Both are great albums, but Pure Heroine is a masterpiece. The simplistic sound, layered vocal delivery/composition, and subject matter is unmatched by any other body of work in modern music. Melodrama is a great album, but the themes of love and loss are something we see explored regularly in music,(Lorde did it to a higher standard but we've heard the story told before). The coming of age story told on pure heroine was a story that needed to be told, but for so many years went untouched in favour of club songs about sex money and fame. Pure heroine was about growing up without money, and the effects that the fantasies of extraordinary wealth and toxic escapism( that are constantly fed to young people in pop culture) can have on young peoples minds, ambitions and sense of self. And for that reason alone it's a record that stands in it's own hall of fame.
*Tea Truffel* But a true artist creates art for themselves as well as other people. E.g. how a painter likes to paint pictures and a performer likes to act. The fame that appears as a result of people taking interest reflects artistic sincerity, ingenuity and lacks pretentiousness. Lorde did not overplay her first album. If anything she underplayed it because it was extremely minimal and lowkey for a pop album in 2013. I’ll never be over Pure Heroine. I know all of his songs by heart: its was dark, tense and very authentic. Although, we felt more her personal struggles in Melodrama ( it was a post break up album). I wish some of the actual singers took notes on her artistic evolution and her songwriting. She really paved the way for neo pop alternative indie artists. Also i still dont get why people compare Lorde to Billie Eilish, i get that they re both young and songwriting but their universes are completely opposite.
I think they compare them bc in a lot of ways Billie probably wouldn’t be as popular w/o lorde. And I only mean that bc royals changed the way pop music sounds and while they still have different styles it’s on a similar enough plane that the two can be compared. Plus I think billies old music is more comparable to lorde than her newer album
i wouldn't say their universes are "completely opposite" to each other. Growth pains, fame, intoxication, youth, depression, loneliness are explored by both Lorde and Billie. Their styles of approach are different though.
Blue Underwood I don’t think Billie Eilish would be a mainstream artist today if not for Lorde. A lot of industry giants have praised Billie Eilish for changing the industry from songs meant to play to masses to songs meant to play for a singular person through their headphones, but Lorde was the one who truly spearheaded that change. Lorde was one of the first artists to write songs that are deeply introspective. I think it’s natural the two are compared since they’re both young, unexpected artists and while I do truly think Billie Eilish deserves all the fame and love she gets, it doesn’t stop me (and other people) from pointing out that Lorde was so ahead of her time that she continue to be severely underrated both in general and by the industry (we don’t talk about Melodrama losing to 24k Magic).
Does anyone remember when she did a cover of everybody wants to rule the world for the hunger games soundtrack or was that a fever dream? Edit: so according to the comments, the cover was used for Assassins Creed and some other stuff. Didn't know.

Thomas Williams being attached to a pet and having them around can impact a persons life. When they die it can affect that persons life, they could even become depressed. I love how her music growing together with her and her audience. As an early teen I could relate a lot with Pure Heroine, it really captured the imagery of teenage life so that it lingered in my mind and created a sense of nostalgia whenever I listen to it. Melodrama came out while I am living a young adult life and it told a series of how we are growing to love ourselves and love everything that happened to us, all the bads and the beauties, and it's ok to be emotional about it. Melodrama came out right at the time I started to accept who I really am.

Lorde is my all time favorite artist. I will wait 10 years for her 3rd album while happily replaying the first 2 over and over and over. She’s a genius and her songs never feel old or stale to me. Timeless!

Walid C. ig I remember it differently cause she would made fun of her weird dancing in her performance, made fun of her looks by comparing her to Beyoncé saying how much older she looks or comparing her to that dude that doesn't have a nose from Harry Potter etc Plus she didn't really get that much of welcoming and praise that Billie gets with her style(no hate to Billie tho) mean while Billie was more accepted I feel and I feel even her impacted made that kinda music very mainstream as compare to back then
@@mariavirginiamendoza7818 I was younger so didn't hear much hate for Lorde but if you haven't heard all the hate for Billie not sure why. They say she doesn't sing, doesn't write her own music, doesn't have a good voice, her style is bad, or that time she posted stuff where she was in a bathing suit. I think people just like to hate on young successful women.
Lorde said the best gift she can give to us is music that lasts, and honestly she has really achieved that consistently. I’ve listened to Melodrama and Pure Heroine too many times to count and they still hit each time.
I’d rather wait years fir good music than have to search through miles of mediocre. Lorde has always been a standout for me and I have thoroughly loved everything she does. I am of course sorry for her loss but I am interested to see how her next album shapes. Fifteen years ago I lost my best friend and I am only now realizing how much it has shaped my life. Lorde has helped me put thoughts and feelings into words and given me platforms to meditate and understand what I am feeling and why. Make us wait. Give us your best.
Lorde honestly has her own category of music and art. I relate to her music so much, and I would prefer her over most other artist because she is that good.

Really appreciate you taking her grieve over the loss of her dog seriously in this video and not framing her as melodramatic or fragile. Some people don't understand pets are literally members of your family 💗
i listen to lorde every day ... she's that artist that can trasport you to her feelings and emotions . she's just a genius Pure Heroine was amazing and impactful for pop music she's the one that changed it so now we have a lot of alternative kids that are killing it ...and thank you lorde for that ...MELODRAMA is an experience in every sense .... every song gives you something different and you can feel it ! If lorde takes seriously her job and then gives us masterpiece like these ... i can wait! We have been trained with fast food music right now that in a year we'll barely consider but Lorde music never goes out of style
i have a gut feeling that her next album will probably be released in 2021 or early 2022. hopefully she gives us more updates on her music because there was a interview where she said 2020 was very productive year for her.
When I first heard of her, it was the song royals. I wasn't a fan of her, but one day I decided to give her album a chance. I was able to relate and enjoy her music. I now understand the hype around her. It's very unique and raw.
She paved the way for artist that are up there now ever since her performance at the GRAMMYS it literally changed our whole extensions of music today. She's the indie queen of music.
I really think that the breaks Lorde takes feeds into her albums. The breaks let her shine as a person rather than a celebrity to truly allow her to feel and take in life as it should be; An average person which many will/can relate to and understand. Which is why her past albums have gotten her so much recognition. Instead of speaking of fame and fortune, she speaks from the heart. How she truly sees the music industry, life as a “celebrity” and such. Making her so unique the more you think about it. I truly see Lorde as being a musical genius who has paved a path in pop history and in a way wishes to continue and make sure she takes her time which is well respected and loved by her following community
Exactly. She said she was going to go straight into the studio after pure heroine but then Realised she had nothing to write about. She takes time to experience life and learn more about herself which is important.
pure heroine came out when i was about six, and melodrama when i was about ten, but i didn’t really get into lorde until recently. her music is *amazing*
I prefer Pure Heroine because of its raw delivery, relatable teenage issues and the sarcasm toward celebs as a middle class individual. Even thou Melodrama is amazing production wise and also great lyrically.
Pure Heroin changed the pop industry in the 2010s and Melodrama cemented her as a pop and pop adjacent icon. Both albums exposed the industry's lack of song writing skills, unique production, and personality, even today. And both albums continue to be some of the best bodies of work in the 2010s.
I absolutely LOVED Pure Heroine. It was the very first album I'd ever heard where I was obsessed with every single song on it. It helped me so much. The sound and lyrics were something I had never heard before and just overall one of my favorite albums of all time.
It’s nice that her record label is allowing her to take her time and make art rather than rushing her

here right after her new music was announced and she said it's gonna be so fucking good. i can't wait
a legend at 16.
she's my age, and I wanna be her when I grow up. 🥺
Lorde is my all time favorite artist. I will wait 10 years for her 3rd album while happily replaying the first 2 over and over and over. She’s a genius and her songs never feel old or stale to me. Timeless!
Lorde’s music truly opened my eyes to a new way of seeing the world-as art, in the colors and sounds present. She is my favorite artist of all time, and the only album that has the possibility of topping Melodrama for me will be her next album.
Yesss I was just listening to both albums yesterday. Her influence is undeniable! Her third album will be incredible and needs to come out ASAP.
There's a recent NZ interview with her. She's working on music but can't disclose the details. She seems at a really good place.
everyday without new lorde music is pure pain
Love your content! I really fell in love with future nostalgia thanks to you because I usually wouldn’t listen to dua lipa. Thanks!!
Edit :
I might give lourde a relisten now thanks to this video, because I was wayyy to young to appreciate her music when it was first released. Thanks again lol
Unpopular opinion : Pure Heroine is waaaay deeper and better than Melodrama (I love both)
bro it's not that unpopular of an opinion :)
Deos anyone eles feel like Billie Ellishe got all the attention that Lorde desverse. Lorde was ahead of everybody time making her angsty music popular with that slow beat that is so popular now and Billie got prasied for being young and beautiful , and Lorde was seem as a freak and made fun of idk for her depressing lyrics and she was made fun of by her looks
Walid C. ig I remember it differently cause she would made fun of her weird dancing in her performance, made fun of her looks by comparing her to Beyoncé saying how much older she looks or comparing her to that dude that doesn't have a nose from Harry Potter etc Plus she didn't really get that much of welcoming and praise that Billie gets with her style(no hate to Billie tho) mean while Billie was more accepted I feel and I feel even her impacted made that kinda music very mainstream as compare to back then
@@mariavirginiamendoza7818 I was younger so didn't hear much hate for Lorde but if you haven't heard all the hate for Billie not sure why. They say she doesn't sing, doesn't write her own music, doesn't have a good voice, her style is bad, or that time she posted stuff where she was in a bathing suit. I think people just like to hate on young successful women.
always gotta hate on billie for no reason whatsoever wth
Tf?! Billie gets hated literally ALL THE TIME!
I randomly remembered about lorde earlier this week and have been listening to her all week 🥺 she’s such an icon
Melodrama is its own primary color; nothing else is like it.
Fan since the beginning, pure art and glad she takes her time because when it does come out it’s beautiful.
rip pearl, real fans can wait and appreciate an album no matter how long it takes to drop
Both her albums are myfavourite. and we really missed to Ella LORDE we want her back. 💔
Pure Heroine will always have a specific place in my heart that no artist can replace, I said what I said, lorde has the mind of a mastermind
Lorde honestly has her own category of music and art. I relate to her music so much, and I would prefer her over most other artist because she is that good.
I'm a guy and found her as a annoying teenager artist but once I heard melodrama, on accident, I was WOWED! Such an amazing album and sounds so good especially with headphones. One of my favorites now and that's crazy lol
A true poet from a lot of peoples childhood 🙌🏼🙌🏼
you better believe even if Lorde dropped her next album in 20 years, middle-aged me would be the first to listen to it.
Lorde is 9 days older than me. I'll need the rest of my life to let that sink in.
i have a gut feeling that her next album will probably be released in 2021 or early 2022. hopefully she gives us more updates on her music because there was a interview where she said 2020 was very productive year for her.
Even the way she releases statement is lyrical
I LOVE LORDE SO MUCH AAA i can never get tired of her music 😭❤️❤️❤️
When I first heard of her, it was the song royals. I wasn't a fan of her, but one day I decided to give her album a chance. I was able to relate and enjoy her music. I now understand the hype around her. It's very unique and raw.
melodrama was one of the best albums i’ve ever heard. period.
period.
PERIODT
Who else thought this guy was going to drag because of the title?
pure heroine came out when i was about six, and melodrama when i was about ten, but i didn’t really get into lorde until recently. her music is *amazing*
You were too young to understand the music
Give it a listen when you’re in your 20s. Especially Melodrama it will hit different
I prefer Pure Heroine because of its raw delivery, relatable teenage issues and the sarcasm toward celebs as a middle class individual. Even thou Melodrama is amazing production wise and also great lyrically.
This channel made me aware of the masterpiece that is melodrama. That was the best thing to ever happen to me. definitely my favourite album.
Chile, you be keeping us entertained and spoiling us
Her albums have seriously been the only thing keeping me sane in quarantine
I think Lorde is a better artist than Billie Eillish.
FRISHR they’re both such different artists.
FRISHR me too
I agree with the others. They produce different music. Both artists may sound angsty but their sound and interpretation is very different.
FRISHR as u should
@Kelli L don't compare our favourite feminist to Lorde - never
I can't wait for her new album. Just thinking about it makes me shiver in anticipation.
BEFORE I START THIS VIDEO PURE HEROINE IS STILL THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME
Melodrama outsold
adamd664 I strongly agree
say that AGAIN
Love her endlessly, seeing her live was such a dream 💛 love that she takes her time with her art and doing a hiatus
she was way ahead of her time. people weren't ready for her dark essence. she also paved the way for people like cher loyd with the tone in voice.
Pure Heroin changed the pop industry in the 2010s and Melodrama cemented her as a pop and pop adjacent icon. Both albums exposed the industry's lack of song writing skills, unique production, and personality, even today. And both albums continue to be some of the best bodies of work in the 2010s.
Topic idea: The Fame Monster. And how it seamlessly transitioned Gaga’s sound from The Fame Era to the Born This Way Era 💁🏽♀️
Losing a pet dog is one of the worst feelings of loss to go through, I still miss my dog Lola every day
Team is my favorite “hype me up” song
One of the songs i love from her is love club, idk how to explain it but it makes me feel like crying and then watching the sun come thru
I like lorde. She takes time with her music.
I absolutely LOVED Pure Heroine. It was the very first album I'd ever heard where I was obsessed with every single song on it. It helped me so much. The sound and lyrics were something I had never heard before and just overall one of my favorite albums of all time.
Thanks lorde for actually creating a body of work and not just releasing singles that burn out weeks after the release.
