Thanks for posting this vid! Good thing to let the plane speak for itself and demonstrate the acro moves, even with the gear out, proving a nice flight duration at the same time. Greetings from Belgium (Icarus the 2nd)

I see that the plane flies really good!!! Way too much gliding for my taste though. This makes it hard to see its higher end performance. This is more like a pattern planes routine where you only use throttle on uplines which works for a powerful prop plane but not so much with an edf. Half throttle for cruise helps keep the planes speed up. You can retain energy a little better that way and if you add throttle just a tad after you get into the dive. When you glide you are killing off lots of the momentum. Thats my thoughts anyway and these methods have allowed me to get almost 10 min flights with other edf models.

Nice plane, still think I want the freewing f15 but not so sure now. Nice job guys.

Mike Kennedy both are great jets. The 18 has a larger flight envelope with good slow speed and blistering top speed. But the 15 w/ inrunner is very scale and flies wonderfully!

Great video guys, oh yeah. I love the F-18 its one sexy plane!.

I haven’t seen any ducted fan jets have smoke trails. Is it possible? If so, that would be killer on the Blue Angle

Hi Pilots. I have 2 planes from RC Motion. One L-39 its very fast and dont has this short field capabilities like this F-18. The other is a Avanti its ok but its a trainer. So I put an order for This F-18 like to have the best of the two other planes. I like to fly with much trottle management. Good video and sorry for my gramatical horrors. Best regarts and happy flying.

Okay so someone please explain this to me..... Why keep coming off the throttle when the plane goes into a dive? Is that suppose to like have preserve the better and have a longer flight? I mean i get it that you don't want to be FULL THROTTLE diving down but all the way off though??

They're flying in a very tight field, so Patrick (the pilot) isn't soaking up power in long, flat speed runs but rather showing off the F-18's short field capabilities in terms of maneuverability, acceleration, vertical power, and overall economy. If he kept power in during dives, yes he'd be faster, but he'd be in the trees before recovering. That field is known for being surrounded by trees.... it's basically a bowl.
Flying EDFs, especially in a taller pattern like this as opposed to the typical flatter "race track" circuit, is about energy management. Why burn mAh in a dive when gravity is already bringing you in... better to rest the battery for a bit and save it for the verticals. Good flying, all things considered. Keeps things close for the camera to see, too.

Flight Videos its only burning energy when you first build it up. After that you retain most of it. Seems more like a person that is used to flying pattern planes...

King RC yeah I agree... small field or not I dont fly mine that way...

gooniac33 we have guys who fly like you are suggesting at our field and my style outlasts their flight times at our field. Alphas description is spot on. Not only are we limited by trees but also by a neighborhood and a dog park, they are off limits to fly over. With the speed of these jets it’s either slow and tight circles or work the vertical and I love going vertical. Also I don’t like to land with anything less than around 3.75 volts per cell. You could stretch the times easily with more moderation in the throttle but limit the time below the tree line and consequently above creating s less fun flight. IMO. I’m a current Air Force pilot and there are certain aerobatics I’ve always enjoyed both in real aircraft and in models which tends to drive my flight profile.

Nice power management. Is this plane capable of any high alpha?
