered Jane Davenports paints,and now I see these, oh boy hope I did not make a mistake ! I love your travel watercoloring flower book. Could you show us how you paint them? The clicking of the pans is some nice ass ASMR shit right there. I love it. I think I'm going to have to get The Classics set, these paints are the freaking bomb.

These look so pretty! I've been looking at different watercolor palettes, and I'd love it if you could do a big comparison with these palettes along with others, including the finetec and kuretake gansai tambi metallic palettes! And I'm not sure if I'm going crazy or not, but I thought I remembered you mentioning water brushes that have a flat brush tip for washes of color, did you or am I losing it? 😂
Wow, these are gorgeous! I don't have any of these or the Davenports, but a comparison or the two would be great. So would seeing a small watercolor sketch done in each of a similar subject, if the colors line up sufficiently.

I know it’s two years later, but just want to clarify for those watching, the point if the Shimmering set is not to have concentrated color, but to add shimmer onto pieces. Also, I think Cindy would prefer gouache to watercolor based on her reaction and what she is looking for in paints.

I am an art supply hoarder like you say you are, and I have all of the palettes...except the Celestial. It was supposed to be released with Odyssey, and I am about 85% sure it has been released as the Prima Marketing Metallic Accents - Pastels palette that was recently released (the original Prima Marketing Metallic Accents palette is around $15, and the Pastels one is as well on the Prima Marketing website - a lot cheaper than the tin palettes!). Just an update/FYI so you won’t go crazy when you are missing those 12 numbers in your swatch list! 😉
I just ordered the essence set. This brand is out of stock in my country. They’re so goooood! 💗

The Odyssey set should have had a nice grey instead of the white, imo. And I'd love to see some watercolour comparison videos, but even better would be a "here's what I suggest if you're just getting started with watercolours" video - both suggestions for specific items/palettes/etc., but also suggestions for what to look for or think about when buying a colour set or a brush set or whatever.

Cindy, this is like Christmas. Well, maybe not the colorful expressions between the wrappers and the nails, as Auhida Chowdhury pointed out. But I'm glad to see that I'm not the only collector of watercolor tins.
That shimmery white was definitely the star of that shimmery pallet, I see what you mean about the rest from that one not being as good
I want to see you paint something with any of them. Where could i use them? Junk Journals or my planners? I have used watercrayons in my happy planner.
I use watercolors in junk journals, art journals, filling in stamped images or outlined letters, to make greeting cards or notecards, and you can use them for accents in planners if the paper will stand up to the water. Some paper will buckle a lot or rip.

These are all the sets that I have seen prima make but celestial is one that I can’t find but I know there are some out there. Any who the last three ones are the newest and they are beautiful colors!

I love the Prima colors. The only one I won't buy is the Complexions because it's all colors that are pulled from the other palettes.

Can you tell me if they feel chalky or if they are easy to write on without gunking up pens?
they do feel a little chalky, but not overly so (it's subtle - the shimmers and the odyssey ones more so than the others). i tested a pigma micron felt tip and an inkjoy gel and didn't have a problem writing with either. 💕
If you're compari g them to those cheap sets that primary school kids use, then no they are nowhere near that chalky. But these prima colors are inexpensive so they aren't really buttery like other artist grade water colors.
