  • Here's a video showing how to perform band kneeling hip thrusts. I like these more than band standing hip thrusts and also more than barbell kneeling squats.

Air humping for the gluteus awesome! Seriously this is a very accessible variation when equipment is limited. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome alternative to hip thrusts Bret!

Thanks for sharing this - Never seen that variation. great to have the resistance coming from a horizontal vector, and like you say it targets more glutes, less hamstrings!

I have been looking for a way to do the hip thrusts without having to put my shoulder blades on a bench (It hurts my upper back) I think this solves the problem! Thanks!

I still do heavy barbell hip thrust. But I like these in the circuit and standing plate abduction.

Why do I feel these in my quads and not glutes. The harder I squeeze the glutes the more the quads burn out .

I make eye contact with people when I do this to troll. Sometimes it backfires.

Hey Brett, Would this be considered beginner or advanced? Asking for my hubby, who has a L5S1 disc hernia, never done regular barbell HT before or much lifting. Is this something he could start with? Any other recommendations for someone like him? Thanks, anjuli.

youre a smart man Brett thanks for this,
how long do the glutes take to activate? been doing various rotational exercises 3 x 10 reps 2 - 3 times a week and im seeing positive results and definitely more control, but its still very limited, how much longer and why do we have such poor control over the glutes naturally?

    Hey bret,
Do you think this would only be good in glute activation warmups or it would be great to put it into a working set as a booty builder too?

But when you feel the quads more than the glutes? What to do?

I do these using a low cable station I've got in my shed. They take the hamstrings out of the movement, as you said, and they're much less clunky than a barbell. However, I find the stretch on my quads to be intolerable during longer sets. Anyone else findint this?

any suggestions how to set this up if the rack has no pins. only safety bars and rack. its a cage just like yours.

    • @slizzardman
      @slizzardman 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The safety bars usually have a handle sticking off, much like the pins are. If that's not how your rack is then you might consider buying a pair of pins for it. Seriously. They are cheap and even if you have to take them to the gym with you it would be useful. If you can't buy pins, 1/2" RMC will often fit and should only cost a few bucks for a 2 foot section, which you can cut to size and use like a pin.Once the band's on it it won't go anywhere. Not as nice as pins, but probably 20-40 bucks cheaper.
If none of that works for you then you could loop the band around one upright like a hitch and then use a carabeener and a short rope of some sort to attach around the other side.
Buying or making a set of pins is overall the best thing to do, really.
