Interesting and eye opening conversations you guys are having on the state of things in Kenya in re to doing business with Government institutions. I think, this Association needs to also Partner with Counselling institutions to offer their members mental health support to corner these cases of depression and suicide due to unpaid bills - a value addition to their members
I agree that the lack of accountability has compromised the payment of pending. I believe we should also have a list of shame whereby responsible individuals are called out. We need to put a face to the mess.
County officials demand bribes in exchange for payment. In some instances asking for bribes before the payments are made! And in most cases take the money and go mute. It is cruel.
Then President Kibaki instituted a Pending Bills Closing Committee which settled all pending bills prior to 2010 that is why there exists little or no claims pre 2010
@susankariuki, assume for once that you were the president, would you have your government do so? Utajua hujui. So when one wins an order to deliver goods worth 10 million you'll pay the thugs and expect deliveries to be made? Kama ni hivyo basi wewe simamia urais 2027 for you'll get my vote pap!
I supplied a public high school Will building materials for their new dorm. The dorm is up, millions of shillings put in and millions owed. It’s now almost 4 years, I’ve received nothing but stories. Am so sick at this point. They keep saying the government hasn’t given schools money.
That's why they sell a ball point pen for 100/- to government but when the public, which is often very ignorant of the suffering suppliers go through hear about this, they blast suppliers for greed. Besides that add the hyenas that are in government procurement and one is screwed. It is really suppliers now who have to stop their greed and also stand up against corrupt public officers.
The association might want to consider coming up with a rating system for efficient and ethical government departments, that their members and suppliers can look at before doing business with government.
I supplied a certain nyanza county with a friend of mine in 2016 worth over 900k... problems began after completing the job.. after pushing a lot we received 200k..... my business partner died 2 years later and I am yet to receive the balance... Needless to say, I moved on... paid all my debt by myself and swore never to deal with county governments again.
Unfortunately, the government is the largest employer and has the largest buying power in Kenya. Hence the impunity and corruption, which is reinforced by a syndicate type of system. Until we wipe out corruption, we will continue to suffer exponentially.
KenGen? I trained 2 of their staff a few years ago then they sat on my cheque for 3 months - sh36k! I was only paid after seeking intervention from the CEO! I said never again.
I am not doing business with goverment. Last week I received 14 Emails from KRA about tax going back to when I was in high schol. I dont work or live in Kenya fo 18 years now. ask him to explain the harrasment
I was not aware of existence of this association. Kenya water institute really frustrated me, I had to involve a lawyer for them to pay. Unfortunately all what I got was a loss. Just wondering why I was being frustrated and yet a demand letter pushed them to pay.
I knew lazima kuna mtu ya kuzimia lazima ataingiza ukabila mahali kwa hii story. Let me personally confirm to you that we would rather die under Ruto than prosper under your hubris and bigotry. Ata kikuyu na kalenjin wakifungiwa manyumba they always have your minds where they live rent free.

This is so heartbreaking 💔...what kind of a government do we have and why cant the occupiers of these offices have some sense of humanity!

Even private companies. Kenya is a mess - Nigerias little brother. After you build your home in a fair area, invest globally.
@@enterpreneur9738 STOP PAYING BRIBES !
How about introducing the concept of escrow in these payments with the govt?
That makes all the sense and thus cannot be adopted by the government because in the government, common sense goes to die.
A system that can bypass "deal making" will be short down.
Then President Kibaki instituted a Pending Bills Closing Committee which settled all pending bills prior to 2010 that is why there exists little or no claims pre 2010
Government should pay upfront since all supplies are bugetted for

Or at least have it in escrow

Then how did they approve the project without a budget! Some of these guys are just being disingenuous
Go to court and auction the school
Suppliers should charge government a punitive penalty for delayed payments

I agree, but then...

Kudos to Kakamega and Kericho counties.
Wish he mentioned the other 2 counties that pay suppliers promptly.

Safaricom business model of airtime is insulated from pending bills.

I am enlightened today

😂😂😂😂 Mungai Kihanya himself. OVER CHARGE such guys like 3 times so it caters for the time.
What he is not saying is that when there is reshuffle, the new guys want their cut even if you had already cut to the other guys.
Some of us stopped supplying to the Government because we have never been paid for services delivered.

Even Uhuru alicheza hivo just make debts mwenye anakuja ashindwe imagine it was raila they wud have just swept everything under the carpet.
I am disappointed with Lawyer Duncan. Honestly, you have refused to answer. Why ? Any compromise 😂😂😂
Funny enough ghost suppliers are paid efficiently. Sad
