    n54 and b58 is the elite choice.

      if u broke AF and cannot Offord to maintain the n54 , for sure it will not work @@Youngtruckerdee

      ⁠@@Youngtruckerdeeif you keep up with the maintenance, the n54 is pretty bullet proof. The reason why it’s has issues is due to people driving them aggressively and doing little to no maintenance on it and having parts fail after thousands of miles of not replacing them

      n54 isnt better than n55 IMO

      N54 is also very good and for the Diesel M57 and N57

      B58 is much more reliable than n55. Crank hub is a big issue for n55 and s55.

      N55 especially the ones in the 3,4,5 series are not good for 600 hp like he says no forged crank or anything b58 has so many advantages

      It is this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The holy grail are the N52s and the B58 for reliability and for power it’s the B58 and the N54. The N55 sucks and blow up around 500hp

      not really the n54 is only in E body cars. some ppl just want F body like the M2 or 335i f30

    Only the engine makes the experience come closer to an M car? I mean, if you’re talking about the “35i” as a thing, sure, but you’re talking about the N55 as a thing. I would (I don’t have much experience about driving N20) maybe say that the N20 in the 1 and 2 series can give you a good experience because you have a good chassis, I garantee a really good experience with a B48 in the 1 and 2 series. B48 is an amazing engine…but…the N20…is nearly decent (in an Engineering opinion (my opinion).
    I won’t talking about “TWEAKS” and “TUNNING” and “MODS”…that’s just kinda off when talking about these things…not talking about getting 600hp in a N55 engine, I’m refering more to changing Suspension, chassis setup, aero, weight reduction.
    Anyone can answer and give an opinion, I would be thankful to see other opinions with other experiences, I’m not even 30 years old so I have a lot to learn!

    The b58 is worlds ahead of the n55, n55 has a lot of the same problems the n20 has, open deck, bad rod bearings, old school air to air instead of the new much more efficient water to air intercooler on the new b58 and NOT a forged crankshaft on literally any of the n55 other then on the baby M variants (m235i, OG m2, maybe 135i but that wasn’t sold in America so I’m not sure) but the 335i, 435i, 535i all them do not have forged internals at all All this is fixed on the b58 minus the cast pistons which are still strong enough and a lot cheaper then full internals…and the b58 gets as good of fuel economy as the n20 so n55 is worse on gas mileage as well, fuck the n55, barely better then a n20 IMO this is why I’m not interested in one I’d rather go straight from my 428i to a 440i or m240i I’m also thinking about just cause they’re lighter

      props to you but i like the body styling on cars with the n55 engine more than i do cars with the b58 engine.

      Does replacing the n55 rod bearings with ACLs somewhat mitigate the rod failure issue? I replaced mine as a preventative measure but still scared of engine failure.

      n55 135i was definitely sold in america in the e82 from 2010-2013. the f20 hatchback wasnt though. and you are a goober for buying an n20 car. you were better off getting an e92 328i with a n52. looks just as good as the f32 anyways and lighter and much better to drive.
