There is no need for greater safety. There is a need for less stupidity.

There are all kinds of warnings printed on fireworks. These people need to stop playing the victim card.
Fireworks aren’t new. I’ve seen these same accidents and same warnings for the last 50 years. If people don’t get it by now, I don’t have much hope.
It should be no surprise because they still don't get it about leaving babies and animals in hot cars.

@@lemonsqweezy9532 In the packaging that they came in, sealed away from the driver or whoever is doing the transporting. They are not to be handled except as recommended by the packaging. They are not to be removed from the packaging until everything is prepped and ready for them. They are to be handled as little as possible. People are to keep back from them. They are to be kept away from heat sources except when being lit. The person lighting them should do so as far back as possible and be ready to vacate the area immediately. Fire extinguishers should be on hand. A First Aid kit should be on hand. Phones should be on hand to call for emergency assistance. Also, only one firework at a time should be lit.

Just because a person's body looks like they're an adult, doesn't mean that their brain has matured to an equivalent adulthood stage. Too many people (mostly males) are just large children with the brains and maturity to match. I wouldn't trust my own husband with explosives because he has never reached the stage of adulthood either - and he is in his 50's. He is not dead yet despite all of his ill-advised attempts because I've managed to keep him alive thus far.

I spoke with his sister after it happened, he was posing for a selfie with the lit fire work next to his face. She said they were trying to get a shot where the sparks from the lit fuse would reflect off his eyes, but kept having to put out the fuse and light it up again because they couldn't get it right. Eventually, it went off.

FYI, this wasnt the fireworks on the head guy. This guy died from one going off near his chest. That being said, the were holding them and lighting them instead of using launchers. They mishandled them.

As a retired fire Captain/ E.M.T/ fire investigator; don't blame the fireworks for his ignorance & negligence! I'm sorry for their loss, but as adults, we need to be responsible and intelligent when we are handling fireworks firearms & other hazardous/ dangerous materials! Prayers for the family!
This is not the same guy as the one that put it on top of his head. From the website, it sounds like they were holding fireworks, lighting them, and then shooting them towards the fields. One of them exploded in Matt's hand. We all know better, but some people don't think it will happen to them until it does. It just takes one. RIP and condolences to both families for losing someone in such a sudden way.

One hates to think there are so many stupid people out there. One South Carolina man died after putting the fireworks on his head. (Stupid things not to do, Alex, for $500). This is another fellow from Blount County, Tennessee setting off fireworks that he is holding. (Other stupid things not to do, Alex, for $500.) I don't know the first thing about fireworks, but I suspect there's warnings on the Fireworks to be careful or some such thing.

Poor guy, this is so sad. He really looks like he was a nice guy. I really feel for his family, especially since they saw his traumatic injuries and saw his life leave him right in front of their eyes. My condolences to his family. Please be careful with any potentially dangerous item folks. All it takes is one moment of bad judgement.

What a horrible situation.Yes please never hold fireworks near your body.
You’re always supposed to set the firework on the ground, light the fuse, and quickly get about 12-15 feet away from the firework. If you follow these steps, even if the firework does explode, you’re far enough away it wouldn’t hurt you.

No way this was an accident.
A few 4th of July's ago a guy had an M80 and lit it. It didn't explode so he went over to look and he picked it up to look closer and it exploded in his hand and it blew off his hand and did other damage. He lived. He exercised no common sense. If it didn't explode what is the point of picking it up to look at it because either it may explode in your hand or it is a dud. I don't know what the man in the story in the video did to get killed because they don't go into specifics but must have been an explosive not a legal firework that you buy at a firework stand. Where I live explosive fireworks are illegal but people still get them. Where the man in the story is from are they legal or illegal?
My take. There is already safety. Leave the fireworks up to the experts. Go to a park where they have staged the fireworks. It's much safer than your home.
