    This the kind of content I really get into, thorough, no fill and experience based. That being said, this comment also applies to Steve Sherk's study that was long format but also factual experience based.
    Keep it coming! Thank you!

    I like the content but lots of these scenarios I don’t know how you hunt a deer in a bowl where he has so many wind and thermal advantages. I know when I scout these bedding areas in southern MO almost ARK I don’t find specific beds often because the wind changes so often I think they are moving to different sides and points often.. I find the sign but with the swirling winds and thermals it’s really hard to figure out a set where you ever even see the deer. When I walk these bedding areas scouting I never even get close enough to know I bumped a buck even though I know there are there due to rub lines and scrapes.. I get stumped on how to set up on these deer.. Rut funnels work but actually hunting the bed before they start cruising just seems impossible. I think that’s why eberhearts hardcore scent regime and scentlok sounds so good because it’s just discouraging to never have a wind that works..

    Deer go where the pressure puts them..everyone hunting the upper 1/3 pushes them down..etc

    10 day till opening day here in NC..I have a spot picked out in one of those bowls ..but here it's normally hot as hell the first few weeks and almost no wind so I'm counting on the thermals to pull my sent up in the morning..

I am gonna hunt some of the gamelands again this year. I hunted pond mountain last year them mountain and elevation about killed me lol.

    Thank you for the showing what you have learned yourself. I'm still learning, but I live in zone 2 in Massachusetts and I was just out walking and looking for signs after the season was over . Been in this area for 5 years now and it great deer country out here just need to learn how to really learn how topo works kind of a slow learner but I do learn 😆. I have a spot where I get a buck every year on and after, November 2 through the 10th then nothing but I get a good one just got luck on that spot I think. This is the buck I got on 11/8/23 really nice big 8 dressed out at 203lbs he weighed 275lbs before dressed. Sorry about the punctuation I hope you get the picture of the buck

    Nice overview of what to look for in mature buck bedding, especially that bowl 🥣 deal. From what I have heard and even saw, they will bed in thick cover overlooking roads even main ones like highways 🛣.
    I can’t wait to get out in both West Virginia and PA this year and I plan on getting my Ohio license in the spring for turkey 🦃 season then into deer 🦌 season. Best value doing it that way.

    What is a good source to determine predominate wind direction?

    • @nate_stanton
      @nate_stanton ปีที่แล้ว

      Wunderground will provide historical weather data for your chosen area. That should help you with typical wind direction for your hunting location.

  • @Hopeknives13

    So question you talk about the bowls and having your scent drop all morning in that situation you’d hunt the very bottom of the bowl? So scent is more stable or ? Because sun up your scents rising but only where it’s shining. The particular spot I have is a older clear cut with poples trees. Beds are from bottom to the top on south side of ridge.

    • @chadsyl23
      @chadsyl23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct, at some point your scent will rise but knowing where the dropping thermals and wind are taking your scent to the point it rises is key. IMO they only way to know is get in there and wind map it. In the example I mentioned the bowl faced the west and I was hunting the northern slope. The bottoms and slopes were very steep so my thermals would suck out over that bottom and then rise up the eastern face slope of the ridge across the bottom.
      Hope all that makes sense
      If bedding is bottom to top, I would look for a key terrain feature like a drainage or bench close to bedding that optimizes your odds.

    What are you using to determine prevailing winds?

    • @micahdunleavy9227
      @micahdunleavy9227 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can google it, problem is here there isn’t a hugely prevailing wind direction. Maybe 3-4 percent different in the fall between north and south then even east and west are only slightly below that. So it seems like the deer are constantly moving bedding due to wind and well worn beds just aren’t even a thing I’ve found in months and countless hours of scouting. They will be on the points but a different one everyday and the winds are rarely even going a forecasted direction due to topography or whatever reason. Hill country is the most frustrating country to hunt… They have every advantage..
