Sewage Ejector Pump Replacement

  • If your basement bathroom toilet is not flushing or your basement bathroom tub is not draining. It could be your sewage float has accumulated an excessive amount of toilet and simply needs to be removed. If you have a double plug in, the closet plug to the outlet is your sewage float switch and the back plug is your sewage pump directly. You can separate the plugs and help diagnose if it is the sewage float switch or if it is the sewage ejector pump itself. Unless you have grinder pump which almost no residential homes have these because they are super expensive. DO NOT flush flushable wipes , feminine products. It is best to flush one ply toilet paper and bodily fluids only. Residential pumps do not grind , they only pump waste, so wipes and thick toilet paper clog the toilets. if these plumbing tricks do not work you will need to have your sewage ejector pump (which by the way is the proper name, not sump pump) replaced.
Here is a video to help you get your sewage pump running if it is something minor:

Such a great point about the 2 ply toilet paper. The feel good toilet paper can really make a mess of your plumbing system 😬

It looks like you used a Zoeller pump with a vertical float. I am currently using a Liberty pump with a tethered float. Which do you recommend? I always fear the tethered float will get hung up on the side of the basin.

We loved the Liberty pump and used it for years. We adjust the tether a little shorter if needed so that doesn’t happen, however that can be tricky as if it is too short it continuously stays up and running. There is a fine line there. It seemed to be giving us more issues than we liked so we swapped to Zoeller for that reason. We like the double plug on Liberty better but have not had any issues so far with the Zoeller. We swapped over about a year ago.

Sometimes a little more for giving if you use a 2hp 230volt grinder pump but still not ment to flush junk down or it won't last either.

Bad design tank should be larger
That pump will short cycle and need replacing again
Also, there’s a lot of float clamp option out there to ensure the float stays

I know what you mean about the new installs!! I always said the same thing, my father and uncle were plumbers and I worked in plumbing as a child . I only did new work until the recession of 08 when there was literally no new work. It was either do service or lose everything we had. Sometimes I really miss building new systems but the service is fairly interesting also. This job was super nasty but it does pay . This is actually a very small percentage of the type of work we do , most of it is fairly clean. Best of luck in your plumbing adventures and thanks so much for watching!!!!

Have to clean toilet paper every 3 months and full pump failure at least once a year. Used zoeller m264 because it was cheaper and only lasted 2 months.
