    I love your transparency on the matter, before I bought my first tablet I also tried to do a lot of reseach but noticed that every review was sponsored and nothing negative was ever said about the product, so all I could do was listen to the objective facts of the product like size and screen texture. P.S. Also I really love your art please pray that I can draw like you one day ;p

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Prayers aren’t necessary nor helpful in that matter. Just practice and I’m sure you’ll get there. I know you won’t paint like me when you get there and that’s great for all of us because only you can do the art that you do.

    I'm barely 3 minutes into the video, and I have to say this -- thank you so much for talking about the corruption in hardware review products. I hate how it's spread from Amazon (where I would rely on reviews to decide whether I should buy a product or not) to TH-cam. I had literally replaced reading Amazon's reviews, but with paid/sponsored videos, I can't really trust what I see here either. I completely agree with your points and wish we could have more transparency and honesty.
    P.S., I've been watching your videos for a long time, I love your work so much! Thank you for sharing it, your opinions, voiceovers with us!

      After I went past the 10k mark on this channel, a whole new side of content creation suddenly revealed itself to me through these emails. I like the camera I use in my videos. A video that made me choose that one was actually an ad designed to funnel traffic to an affiliate link. Couldn't see it at the time but now I know what to look for. I believe there are a lot of hardware reviewers doing good work here. There's just a LOT of that other stuff too.

    i'm a watercolorist who several years ago wanted to explore digital art; i bought a large screened iMac and Wacom tablet (8"). I agree with Mikko's opinion, it is so awkward to use. I need to watch my hand, so the disconnect really bothers me. So much so, i only use my iPad Pro for digital work, my computer was left behind. (However, i lover the Wacom tablet for general use with my computer, never use a mouse).
    I also agree with Mikko's comments on product reviews. When you are paid, in any way, there will be an inherent bias. Also, i see folks who buy a product then review it-still a bit of bias there, if you shell out hundreds of $ you want to like the product. The only reviews i take seriously are from people who have a large collection of the product so they can do a comparison.

      I would hate someone to give up on art entirely just because they happen to be one of those who have trouble with coordination with an old fashioned tablet. Some have no learning time for it at all but for me it took a long time to feel at least somewhat normal with it.
      This channel would have tablet reviews from almost every manufacturer at this point if I hadn’t said no to their terms. Sometimes it was because they gave an unrealistic timeline to test a product I’ve never used before but more often than not it was a negotiation for a review that quickly turned into “collaboration” in the tablet company emails.
      I don’t regret pulling the plug in those situations because if it’s the only way to make money here on TH-cam then I don’t want any part in it.
      I’m lucky to have the awesome members on this channel. It’s because of them that my videos look a lot cleaner these days and they make videos like this one possible because I don’t have to make this for a tablet company.

    I've been comparing this with the Pro 16 and frankly, the USB-C connection gives it the instant leg-up.
    The Pro has ever so slightly more vibrant colour and the scroll wheel, but as an amateur hobbyist the colour isn't that much of an issue to me, especially with this being a more entry-level pen display, and the two additional buttons on the Gen 2 can do the same thing as the scroll wheel, just digitally.
    The frame being plastic rather than metal has no bearing on my decision since I don't draw outside of my home.
    The Gen 2 wins out handily for me, thanks for helping me come to that decision.

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have any negatives about the build quality. The biggest drawback with this model is the resolution. In UI heavy programs like PS, AI, CSP or anything 3d the screen icons take way too much pf the screen. The jump in price to higher resolutions is considerable though.

  • @alittlebitofelle

    I always enjoy your videos but I really enjoyed seeing you draw in photoshop as well. I have just started using it and find it a bit of a learning curve from working in procreate.

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not really meant for digital painting so that’s why some of the features will never be as good as apps that are dedicated for that purpose such as Procreate, Sketchbook or Fresco. There’s also tons of tools that are just for editing because that’s what PS is made for. Learning to edit on PS can be a very useful skill but it’s an uphill battle for painting because other options are better suited for it.

    I love your transparency with the review! To comment on the early drawing tablet / display segment, as someone who used a drawing tablet for about 6 years (Intuos Pro S 2013 version) until the cord of my drawing tablet exploded and i ended up making an upgrade to Huion's Kamvas Pro 12 (which is still making its arrival at the time of writing this comment), I agree that it is own skill compared to drawing on drawing displays which can be easier to get into mostly because of being more similar to drawing on traditional paper.
    Personally i got used to the drawing tablet i used fast but to master it so i don't have to look at where my pen goes often and my lines not being too wobbly or same-y as i am drawing took about 2 or 3 years, if i recall correctly.

    please help me out! i want to buy an artist 15.6 pro because i set my mind on it for the past 3 years. i really like the way it looks. the price is very similar to this tablet. is this one worth way more than the 15.6 pro, or the differences are small enough to not make a big difference? i dont really like how the new one looks, but if the new one is way better, i supose i will have to pick the new one. P.S. this is my first drawing tablet

    I completely agree with the review corruption. Years ago I bought a graphics tablet because people swore up and down that it was the best one at its price. In 6 months it stopped working. My friend who had a display tablet from the same brand, stopped working in about a year or two. I don't trust that brand anymore, nor TH-camrs who only test out products for a few hours and don't touch them again.

    They do have the screen stands thankfully for $22 USD currently. They look plastic, though, so no idea if they're actually usable. I really agree with the tablet reviews and much respect for your stance on things regarding that. It's refreshing, honestly. I'm so tired of feeling like the world of reviews has morphed into a world of commercials.

    Haha my cintiq pen did turn into a gross mess. Some Soda does clean it off though! So it is no longer gross and sticky.
    I have an on off relationship with art, but your videos have inspired me to keep trying. I've been using procreate on my ipad for it though, as I love being able to draw wherever.
    I do want to set up my cintiq again maybe for blender though. I bought that cintiq so long ago now lol. It has so many wires and is in the way quite easily, even though it is a smaller one.

      I used to practice sculpting with the bigger tablet but as you said the logistics of reattaching all those cords was just too much. I know some of the latest ones have more mobility but obviously the prices are still what they’ve always been.

    Mikko, you the best bro and i love that you explain how the review works because thats the first thing that came in my head was.... "oh no, paid reviews" :) But at 339 and with the cheapest ipad for 369 is a no brainer.

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cheapest iPads are really good options too. Especially right now the difference between the pro and basic iPads is reduced to just ram power differences.
      But that choice depends on the situation really. I’d love to do everything on the same device in the future but at least right now I need both of my computers as much as my tablet.
      If Apple allowed the ipad to work like a display tablet when plugged in it would be so much easier to do stuff like colour editing, 3d or pixel art. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s ever going to happen because they like the closed system that makes people buy their own desktops.

    I have a question for the iPad recording. When I do a drawing on procreate and watch the Time-laps Replay I looks choppy and poor quality. After I send that time-laps video to TH-cam it looks pretty bad. I wanted to ask how you make your time-laps drawings look clean?

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From the wrench icon go to Canvas>Canvas information>Video Settings and set the quality of your preferred recording. As an additional step you can make sure you use the uncompressed version when downloading it from iCloud. By default it download is compressed so you need to use the tiny arrow next to the downloads and then select “Unmodified Original”
      In most of my videos I usually don’t use procreate files at all. I just record the entire screen of iPad and those files are really large.
      All of the overhead come from an external camera.

Still using it for editing all my paintings but for painting, I think I made the right choice when I stopped using it.

      They’re both really good applications. Personally I think Procreate is easier but if one comes from traditional digital painting applications then Sketchbook is good as well. In the long run the important thing is that you find a way to practice that’s enjoyable for you.

    Hi so I'd love your opinion because I'm so confused weather I should stick with the huion 13 pro which is not the 2.5k edition that I was gifted for Christmas or if I should send it back for something else in the 250-400 dollar range? I've never done any digital art but I have a massive interest in it. I'm just a regular watercolor painter currently and me trying to learn new tricks had me lon you tube where I stumbled into digital art and these amazing devices however I agree that most reviewers have agendas I myself did it through Amazon for many years just for a bunch of free crap. The only thing I can truthfully say if the products really were crap I just send them back before a writing a good review. But I'm sure there aren't many that would do that. 2 more things u should know is yes I have a good computer and yes I do have a nice android Samsung phone which takes me to part 2 and what has me snooping at a different tablet, is it a good option to own a screen that can work with my android as well??

    • @angrymikko
      @angrymikko  ปีที่แล้ว

      None of the phone apps are designed for an external stylus so I recommend using it with your PC to avoid unnecessary hassles. Honestly if the Huion one works well then there's absolutely nothing sparkly or special about this one. I really do not recommend investing in expensive gear in the beginning. I recommend spending that time and energy learning the basics. There are plenty of assignments for beginners on my channel that are 100% free and they're the same exercises I give to my concept art students in school. Good luck on your exciting new journey. Don't give up =)

      An artist once told me it’s weird to have your hand “in the way of the image” while drawing. I thought it was funny but he was serious. Those other tablets aren’t at all bad tools but I also don’t think they’re for everyone.
