I feel like gun psyker is one of the most difficult build to master, but gives you tools to deal against everything. Horde ? Assail. Ogryns and mutants ? Deimos. Elites ? Guns and assail after scrier's gaze, and distant targets doesn't pose a threat anymore. You're still a glass canon, but with good management with the sword, through dodge and deflect, nothing can really pose a threat. Perhaps monstruosities can be more challenging, but again : max out your scrier gaze, and wreck them down. Good build !
Monstrosities are probably the biggest threat to the Gun Psyker but you have to aim at their weaknesses and more importantly you have to work with your team. Every build has a weakness in one shape or another. For instance the Surge and Voidstrike staff do some damage to monstrosities but they'll never be hardcore killers like veterans with Krak Grenades or Ogryns using their mini nukes lol. There are always trade offs for everything. In general the Gun Psyker turns Assail into a very powerful assault tool (more so than other builds) and enables you to safely use your Gun for situations that would otherwise result in a need to quell, so you can attack for a longer time period. That said, it lacks the freedom of a staff build that is not reliant on ammo and allows for heavy spamming
I’d argue that if you’re using Assail then the Disrupt Destiny-Scrier’s Gaze combo puts you in a good position to quickly switch focus to a Monstrosity & dish out some gnarly DMG with that +37.5% WS-DMG +30% Crit-DMG +20% Crit-Chance & (usually) +40% All-DMG. Overall I’ve been having a blast cleaning out Hordes, Specials & Elites with relative impunity. But Monstrosities are a bit trickier if you don’t have the mobility on weapons & talents to avoid their attacks. So that’s the reason I chose to use both ‘Warp Speed’ & ‘Mettle’ for the +35% Move Speed to get a good LOS on their Weakspot & pass Agro to a team mate lol. (Sorry bro, if I die we definitely wipe 🤷🏽♂️)
I Swap out ‘Empathic Evasion’ & ‘Endurance’ to do so as most shooters get torn up by Assail & on a Glass Cannon I’d want to avoid DMG with positioning. That Said my Curios are 3X +20% HP +5%HP +5% Toughness and variety of DMG reductions optimally the third would be +20% Sniper DMG reduction because the do like 200 DMG & if you’re swarmed & can’t get to them that’s bad times.

Your heavy strike with that sword disrupts the enemy it hits. It can be important to land those on big targets, often on ragers to stop them in their tracks. Getting used to the camera lock and animation lock while other enemies are around is a learned skill.
Man I was having bit of trouble on my gun psyker build not knowing it’s almost the exact same build as yours with a few tweaks here and there. Love this build btw. It’s so fun and powerful.
Imo chain sword is better and fully automatic gun with brain burst . Chain sword special can multiple hit to proc brain burst. And with dome shield and charges to keep protecting your team against distance and no need to deal with quelling. Now I am not an expert but if you avoid wasting ammo on hordes then it deals really well with harder enemies. And it more about multiple hits melee or gun to proc brain burst than the actual gun damage itself. Magazine size is really important tho and learn to manage it.
Brainburst / Gaze with chainsword "Brainsword" if you will. Is for sure better at the primary goals of the build. But assail is a much better "I hate my team" option since it's so good at dealing with hordes and other weird situations like bad ammo management etc. Its just more forgiving. In general brainburst kinda reminds me of unchained in vermintide. It takes the class that clears hordes and makes it mediocre at doing that in favor of being an absolute monster at killing groups of elites and bosses. It's a specialist option that's extremely good at its job. But it's only answer to some of the most common situations in the game is "anything works as long as you're good" It's completely viable but if your searching for "best builds" I think generalist tends to be somewhat implied
Well, the thing is, Assail is already being changed in the next patch. So probably I'll talk about it as part of the Psyker changes. Even if I did make a vid explaining why it's not OP. The ones who think it's OP (Malice players usually) won't even know about the video. They're the ones mostly crying about it tbh, but they don't realise enemies scale up in the difficulty levels.
So based off time and changes. I'd love to see you do a com axe, smite, bolt pistol. Ive managed 2 matches auric 5 maelstrom without going down. Now mind you i had a team who really communicated and worked together. With the right combo or solo player you can be very effect in a character who rotates all 3 character damage types
I've had some pretty good games on Gun Psyker running a Combat Axe with the Vraks Headhunter VII / Agripiina Autogun VII. Vraks is the better of the two for ammo efficiency and distance, where Agripiina is fantastic for quickly killing many enemies in high stress situations. Combat Axe definitely isnt optimal since it's so slow and still struggles hard against groups of carapace enemies/crushers, but it's a pretty decent weapon for when you get forced into melee with things like ragers, mutants and shotgunners, which happens a damn lot. Nice guide, though. Haven't really tried a force sword for Gun Psyker yet since I prefer to spend lest time building and quelling peril and more time just chopping and shooting.
Just an FYI, force sword was used before because it had unlimited dodges. Now everyone uses the Dueling sword instead for the insane mobility and the mutie one shots on the head :). But yeah, use whatever weapons you're comfortable with, so long as you feel like you can do your job. Gun Psyker is very rare and a tad unpopular in Aurics though, because they are usually a burden kek
Another version of this utilizes the brain burst to add additional damage to your guns since it has a node that allows a brain burst to be auto-cast on weapon hit. The problem with it is it's 10% trigger chance. Which I feel like should be reworked to depend on weapon type (slower RoF guns trigger gets boosted to 20% and the higher the RoF, the lower the chance so this normalizes proc frequency).
I'm doing this with Infantry Mk V Autogun. The high rate of fire and large clip chew threw everything. It struggles a with carapace and takes a clip and half to drop a crusher --- Other than that limitation is a great option.
@@GarrickEnright I'd like to use a gun like that as it allows for a faster proc on the brainburst once it becomes alive and I used to use Recon Lasgun for that reason. The reason I use the burst gun for now is because it's ammo economy is more self-sustaining and reliant while sitll having a semi-decent RoF. In higher difficulties you get so many enemies that without a dedicated Veteran you will have to sometiems consider the ammo economy of your team composition.
Having Deimos sword and recon las gun running assail is nice. You can knock down many enemies with block/push/force push. The las gun is a great hipfire spray weapon for when psykers get overwhelmed and another solid ranged option. Assail is busted as we all know and will probs be nerfed, but it’s fun being powerful. Running two health curios right now too

@MercutioUK2006 to be honest other guns are viable, but I was going for optimization. The truth is that the following guns were tested: - Recon Lasgun (with Infernus) - Shredder Autopistol - Laspistol Everything other than the Laspistol was considered viable, but the Vraks Headhunter Autogun came out sliiiiightly on top due to its incredible hip fire accuracy, killing power and ammo efficiency. The other guns had minor weaknesses (e.g. the Recon Lasgun had a tendency to make you compete for ammo because of its poorer ammo efficiency (it was more powerful to be fair). So unless you are lucky to get a veteran on your team, you might end up hindering runs rather than helping them!
I've been running this style (newer to this game) but I've used both shriek and the dome but not seekers gaze yet. Seems like yours has more damage to multiple targets. I have also been running the middle purple tree and trying to get those free asail throws. Is disrupt destiny a better choice?
If you're playing a gun psyker, then what I am showing is the optimal way to play. If you're aiming for the highest level content, this path is the best way to go. If you're still around malice/Heresy level because you're newer, you can run anything and still be fairly decent. My advice would be to try my build for a few runs and compare it to your own. It is indeed damage loaded, but that's because enemies in Damnation are generally hard to kill without a crap ton of buffs 🤣🤣
@@RealAsianRobot ok thanks for your help and input. I'm trying out your build tonight. Doing Malice level as normal for me. Uprising and Sedition are pretty easy and usually try out builds and challenges on those levels. Level Hersey is challenging and I think I have only tried Damnation once and the team got wiped in probably the first 10 minutes.
Mk IV dueling sword is the current choice. This was in Patch 13, but Assail is still the best choice for Blitz. No matter what you will always have issued with armored targets. That's why Gun Psyker is generally considered less useful than a Staff Psyker.
@@RealAsianRobot stub revolver could resolve heavy armor enemies. Or stuck with brainburst version that activates on weapon attack. Other then that l, good mkIV dueling sword could dispatch heavy armor with ease. Overall, assail will generate way too much peril with this build.
What do you think about revolver and duelling sword? I've been running them to good effect on my gun psyker build, it even has good monstrosity damage if I'm landing mark 4 duelling sword headshots.
I'd say, to each their own. Revolver is disgustingly ammo inefficient without a Veteran to restore ammo, that's my only issue with it. When you play with randoms, you cannot assume you will get any drops. Dueling sword is aight, but I prefer a chainsword if using a non-warp weapon. It also depends on what difficulty you're primarily tackling. So what difficulty are you normally playing?
Damnation and Heresy normally, though I have managed to finish an Auric Damnation with it once, I'm still fairly new though, just started playing on Xbox drop.@@RealAsianRobot
Had a random psyker in a heresy or damnation run that used an autogun (not sure which one) and a sword (unsure which) and wasn't using any visible psyker abilities apart from something generating soulblaze (my guess is he was running BB with the jump targets). He outperformed the ogryn, myself (zealot) and another zealot; ever since this I've been trying to figure out what his build was since it was crazy cool to see a psyker not using staff or any active abilities and just gunning and slashing with the benefits of passive abilities any idea what he might've been running talent wise?
Potentially a melee psyker build with blazing spirit on crits. This is pretty possible outside of Aurics and it looks cool. The only trouble is it's harder to run in Auric, but fun IF you can get it to work. I generally don't favor that style unfortunately since for me the Psyker is all about control right now and it's pretty essential to the smooth runs haha
It sounds like it would be a fun challenge, do you think if I modified your build to have the passive 10% chance to brain burst, as well as blazing spirit, but stayed on track with the rest of your recommended talents/passives; it would be feasible? Thanks again for the helpful tips too btw

I run something very similar, I would be willing to bet he was running the Brain burst chance on hit, scriers gaze, disrupt destiny build. You pick up the perks that spread flames on elite kill and on killing enemy already affected by soul blaze. The Columnus autorifle is an absolute monster. You pop scriers gaze and start picking off elites which spreads all the soul blaze helping tick down big hords to all one tap. Since the rifle fires so fast its guaranteed to brainburst once its off cooldown. In my games you can melt most anything in 10 rounds, carapace is a weakness but you can use normal brainburst on them. Grab a force sword with blaze and deflector and you can handle most anything that comes your way. It feels like playing a better version of vet. As far as ammo, as long as I don't clear hords with my gun and only use it on elites I have no problems. Especially when a vet is in the party and can regen some ammo from their passive.
I just hit level 30 on psyker, is there a build you would recommend for still being new to the game? Ive been seeing your guides and have learned a lot but im not sure what would be a good base build that isnt too complicated just yet
My advice is to pick any of the builds you like on the channel. As a starter. Even with Grey weapons they will work on Heresy. Get materials and then upgrade them to gold. The Surge/Voidstrike is usually the easiest for newbies to master, but some also like the Gun Psyker. All of them rely on Assail which is very strong for now. Once you've got good gear just keep farming damnation for blessings and even more gear.
This gave me some ideas to try it out with a Kantreal mk12 with stacked crit damage and it absolutely slaps. Swapped assail for smite to at least be able to cc armor since its a hole in the build, but being able to outdps vets with 1.5k crit headshots is hilarious
Smite is okay, but you'll instead struggle with Horde Clear without Assail, so do be careful. Because even if you CC armor, someone else has to kill it, unless you CC and kill it yourself. I found my team getting quickly overwhelmed in Auric Damnation without Assail unfortunately so I often use it to keep everyone alive haha.
I run a similar build, but use the autopistol, and I use brainburst instrad of assail. I know assail is more optimal, but brainbursting people with the autopistol is too funny.
@@murdershyz4419 it does feel a bit like a meme build. I can run heresy with it no problem, but you do have to be weary of ammo consumption and your sword is often your best bet against chaff hordes.

@murdershyz4419 you can run meme builds up to Heresy for sure. But try to avoid it in Damnation. Although most people in Damnation are chill, from the point of view of 'honour', it does feel pretty bad when someone takes a meme build into your game when everyone else may be doing their best to win. Also many damnation players are skilled but may only have 1 to 2 hours playtime on a weekday (this translates to 3 to 4 matches roughly). So I would avoid costing someone else's time since I would feel really bad about it. I mean, I'm a streamer who plays games 7 hours a day for a living, so my time isn't that precious but for others it might be. So just consider that 😁👍. That being said, feel free to play more lore accurate builds in malice or Heresy where there is almost no threat of losing the match. It can be fun to roleplay in those difficulties
I'm very disappointed there isn't any REAL Gun Psyker build... the 3rd tree has a picture of a psyker with a gun but there's really very little reason to use it. There's ONE perk that kind of effects it where non warp attacks boost warp attacks but... your sword triggers it just as well and if you use a gun you don't have a high damaging warp attack to boost! Assail being boosted is nice but hardly amazing or worth diving into melee or plugging away with a gun to boost.
That is true enough and I kind of understand that people are disappointed that there is no true version of the Gun Psyker. However, I think they tried to balance it for Auric Difficulty which is where the problem starts. The Gun Psyker basically competes for ammo so you have to limit your Gun use anyway since there are very limited ammo spawns AND you are competing with the Veteran who has bad ammo efficiency after the update. So yeaaaaah, the Gun Psyker is really behind this patch. It's what I'm seeing after playing the Veteran. Ammo just isn't enough to even play a pure Gun psyker honestly 🙃🙃

I appreciate how much you get into the details and explain mechanics behind everything. I'm a build crafter too and mechanics of perks and such are half the battle. I WAS wondering something about Wildfire, if you know. It says that enemies that are lit on fire this way cant gain more stacks. Does that mean that if a tanky enemy gets wildfire on them, I have to wait until thos dot stacks go away before i can even do anything to them with my flame staff?
Hi there. To explain wildfire better. How it works is, if a creature dies with say 10 stacks of soulflame. It will spread those stacks around it. However they can absolutely gain more stacks from OTHER SOURCES (I.e. your Purg Staff). You can test this by having the wildfire talent on and lighting some dudes on fire and after it spreads (when they die). Light them on fire in the meatgrinder with the staff. The stacks should go up 😁👍

For this? No, because the Gun Psyker lacks horde clear without spamming ammo. Especially in Auric Damnation. Outside of Auric Damnation, you can try to go smite style
I just want some more staves for the Psyker to be added. I'd love one with a full auto version of the primary fire bolt that's on most of the staves or something with like a continuous laser beam.
Sounds like you wanna roleplay Symmetra with that second one. I wouldn't mind that though. A beam staff that I can fire that gets bigger and longer would be grand 🤣🤣.
So why is it so goddamn difficult to find a gun psyker that isn't a complete waste of space on the team? Never been on Auric with a gun psyker that didn't just die immediately and ragequit, are you the only one that's actually capable of you know, not sucking chunks of poxburster?
Because quite frankly the lack of armor killing is so ridiculously important in Auric that any gun psyker you see is probably not even experienced 🤣🤣🤣. It used to be popular when we could burn everything and have unlimited force sword dodges. Now we have to use dueling sword but even then the gun psykers get shafted. No vet to replenish ammo? You're also a large ammo burden on your team. Soooooo, yeah, it's bad. Gun psyker is very much something that people play in teams now with specific arrangements. With randoms you're basically half a psyker and you can't do shit lol.
The way to use it this patch would be use the columnus mk5 auto gun with the mk IV dueling sword and put most points into the right side of the tree. Use it like this and it’s still very viable.
@overseer1018 the proc for brain Rupture is on a 15 second cooldown. You cannot proc it more than that. So literally anything will make it proc every 15 seconds. Hence why it's considered a poorer choice for Auric and higher levels. You get hit by so much so quickly that 15 seconds is enough time to fight off 10 specialists and elites. So it gets dicey 🤣🤣 If you're doing anything below that, you're mostly all good.
@overseer1018 It's definitely helpful, but again, there are much better choices for Auric runs and that is why Assail is used instead. It performs much better and though it is less useful against monstrosities, it offers much more team safety. So just be sure to keep this in mind! that said, as long as you are safely clearing the missions you intend to clear, use whatever makes you feel most comfortable. If you like the extra brain Rupture. Go for it 😁✌️
I found the brainburst augment with the skill that gives a chance to randomly trigger on hit handy. You still have an option to deal with big things, and with a high rate of fire gun, (recon lasgun, auto gun, auto pistol? Idk) it goes off at a decent rate. I think Scryers gaze makes sense when you're going to not do anything that generates warp, so you can just let it max out safely on its own. Assail I do honestly think is a bit overtuned, and may be changed or nerfed. Plus I find it a bit boring with how much it's used atm. I feel dumb for not trying out that you can just quell while SG is running though Ultimately though, I'm still playing at low levels, so I would not be surprised if it falls apart very hard, very quickly. But I've always had a fondness for unintended builds like this
@@michaelkolano8686 It falls apart once you hit heresy/damnation haha. That's why it's not used in optimized loadouts like mine (which are geared for Auric Damnation). That said, if you're having fun with it, go for it. Just take note that once you reach higher difficulty levels, you will be very strapped for ammo, that's why the gun is just a supplement ;)
@@RealAsianRobotI'm not surprised in the slightest. I'm really just messing around, as my psyker isn't even at max level, and I'm just using passable blue rarity equipment. I have a good grind ahead of me just trying to collect blessings for staves and such. (So much plasteel!!!) And I'm in no way calling it the best thing out there, as even a basic voidstrike staff felt good, and assail is just easy mode
@@michaelkolano8686 Assail is definitely easy mode right now. They will probably nerf the cooldown on it to be fair. It's waaaay too short for what it can do.
It's a good sword, but I feel that it is a bit lacking in terms of armor penetration and your sword is your crusher killer for this build. So that's why the Deimos is the choice for this one. It is a fantastic weapon, but using it would likely cause you to have an additional weakness.
Tested on Phone, Tablet and PC. There are no volume issues. You might want to check your speakers or your sound output settings. No video is made without volume being tested

This set has aged like milk, also wouldn't soul stealer be a must. Assail spam isn't as op as it was anymore, and the choice of ranged weapon is rather....questionable?
This was 2 patches ago mate. That's how much the game has changed. Gun Psyker has been heavily hit by all the changes. It's why you have to update builds every patch with Darktide

Even a single patch can alter builds drastically. If you feel you have something better for the current game. Go for it. Just make sure you have an 80% win rate in Auric Damnation when testing

You're still a glass canon, but with good management with the sword, through dodge and deflect, nothing can really pose a threat. Perhaps monstruosities can be more challenging, but again : max out your scrier gaze, and wreck them down.

Monstrosities are probably the biggest threat to the Gun Psyker but you have to aim at their weaknesses and more importantly you have to work with your team.
Every build has a weakness in one shape or another.
For instance the Surge and Voidstrike staff do some damage to monstrosities but they'll never be hardcore killers like veterans with Krak Grenades or Ogryns using their mini nukes lol.
There are always trade offs for everything. In general the Gun Psyker turns Assail into a very powerful assault tool (more so than other builds) and enables you to safely use your Gun for situations that would otherwise result in a need to quell, so you can attack for a longer time period.
That said, it lacks the freedom of a staff build that is not reliant on ammo and allows for heavy spamming
I’d argue that if you’re using Assail then the Disrupt Destiny-Scrier’s Gaze combo puts you in a good position to quickly switch focus to a Monstrosity & dish out some gnarly DMG with that +37.5% WS-DMG +30% Crit-DMG +20% Crit-Chance & (usually) +40% All-DMG. Overall I’ve been having a blast cleaning out Hordes, Specials & Elites with relative impunity. But Monstrosities are a bit trickier if you don’t have the mobility on weapons & talents to avoid their attacks.
So that’s the reason I chose to use both ‘Warp Speed’ & ‘Mettle’ for the +35% Move Speed to get a good LOS on their Weakspot & pass Agro to a team mate lol.

I Swap out ‘Empathic Evasion’ & ‘Endurance’ to do so as most shooters get torn up by Assail & on a Glass Cannon I’d want to avoid DMG with positioning.
That Said my Curios are 3X +20% HP +5%HP +5% Toughness and variety of DMG reductions optimally the third would be +20% Sniper DMG reduction because the do like 200 DMG & if you’re swarmed & can’t get to them that’s bad times.

Your heavy strike with that sword disrupts the enemy it hits. It can be important to land those on big targets, often on ragers to stop them in their tracks.
Getting used to the camera lock and animation lock while other enemies are around is a learned skill.
Very true :), but for Ragers, Assail is a better choice since it pierces them to bits. For mutants and the rest definitely lock them.
Man I was having bit of trouble on my gun psyker build not knowing it’s almost the exact same build as yours with a few tweaks here and there. Love this build btw. It’s so fun and powerful.

Imo chain sword is better and fully automatic gun with brain burst . Chain sword special can multiple hit to proc brain burst. And with dome shield and charges to keep protecting your team against distance and no need to deal with quelling. Now I am not an expert but if you avoid wasting ammo on hordes then it deals really well with harder enemies. And it more about multiple hits melee or gun to proc brain burst than the actual gun damage itself. Magazine size is really important tho and learn to manage it.
Brainburst / Gaze with chainsword "Brainsword" if you will. Is for sure better at the primary goals of the build.
But assail is a much better "I hate my team" option since it's so good at dealing with hordes and other weird situations like bad ammo management etc. Its just more forgiving.
In general brainburst kinda reminds me of unchained in vermintide. It takes the class that clears hordes and makes it mediocre at doing that in favor of being an absolute monster at killing groups of elites and bosses.
It's a specialist option that's extremely good at its job. But it's only answer to some of the most common situations in the game is "anything works as long as you're good"
It's completely viable but if your searching for "best builds" I think generalist tends to be somewhat implied

Well, the thing is, Assail is already being changed in the next patch. So probably I'll talk about it as part of the Psyker changes.
Even if I did make a vid explaining why it's not OP. The ones who think it's OP (Malice players usually) won't even know about the video. They're the ones mostly crying about it tbh, but they don't realise enemies scale up in the difficulty levels.
So based off time and changes. I'd love to see you do a com axe, smite, bolt pistol. Ive managed 2 matches auric 5 maelstrom without going down. Now mind you i had a team who really communicated and worked together. With the right combo or solo player you can be very effect in a character who rotates all 3 character damage types

I've had some pretty good games on Gun Psyker running a Combat Axe with the Vraks Headhunter VII / Agripiina Autogun VII. Vraks is the better of the two for ammo efficiency and distance, where Agripiina is fantastic for quickly killing many enemies in high stress situations. Combat Axe definitely isnt optimal since it's so slow and still struggles hard against groups of carapace enemies/crushers, but it's a pretty decent weapon for when you get forced into melee with things like ragers, mutants and shotgunners, which happens a damn lot. Nice guide, though. Haven't really tried a force sword for Gun Psyker yet since I prefer to spend lest time building and quelling peril and more time just chopping and shooting.
Just an FYI, force sword was used before because it had unlimited dodges. Now everyone uses the Dueling sword instead for the insane mobility and the mutie one shots on the head :).
But yeah, use whatever weapons you're comfortable with, so long as you feel like you can do your job. Gun Psyker is very rare and a tad unpopular in Aurics though, because they are usually a burden kek

Another version of this utilizes the brain burst to add additional damage to your guns since it has a node that allows a brain burst to be auto-cast on weapon hit. The problem with it is it's 10% trigger chance. Which I feel like should be reworked to depend on weapon type (slower RoF guns trigger gets boosted to 20% and the higher the RoF, the lower the chance so this normalizes proc frequency).
I'm doing this with Infantry Mk V Autogun. The high rate of fire and large clip chew threw everything. It struggles a with carapace and takes a clip and half to drop a crusher --- Other than that limitation is a great option.
@@GarrickEnright I'd like to use a gun like that as it allows for a faster proc on the brainburst once it becomes alive and I used to use Recon Lasgun for that reason. The reason I use the burst gun for now is because it's ammo economy is more self-sustaining and reliant while sitll having a semi-decent RoF. In higher difficulties you get so many enemies that without a dedicated Veteran you will have to sometiems consider the ammo economy of your team composition.
Having Deimos sword and recon las gun running assail is nice. You can knock down many enemies with block/push/force push. The las gun is a great hipfire spray weapon for when psykers get overwhelmed and another solid ranged option. Assail is busted as we all know and will probs be nerfed, but it’s fun being powerful. Running two health curios right now too

@MercutioUK2006 to be honest other guns are viable, but I was going for optimization.
The truth is that the following guns were tested:
- Recon Lasgun (with Infernus)
- Shredder Autopistol
- Laspistol
Everything other than the Laspistol was considered viable, but the Vraks Headhunter Autogun came out sliiiiightly on top due to its incredible hip fire accuracy, killing power and ammo efficiency.
The other guns had minor weaknesses (e.g. the Recon Lasgun had a tendency to make you compete for ammo because of its poorer ammo efficiency (it was more powerful to be fair). So unless you are lucky to get a veteran on your team, you might end up hindering runs rather than helping them!

I've been running this style (newer to this game) but I've used both shriek and the dome but not seekers gaze yet. Seems like yours has more damage to multiple targets. I have also been running the middle purple tree and trying to get those free asail throws. Is disrupt destiny a better choice?
If you're playing a gun psyker, then what I am showing is the optimal way to play.
If you're aiming for the highest level content, this path is the best way to go.
If you're still around malice/Heresy level because you're newer, you can run anything and still be fairly decent.
My advice would be to try my build for a few runs and compare it to your own. It is indeed damage loaded, but that's because enemies in Damnation are generally hard to kill without a crap ton of buffs 🤣🤣
@@RealAsianRobot ok thanks for your help and input. I'm trying out your build tonight. Doing Malice level as normal for me. Uprising and Sedition are pretty easy and usually try out builds and challenges on those levels. Level Hersey is challenging and I think I have only tried Damnation once and the team got wiped in probably the first 10 minutes.

Maybe mkIV dueling sword instead? And consider brainburst instead of assail, but that solves one problem and create a whole lot of other problems.
Mk IV dueling sword is the current choice. This was in Patch 13, but Assail is still the best choice for Blitz.
No matter what you will always have issued with armored targets. That's why Gun Psyker is generally considered less useful than a Staff Psyker.
@@RealAsianRobot stub revolver could resolve heavy armor enemies. Or stuck with brainburst version that activates on weapon attack. Other then that l, good mkIV dueling sword could dispatch heavy armor with ease. Overall, assail will generate way too much peril with this build.

What do you think about revolver and duelling sword? I've been running them to good effect on my gun psyker build, it even has good monstrosity damage if I'm landing mark 4 duelling sword headshots.
I'd say, to each their own. Revolver is disgustingly ammo inefficient without a Veteran to restore ammo, that's my only issue with it. When you play with randoms, you cannot assume you will get any drops.
Dueling sword is aight, but I prefer a chainsword if using a non-warp weapon.
It also depends on what difficulty you're primarily tackling. So what difficulty are you normally playing?
Damnation and Heresy normally, though I have managed to finish an Auric Damnation with it once, I'm still fairly new though, just started playing on Xbox drop.@@RealAsianRobot

Had a random psyker in a heresy or damnation run that used an autogun (not sure which one) and a sword (unsure which) and wasn't using any visible psyker abilities apart from something generating soulblaze (my guess is he was running BB with the jump targets). He outperformed the ogryn, myself (zealot) and another zealot; ever since this I've been trying to figure out what his build was since it was crazy cool to see a psyker not using staff or any active abilities and just gunning and slashing with the benefits of passive abilities
any idea what he might've been running talent wise?
Potentially a melee psyker build with blazing spirit on crits. This is pretty possible outside of Aurics and it looks cool. The only trouble is it's harder to run in Auric, but fun IF you can get it to work.
I generally don't favor that style unfortunately since for me the Psyker is all about control right now and it's pretty essential to the smooth runs haha
It sounds like it would be a fun challenge, do you think if I modified your build to have the passive 10% chance to brain burst, as well as blazing spirit, but stayed on track with the rest of your recommended talents/passives; it would be feasible? Thanks again for the helpful tips too btw

I run something very similar, I would be willing to bet he was running the Brain burst chance on hit, scriers gaze, disrupt destiny build. You pick up the perks that spread flames on elite kill and on killing enemy already affected by soul blaze. The Columnus autorifle is an absolute monster. You pop scriers gaze and start picking off elites which spreads all the soul blaze helping tick down big hords to all one tap. Since the rifle fires so fast its guaranteed to brainburst once its off cooldown. In my games you can melt most anything in 10 rounds, carapace is a weakness but you can use normal brainburst on them. Grab a force sword with blaze and deflector and you can handle most anything that comes your way. It feels like playing a better version of vet. As far as ammo, as long as I don't clear hords with my gun and only use it on elites I have no problems. Especially when a vet is in the party and can regen some ammo from their passive.
I just hit level 30 on psyker, is there a build you would recommend for still being new to the game? Ive been seeing your guides and have learned a lot but im not sure what would be a good base build that isnt too complicated just yet
My advice is to pick any of the builds you like on the channel. As a starter. Even with Grey weapons they will work on Heresy. Get materials and then upgrade them to gold.
The Surge/Voidstrike is usually the easiest for newbies to master, but some also like the Gun Psyker. All of them rely on Assail which is very strong for now.
Once you've got good gear just keep farming damnation for blessings and even more gear.

Any thoughts on chocob's gun psyker build? Noticed he was using the columnus mkv and maccabian sword with brain burst.
This gave me some ideas to try it out with a Kantreal mk12 with stacked crit damage and it absolutely slaps. Swapped assail for smite to at least be able to cc armor since its a hole in the build, but being able to outdps vets with 1.5k crit headshots is hilarious
Smite is okay, but you'll instead struggle with Horde Clear without Assail, so do be careful.
Because even if you CC armor, someone else has to kill it, unless you CC and kill it yourself. I found my team getting quickly overwhelmed in Auric Damnation without Assail unfortunately so I often use it to keep everyone alive haha.
Ya know what would be cool is if there was a talent that incased your bullets inside of assail shards so it mods your automatic to shoot them
I think my normal psyker build with staff is more powerful but I find my gun psyker with las pistol more fun.
I run a similar build, but use the autopistol, and I use brainburst instrad of assail. I know assail is more optimal, but brainbursting people with the autopistol is too funny.

@@murdershyz4419 it does feel a bit like a meme build. I can run heresy with it no problem, but you do have to be weary of ammo consumption and your sword is often your best bet against chaff hordes.

@murdershyz4419 you can run meme builds up to Heresy for sure.
But try to avoid it in Damnation. Although most people in Damnation are chill, from the point of view of 'honour', it does feel pretty bad when someone takes a meme build into your game when everyone else may be doing their best to win.
Also many damnation players are skilled but may only have 1 to 2 hours playtime on a weekday (this translates to 3 to 4 matches roughly). So I would avoid costing someone else's time since I would feel really bad about it.
I mean, I'm a streamer who plays games 7 hours a day for a living, so my time isn't that precious but for others it might be.
So just consider that 😁👍.
That being said, feel free to play more lore accurate builds in malice or Heresy where there is almost no threat of losing the match. It can be fun to roleplay in those difficulties
I'm very disappointed there isn't any REAL Gun Psyker build... the 3rd tree has a picture of a psyker with a gun but there's really very little reason to use it. There's ONE perk that kind of effects it where non warp attacks boost warp attacks but... your sword triggers it just as well and if you use a gun you don't have a high damaging warp attack to boost! Assail being boosted is nice but hardly amazing or worth diving into melee or plugging away with a gun to boost.
That is true enough and I kind of understand that people are disappointed that there is no true version of the Gun Psyker.
However, I think they tried to balance it for Auric Difficulty which is where the problem starts. The Gun Psyker basically competes for ammo so you have to limit your Gun use anyway since there are very limited ammo spawns AND you are competing with the Veteran who has bad ammo efficiency after the update. So yeaaaaah, the Gun Psyker is really behind this patch.
It's what I'm seeing after playing the Veteran. Ammo just isn't enough to even play a pure Gun psyker honestly 🙃🙃

I appreciate how much you get into the details and explain mechanics behind everything. I'm a build crafter too and mechanics of perks and such are half the battle. I WAS wondering something about Wildfire, if you know. It says that enemies that are lit on fire this way cant gain more stacks. Does that mean that if a tanky enemy gets wildfire on them, I have to wait until thos dot stacks go away before i can even do anything to them with my flame staff?

To explain wildfire better.
How it works is, if a creature dies with say 10 stacks of soulflame.
It will spread those stacks around it. However they can absolutely gain more stacks from OTHER SOURCES (I.e. your Purg Staff). You can test this by having the wildfire talent on and lighting some dudes on fire and after it spreads (when they die). Light them on fire in the meatgrinder with the staff. The stacks should go up 😁👍

I just want some more staves for the Psyker to be added. I'd love one with a full auto version of the primary fire bolt that's on most of the staves or something with like a continuous laser beam.
Sounds like you wanna roleplay Symmetra with that second one. I wouldn't mind that though. A beam staff that I can fire that gets bigger and longer would be grand 🤣🤣.

The way to use it this patch would be use the columnus mk5 auto gun with the mk IV dueling sword and put most points into the right side of the tree. Use it like this and it’s still very viable.
I like using brain rupture for like a super crit when i hit something or shoot something
Yeah, it's terrible for the toughest combat situations, but it can be fun to use it
@RealAsianRobot try the lasguns with the high firerate you can proc it pretty consistently the ones at the bottom
@overseer1018 the proc for brain Rupture is on a 15 second cooldown. You cannot proc it more than that. So literally anything will make it proc every 15 seconds.
Hence why it's considered a poorer choice for Auric and higher levels. You get hit by so much so quickly that 15 seconds is enough time to fight off 10 specialists and elites. So it gets dicey 🤣🤣
If you're doing anything below that, you're mostly all good.

@overseer1018 It's definitely helpful, but again, there are much better choices for Auric runs and that is why Assail is used instead. It performs much better and though it is less useful against monstrosities, it offers much more team safety.
So just be sure to keep this in mind! that said, as long as you are safely clearing the missions you intend to clear, use whatever makes you feel most comfortable. If you like the extra brain Rupture. Go for it 😁✌️

I found the brainburst augment with the skill that gives a chance to randomly trigger on hit handy. You still have an option to deal with big things, and with a high rate of fire gun, (recon lasgun, auto gun, auto pistol? Idk) it goes off at a decent rate.
I think Scryers gaze makes sense when you're going to not do anything that generates warp, so you can just let it max out safely on its own.
Assail I do honestly think is a bit overtuned, and may be changed or nerfed. Plus I find it a bit boring with how much it's used atm. I feel dumb for not trying out that you can just quell while SG is running though
Ultimately though, I'm still playing at low levels, so I would not be surprised if it falls apart very hard, very quickly. But I've always had a fondness for unintended builds like this
@@michaelkolano8686 It falls apart once you hit heresy/damnation haha. That's why it's not used in optimized loadouts like mine (which are geared for Auric Damnation).
That said, if you're having fun with it, go for it. Just take note that once you reach higher difficulty levels, you will be very strapped for ammo, that's why the gun is just a supplement ;)
@@RealAsianRobotI'm not surprised in the slightest. I'm really just messing around, as my psyker isn't even at max level, and I'm just using passable blue rarity equipment. I have a good grind ahead of me just trying to collect blessings for staves and such. (So much plasteel!!!)
And I'm in no way calling it the best thing out there, as even a basic voidstrike staff felt good, and assail is just easy mode

Where's the Mk IV Dueling sword love?
It's a good sword, but I feel that it is a bit lacking in terms of armor penetration and your sword is your crusher killer for this build. So that's why the Deimos is the choice for this one.
It is a fantastic weapon, but using it would likely cause you to have an additional weakness.

Tested on Phone, Tablet and PC. There are no volume issues. You might want to check your speakers or your sound output settings. No video is made without volume being tested
If only anything in this game was remotely accurate. i rolled 78% on ammo on the Vraks, and i have 10 bullets less than yours. It is STUPID.
It was altered to have less ammo in Patch 14. This build is from Patch 13. The gun is different now

This was 2 patches ago mate. That's how much the game has changed. Gun Psyker has been heavily hit by all the changes. It's why you have to update builds every patch with Darktide

Minor quibble but you pronunciation of preface is terrible.. The 'pre' syllable sounds like the 'pre' in predator not 'pre' like premeditated. The '-face' part sounds like the 'face' in surface, not face like facing a dirction. Preh-fuss not preee-fayse.

really loved your content so far but the last few videos you getting "out of hand" calling your viewership morons or idiots and sorts or beeing pretty arrogant. Wish you would tone down a bit a focus again on beeing a good mentor.
Don't worry, as stated in the video itself, I never said my viewers were the idiots ;). I specifically said it is for the ones who refuse to understand the basic principle that a gun psyker, uses a gun, but that a gun cannot be used for everything.
I do have to also say that my attitude is going to be consistent, because I'm very honest in the way that I speak to people. If someone says something silly or stupid, I will call them out on it. By that same token, I also praise people for insights and thank them for what they teach me.
So if my mannerism is not suitable for you, then you're welcome to switch to another creator, there are more of us out there and I completely understand that I am not suitable for everyone.

If someone is narrow mindedly focused on only one thing to the exclusion of all else. Then I will 100% call them an idiot. I don't feel the need to dance around the issue, because I want my people to understand that you must think outside of a narrow box. Even I myself am learning everyday from others.
So I must be honest and upfront with you that i will call stupid people stupid if i think that they are committing to something foolish.
That said, there are times when I am just playing around with some of my more regular viewers. I do mess around with them but they are generally people that I know quite well or that I get along with very well.
So again, I do apologize if my attitude is different to what you expect but this is also who I am. I am straight forward, blunt and I will not hesitate to call people out for foolish thoughts and ideas. I am well aware that this may make me less acceptable as a general creator, but it is also a part of my personality.

For every channel I know which is considered big in my eyes, they need to have specific manners while staying true to themselves. I can underdtand that this is probably not always possible. But I am sure calling people out in a bad manner will atleast not help your channel grow. Maybe be a bit more subtile when telling people they are as intelligent like a loaf of bread.
