@@Nikolai-l1i not in the US. Saw them in a couple of mid sized not fully sold out venues between 84-91 in Boston. Like having a fantastic stadium band all to yourself. U2 would sell out 3 arena shows here instantly by comparison
Back in the 80s they were huge, saw them at a sold out old Wembley stadium. For me the biggest band back then was Queen, I was lucky enough to see them at Kenworth in front of 120,000.
I agree it's a great live version, but I do also think the live versions on the "Live in the city of light" album, the "Verona" video and various other live performances are just as great. I'ts a song that works brilliantly live.
Great memories of Waterfront on our PA system after we closed the supermarket each night. Turn up the Bass and Volume and blasting it out, sublime!!. But this live version from 1985 is the best." A song of roots and heritage and its called....." brilliance!!!
Thumping good tunes from a band I didn't appreciate at 15, but as time goes on I can see how good they actually are, especially at the age of 43 years old.1/11/2013.Irish time 14:00.Friday.
I was about 46 on that date. Still remember my roommate introducing me to this band at Western University in London, Ont, Canada around 1986. But totally agree, awesome band as you look back.
Wow! I remember when this was shown on Granada TV late one night in 86. I was dead excited because I was going to see them in concert for the frst of many times only a few days later at Milton Keynes Bowl.
after watching this Simple Minds' concert, everyone may well realize to what extent the modern "music" has regressed! Can someone remember the name of just a few screaming or hip-hopping donkeys of today? No one? Well ... me too!
Agreed. I can't stand that stupid little twat Beiber either. And Simple Minds and bands/artists from yesterday wouldn't spit from a balcony onto their fans below.
sound like U2 cause the producer of sparkle in the rain Steve Lillywhite is u2 's producer of war,and many another u2 albums!anyway j love both bands(j saw 15simple minds gigs and 12 u2 gigs) but j love u2 BECAUSE of Simple Minds..and simple minds are better musicians than u2!
U2 is bigger! There's, unfortunately, nothing left from the SM....I saw them years later after 1985, in Amsterdam.....I went home earlier, while the concert keeps going! It was very bad....and U2 still keeps going strong!
I was there. Great concert

The best opening to a concert ever? Arguably yes. Brilliant.

Jim's got a Blackadder vibe going here...
All I can say is: how far we have regressed with music. From Simple Minds to Justin Beider in 25 years? Really?? I feel sick.
We had our pop abominations back in the 80s too but I hear ya... ugh.
Agreed. I can't stand that stupid little twat Beiber either. And Simple Minds and bands/artists from yesterday wouldn't spit from a balcony onto their fans below.
What can i say...mick mcneil simply rhe best ❤

INCREDIBLY TALENTED BAND.

Dodgy fashion aside, this era was Simple Minds at their live peak.

Hi, I'm for it too, sounds like a good idea.
Love SM, they're absolutely great
2:14 Charlie missing the chord. Oops!!
This song must be really tiring to play for the bassist. He does not miss a beat by the way.
Isn't the bass rhythm by a synth, or programmed? Something like that.

The other way round
Definitely the other way round 👍
@@Round_07 Love how Jim says he loves Rotterdam; you got one of our own at Rangers now. And you beat Dortmund.
