I can remember buying On A Wire, the day it came out. It was such a highly anticipated album. It was met, I suppose; without becoming the critical hit the band had hoped for it. Yet I strongly believe that this album truly holds its influence heavily amongst many. I loved the departure from their previous LP Something to Write Home About. I was 20 when it came out (2002) and had recently begun sinking into a lot of country (Townes Van Zandt, John Prine) and felt this release showed a mature and honest approach from the band. It really sits well till this day
I agree. I was a little younger and purchased it after loving the previous albums. About 3 days of spinning the album and I was in love. My favorite get up kids album by far. Only one I don't skip a single song. The only get up kids album I do that with
I started listening to them in the mid2000s and haven't stopped. I have 3 Get Up Kids CDs playing in my car (I have one of those 6 disk players)...and yes I still use CDs lol
@@mwurtele I was one of those people who like the two previous albums much better. I saw them turn their On A Wire album and was upset to not hear more songs from the older albums. I had a horrible fortune to see bands turn their new stuff before I had a chance to listen to it and really enjoy it.
I hated On a Wire when it first dropped but relistened in my 20s and ended up really digging it. That said, it was a big departure because they were starting to experiment with the whole New Amsterdams sound. Still good, just different. At least it wasn't as extreme as Saves the Day. Those guys went a real weird direction and never really turned back.
@@everpassingpxpx I loved most of saves the days albums even the newer stuff. This album I fell in love with at 16 almost immediately. I loved the drum sounds on it.
I hope subsequent generations understand how fucking important this band was for a very niche group of people. Something to Write Home About and Eudora are so fucking crucial for like 50 people who graduated in the early 2000's.

BIG agree, Taylor!
“You’re a few years overdue, I spent them waiting here for you” 🤌🏼 I can always just hear these words and the twang of the soft guitar that follows

I still love this performance. I remember when it aired I was like ok this is when the world realizes how great the get up kids are.
Sad that i was too young to know about them in their hayday, their music is so rad. I’ve missed alot of good stuff that way lol
I remember a lot of their fans hating this album when it came out. They toned things down a good bit. I thought it was a cool direction.

That's interesting, No Jim or Rob
Dude, they’re there. That’s just what they looked like in the On A Wire days.
Worst song they could have performed wtf
Ha ha, there weren't a lot of "hits" on that album, I actually loved this performance when they did it.
Lol😂
