Having never been to Fraser Island but seeing many of these videos, I've concluded it's the place to bring your most heavily loaded trailer onto the softest sand possible while being the least prepared or knowledgeable. But yeah, the first guy could literally crash head on into a freight train and win. In fact, I think he stole it from a freight train.

I'm far from being a 4x4 or beach driving expert, so far away, miles away from it, but my son now has his P's. He loves beach fishing, so do I. For his 17th birthday I bought him a tyre de-flator and an air compressor.....and showed him how to use them, end of story. It would be mixed emotions videoing this. I would have have laughed at that bloke, until it hurt! Others not so much. Cheers!

No one ever uses the straps that come with Maxtrax. They make it so much easier to dig them out after you've used them. That's why I always feel like such a knob when I don't use them, which is every single time.

Depends on the weight & the tyres. Most of us are running road legal tyres & in Australia, that means the sidewalls are very flexible so realistically the lowest we can run is 5psi & even then, it's only for a short distance at low speeds. Lowest I've been is 3psi idling in 1L & even then I was nearly cutting the sidewalls with the rim.

Jim H not even mate a lift kit is not needed really for sand unless you are in other peoples really deep wheel tracks bombing up a hill, it’s simply tyre pressures and knowing where to stop and how fast you should be going

know how you feel, all my exp.was on steep hill in NZ, and swampy farm so thought I'd try my disco 4 in the sand, I had not sorted my mode, I drove straight in a deep pit, bellied down, years ago would have walked it first, but My leg does not let me. So embarrassing, but a kind guy jerked me out from the firmer ground, so least I learned not at all good advertising for ford, rangers n raptors these vids, look like town cars
@Geoff Rogerson That's actually not true, and neither is the myth about the longer footprint. Tyres with lower pressures deform more, press less of their shape into the sand, and therefore remain on top of the sand more than in the sand. The rolling resistance will increase on harder surfaces but reduce on soft surfaces. If the tyre has a higher pressure and therefore less tendency to deform from the donut shape they will sit 'in' the sand more than 'on' the sand and have essentially what is a sand bow wave constantly in front of the tyre. Have a close look at the trailer in this video and you will see the 'wave'. If they had reduced the pressures even to half it would be far easier to tow rather than anchoring them
You cant do boggy sand in high range, you will fuck your clutch, my go to every time I'm on the beach is 12psi lowrange and it just floats on top of the sand

How much air pressure do you use? In chile we have big sand dunes and use as low as 2 psi y light rigs when sand is really soft.
