That is why RM is going down faster thay the gravity, foreign investors are running away, prices and tax are skyrocketing, and what do they do? I think there has been too many Education Ministers rocking the boat introducing their own revolutionary _great ideas_ with the whole system stumbling from one thing to another achieving nothing as quality and standards falls gradually but consistently. There is no magic bullet. We need to put in the hard work, not concentrating on flashy panaceas that never pan out. The Malaysian Education System has been focussed too much on short term goals, and not long term multi-decade hard work. I am not sure all the red tape and reporting pushed on to the teachers are helping. SRJK (C)s are outperforming SRKs. Why? I doubt it is because they have a million KPIs.

Teachers are trained to be all rounders when they are in the field though not all are superb. The protectism policies in the past decades has trully deprived Malay from all the possibilities.
    We must admit Malaysia had gradually depleted of reserve, natural wealth of the country had been robbed from governance that divide and rule. The wealth cannot provide securities to Malay anymore.

    Look aside whatever little shortcomings/mis-steps of her/the ministry as you can feel she is genuinely concerned and taking action to improve the education n welfare in schools of our children. I think that is the most important thing is to work together with her/the ministry/school, and not against her/anyone for the betterment of the country and our future generation. Remember it is easier to criticize from the outside, especially when one doesn't have all the facts and is not involved in the implementation and the problem solving. Contribute with your time and effort and not just verbally (esp. when it is negative). Anyone can highlight a problem, but do also think of the solution and implement it to truly see if it works

The trend to speak English in school days was very common. Hence , Maths & Science be taught in English should be a better choice. By doing so, pupils will be versed with their oral English speaking capability, just like parents who were educated in the 60 &70s. This will help pupils to have the confidence to speak English among themselves. Later, when they come out to work & might face foreigners or even some Singaporeans , they have the confidence to speak English (Good English involves Pronunciation , tenses, grammar , construction of sentences). If you had taught in vernacular schools (SJKC), you would have seen that the so-called drilling-based success cannot be translated into problem-solving skills in real life. The school culture is mostly about asking for exam tips but not focusing on learning basic literacy skills. I'm not denying the efforts put in by SJKC, I'm saying that perhaps SK and SJKC are not much different in terms of performance. So it's a good idea for Malay parents to send your kids to SJKC if you want your kids to learn Mandarin and immerse them in Chinese culture. Firstly, I would say thank you Dr Sidek for helping more people to understand the role of vernacular schools. Sad to see people who complain about vernacular schools without truly knowing what is being taught there. Other than discipline, the first thing I learnt that Malaysia is our home and a very close second thing is we live in a multi-racial country, so we must learn to tolerate. So thank you.
Jadi banyak terima kasih atas keterangan beliau.

      Tolerating is not the same thing as integration and unity. Tolerate infer a degree of self importance over others. It infer an involuntary act.
      The main role of vernacular schools to my mind is in the creation of different ethnic-based communities. It's promoting segregation and shunning natural integration of Malaysian people.

    • @ennyong1985
      @ennyong1985 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ptaeiy Agree to disagree on your point. I didn't go to non-vernacular schools so I cannot comment. However feedback from my colleagues who went to those schools, they were segregated and encouraged to leave the school. It was an eye-opener for me but I remain steadfast that it is probably a small portion of the student population that are like that. So whilst I understand it may seem that vernacular schools might have a degree of self-importance. That self-importance is built upon the identity of being a Malaysian. That self-importance is built on the identity that as Malaysians, we live in a multi-racial society and that we must not speak ill, do-ill and wish ill of other fellow Malaysians. Maybe it's good to reference how Malaysian societies are built around the world. How many of them open halal restaurants because they went through vernacular school and were taught of the self-importance being a Malaysian overseas. I even chose to have a halal wedding banquet because of my education as it was not how I was taught.

      @@ennyong1985 Ok I see your point of view. Very much shielded, I would say, but honest and commendable nevertheless. I have nothing against vernacular school system in their methodology. I have issue with the existence of disparate schools for different ethnicities that cannot but promote segregation and inequitable educational experiences for our kids. ALL of our kids should go to ONE school under ONE atap, so that they can learn/compete/fight/emphatize/know one another, together.
      I would not try and say that your friends' unfortunate experiences were rare and far between, but that is what comes from all these years of our disparate school systems promoting ill-feelings and distrust. I would wager that your friends' bad experiences were either in their mid-primary or even secondary school years. I betcha if you put a group of malays, chinese and indians toddlers together and all throughout their school years, you will see a different result. I have more to say, but I'll await your response to this.

    • @ennyong1985
      @ennyong1985 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ptaeiy Whilst I hate the "very much shielded' comment. Here's our agreement point - I very much agree that all children should go through ONE school system under ONE atap. Although the minister has shared the increase of other races going into Chinese schools, Chinese vernacular schools must be doing something right.
      But on the flip side, I strongly believe in educating kids, the burden does not solely lie on the teachers' shoulders. Family plays a very large role as their contact hours with the children will always be far more than teachers. So in my opinion, whilst ONE school system ONE language under ONE atap is much preferred, it is paramount that some families work on disseminating the right Malaysian values.
      And not all vernacular schools are set up the same way. I've had friends who shared that whilst they studied in SRJK and SMJK, the medium of education was Malay (and English in English). Only difference was Mandarin and Tamil were compulsory subjects, depending on their race. But that's also a form of segregation.

      @@ennyong1985For some reason my long reply to you is not being disp;ayed. here
      Senang cakap. I'm for whatever best from all 3 schools systems incorporated into this ONE school under One atap proposal. If nothing from the SK is any good, so be it, tendang masuk tong sampah. No religious teachings during normal school hours. History of religion is made an elective. Make BM and English as compulsory subjects, and Tamil, Mandarin, French etc as electives. Let the kids learn/compete with each other under one attap since kindergartens. In 20 years you will start to see the change in society. In 40 years you would see a more pronounced change that we can ALL be proud of as Malaysian. It is that simple if the rakyat wants it and make the govt do it.

    I know education is a pressing matter, and we all have our aspirations for how we want each new generation of younglings to develop.. I believe the voices about what we want from the current education minister is loud and strong, and will continue to be that way as long as many of those who care continue to care.
    That being said, let's not kid ourselves. We preach about leaders being better than mere bosses, but have we stopped to think - if she was the employee and our country the business model.. are we acting as a boss or a leader? It's obvious she has shortcomings, as any person would. I really do look forward to, if at all, us being able to contribute our strengths with hopes to better our education here. That, rather than yell into the voids of the interwebs or anywhere about the disdains we have. If you want to blame anything more on the pandemic, this would be it in my opinion. Seriously, during the pandemic was a terrible time, but everyone suddenly being masters of complaining was what drove me the most insane.

Uniformity in education is not necessarily the best policy for unity, harmony and integration. Diversity in education reflects the essence of multiracial M’sian society.
