Great job defending the faith with zeal, spunk, and true charity.

1:20 in the video Kevin is referencing, Fr. Kappes and William actually discuss the nature of dogma pretty early on in the video (which Kevin would have known had he watched the video)

I have no problem thinking Jesus’s “brothers” were cousins because I actually dated someone 20 years ago (yeah, I’m old) whose father died, and his mother moved in with his father’s brother who had kids. He called them “brothers,” but technically they were his cousins. If this happened in the 1990s, I don’t think it’s hard to understand it happening in the ancient Jewish world.

13:40 I was thinking the same thing, I thought it was just me.

I mean, that is why I brought up that point, because it does make the Catholic position stronger. I gather all facts and then come to a conclusion based on what I think is most likely true - I don't ignore facts that seem to point to the conclusion that I think is less likely.

20:42 is Kevin perhaps referring to Mary Salome?

Don't quote me on this, but I am fairly certain that her name was just "Salome", which is a Hebrew name. If I recall, that name has the same etymology as the Hebrew word of greeting, "shalom", which means "peace". The addition of the name "Mary" to Salome's name was a medieval idea, but is found nowhere in the original text. If I am being dumb here, let me know, but this is what is coming to mind and a super surface-level google search seems to back this up.

I stopped watching at 2:26 when you said "He's absolutely accurate". That is all that I needed to hear. Good game Kyle, you tried your best, but, like you clearly said, I was absolutely accurate.
A little bit more seriously though:
Your point about the commonality of the name "Mary" is well understood, as an Irish American. Both of my grandmothers were named Mary, and my only sister is named Mary as well.
Also, I wouldn't say that I "throw out the whole Gospel of John", as much as I just think that the authors of John and Matthew had different ideas as to what actually happened. I don't really make a judgment as to who is correct, just that they have different ideas.
I probably will make a video where I offer my "revised thoughts" in light of your response, but I am also totally down to discuss the historicity of the Gospels in general, since I think that that is a very good point about Mary's perpetual virginity being essentially downstream from the historical reliability of the Gospels.

It is also important to understand Mary as the new arc of the covenant. The old arc of the covenant was so sacred that when the soldier touched it to steady it, he instantly died. Mary carried God within her womb. Modern day science shows that through maternal chimerism, the cells of Jesus (who is God) would have continued circulating within her for decades after His birth thereby keeping her holy and unblemished. I love that you are searching Kevin. Stay true and God bless you.
