Over the last 700 episodes, mega64's members have been very candid and honest about certain important things. Some things are private, some are livestreamed. I would be completely shocked if any of them quit/retired/got fired from Mega64 without them making a statement on the podcast. I've always felt like the podcast was not always derricks favorite part, so I'm glad he's getting to do what he enjoys behind the scenes, even if I do miss his presence.
I’m pissed off at those fans because it’s obvious it really bothers Rocco, to the point where he even says it’s stifling creativity. That’s infuriating to a fan like me, who wants more than anything to see Mega64’s creativity flourish. The ONLY thing I’ve ever complained about is just about the type of content, which I will never complain about again. It’s never been a legitimate complaint either, just selfishly wanting to see more of the things I personally prefer. For that, I truly am sorry. The last thing I ever want to do is add to the cacophony of annoying and ignorant fans! Mega64 doesn’t have to release another piece of content, and I would still treasure and adore them just as much, being forever grateful for all the brilliant, unique, masterful comedy they’ve already created for so many many years!! #mega64LIFE
I saw the reddit blowing up because of Derrick being out of the intro of the podcast and was honestly just confused. Derrick has communicated pretty clearly over the years, that more in-depth creative projects are his passion. Derrick had pretty clearly (to me) been phasing out of the podcast until it was announced he was taking a step back from it. Removing him from the intro makes sense both since he's currently not wanting to participate in it, but also because leaving him there could communicate to many that he is coming back on "soon". Saying all that, as someone who doesn't interact in the community much that people like me notice all this stuff and just don't worry about all the weird over analyzing that it seems some people in the community tend to.
@@Grapefruit5000the “killers of the flower moon” situation Rocco brought up was basically the community’s reaction to him sarcastically giving Hades a 0/10. I wouldn’t want to do this shit if every opinion I has was scrutinized and brought up by hundreds of people until I address it. Also, they see each other every day as is for the past 20 years: he doesn’t have to do shit for you! sorry your parasocial relationship isn’t validated by someone wanting to do their own thing.
@@newperson_sameoldmistakes Nah, Derrick loved to provoke the fanbase but hated getting any push back. One of his last appearances on the podcast had him asking for Shawn to read the top 10 albums in the "albums you have to listen before you die" book just so he could talk shit about each one, he was a "provocateur" with too much ego. It is sad cause he's really talented and funny but pretending he's this poor victim that the fanbase mistreated is BS.
One time Derrick uploaded a new music video he directed and I wanted to support it and boost it's visibility so I was going to leave a comment but I didn't really have anything to say so I just wrote "DERRICK GETTIN' HIS DIRECT ON" thinking it would be ignored but then it ended up being the most liked comment and then eventually it got deleted. I just wanted to take a moment and say sorry bout that.
Dude. The cut from Shawn and Garret to Rocco and Kevin had me laughing in pain. This poor man talking about his week of chronic pain being cutt off by this digital Jedi and Kevin is juts. Prefect. Chefs kiss.
I really understood Rocco's point, I think he did a pretty good job of expressing something that I think most people who comment dont bother thinking about. I had a similar thought last time dallas was on, he comes on once in a while talks for an hour or so and suddenly the next two weeks are 3000 people ripping into him. Obviously there should be some awareness and responsibility when speaking to a wide audience, but unless someone is saying some truly vile shit, they dont deserve to get ragged on at such an absurd volume.
I thought that was pretty insane and honestly made me feel really disconnected with the fanbase. I really felt bad for the guy. Sometimes I’m shocked at how many angry/unappreciative people there are in the audience.
I’m eternally grateful for this podcast, it’s helped me get through a lot of crappy times in my life. You boys also don’t owe us a damn thing, good on Derrick for putting himself and his happiness first. You guys all deserve to be happy and do what you want to do, can’t wait to see what you have in store for us this year!
Even though you've talked about it before, it was clarifying to hear about Derrick again. It's been a little stale without him, in my opinion, but everyone who wants to be there is there, and the boys are still working on stuff, and I'm excited for the Boardgame Olympics stream!
Mega64 isn't media, it's "social" media. That behind the scenes, friendship simulator is part of the "contract". From what I'm hearing Derrick just wants to stick to traditional media.
While I'm sure that like 80% of the Derrick comments/emails are mostly people indulging in the bit, and while I've really enjoyed Derrick being on the podcast, when I think about if I were in his shoes, I'd get bored of doing the same thing year after year, too. Doesn't matter how great my friends are, I'd be fuckin bored after YEARS getting together each week goin "yeah, playing this video game still. Yep, saw this movie that everyone else saw" etc etc. Think it's great that Derrick has been doing his own thing. All of the special livestreams have gotten cleaner and better, more and more well produced since Derrick has shifted his focus to non-podcast content.
Just commenting to say that I appreciate you guys and loved the podcast. People are memeing and being annoying about stuff in the comments but there are a lot of people that love what you do and support everyone in their own endeavors
Rocco is completely right about how a podcast isn't just a one hour a week commitment, any offhand comment can follow you around for long after the fact. I even think he undersold it, which was exemplified by the chat starting to say "Derrick getting his drink on," something from years ago that Derrick himself has publicly stated he's sick of hearing. To use another internet person as an example, Dingdong, formerly of Oneyplays (who was a guest on MegaStrange) has had to address on his stream multiple times about how offhanded comments he made in a video from upwards of seven years ago still follow him around. But the video was recorded late at night and he didn't even remember saying them the next day, let alone years later (see: Shawn and the baby man). Remember when Derrick was frustrated by his experience with Hades, and made an exaggerated outburst that the game was a 0/10? Clearly he didn't mean that literally, yet the comments from the video were all about that and he had to address it in the next podcast. I don't blame him at all for wanting to step away from dealing with that nonsense and focusing on making creative things.
I kinda get that but that just sounds like the same shit you deal with irl friends. You say something funny or whatever and you get ribbed on it by your friends and family for literally decades. don't see that much of a difference.
I will miss Derrick, but every side of this makes sense. The fans def been pulling on Derrick especially. I do think its okay to miss him too, he was a big draw to the show combined with Rocco. I prolly will tune out more since he's gone, but I won't demand he comes back either. Thankful for the whole team we already have over 600 episodes with Derrick.
