was searching for a video about removing springs so I could use this joystick for my synthesizer. did not expect it to be from someone else using joysticks for synthesizers. A+

Perfect! I was searching for something like that so I can use a gamepad for my quadcopter simulator! Thanks a lot! :-)

Happened the same for me! Did it work?

@@champiww I don't think this will work it has to be centered horizontally

Brilliant! This will save me so much money. Those game pads sell so cheaply with such alarming regularity they must be disposable. So glad I found this video. Thanks!

any way to remove theses springs without desoldering the whole assembly? I'm terrible at soldering and wanted to repurpose an old xbox 360 controller into a throttle for flight simulator.

This works nicely if you're careful. Be careful not to cut yourself on the tabs. If you want a really nice feeling thumbstick with no spring return that you can swap in, Alps Alpine make one without spring return or centre push. It's part No. RKJXK1210002 and it's not cheap at about 9 quid a piece at low volumes.

Is there a way to remove the springing from just one of the axis? I want to use one axis for throttle control, while allowing the other axis to be able to celf center itself. It would be quite useful for flightsims.

I'm building a radio controller for a drone, and I need exactly this, I want to figure out how to remove only one of the springs.

      Hi.
Did you get to try this on a sim? I mean the way he does it in the video?
I was wondering how hard it would be to control the yaw if there were no resistance at all...

      Really hard

Had exactly the same idea... Think either i'll have to make a "lateral-only" spring (like two plans) and be sur it keeps its orientation... sounds hard, or maybe easier: add some mechanism external to the thumbstick module, with a vertical slot, between the module and the cap/stick, to allow free movement on the Y axis of the thumbstick

I have a quadcopter (Heliquad 2.4) and the throttle is one of these but the spring returns it to off. I was hoping there was a way to take out the spring without removing it completely. Lame. Great video though!
