    Boy, if you can make decent bricks with that clay the possibilities will be endless (Barbeque, firepit, walls, pond/water storage, etc) .
    I find now that I'm older(65) almost everything takes more effort. Take care......👍

    Don, I have only recently come across your channel and I must say that I am dually impressed with your spirit and tenacity. Starting from scratch anywhere is a big undertaking but doing so as a retirement lifestyle change is huge. But from what I have seen so far I would judge that you have what it takes and will conquer every obstacle with your formidable determination. You have created the opportunity to claim your land and make your space to fit your needs in exactly the way you want it to be. If we were neighbors I would let you barrow all of my tools (and, much to my sweet wife's chagrin, would probably end up out there helping you much of the time...) for all the work you are taking on. Best of luck to you in this adventure. You got this bull by the horns and are wrestling him right down to the ground!

    Probably to late to mention it but crisscrossing the layers of blocks will make it more stable.

    • @affordabledesertliving3487
      @affordabledesertliving3487  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sam I thought about that but I like the uniformity of this design. Also in the next video you will see that I am using construction glue to hold the most crucial part (the pavers at the top which you step on). Also one thing I didnt mention in the video these are temporary steps as I will put a porch here in the future and remove these. At that point I may go wooden steps but they are expensive to build and a bear to move if you have to move them! Thanks for your great suggestions!

    One of the problems with putting sand over gravel like that...
    Gravel has lots of gaps between the stones
    Over time the sand will filter down into those gaps...
    An
    Cement could have been added to the sand which would hold the sand in place

    • @affordabledesertliving3487
      @affordabledesertliving3487  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great suggestins Jim h. This set of steps is just temporary. Sorry I dont believe I mentioned that. They will be replaced once a porch is in this spot. One year later and they are still working beautifully and are super solid.

    Very helpful channel. I just got an acre in AZ and I have been a little stressed about figuring out how to get started. I'm only 20 so I barely know anything about land lol. But I REALLY want to figure out how to never go into debt. Thanks for being kind enough to share all the things you know (: really helps people who don't have anyone to ask.

      This comment really warmed my heart bud. My goal has always been to help others get a step forward towards living debt free. It's a wonderful thing not to be a slave to the system. With just 1 acre you will have to pay a bit extra for the permit process since you cannot opt out of inspections. However learn everything you can about your county and determine how best to develop your land. So delighted to offer some guidance.. Cheers!

      Good suggestion but will be doing mulch like other off grid friends here have done. Free and not as hot and I think looks much nicer. Strictly personal opinion on that one. For example your correct about gravel. My next door neighbors chose that option. Great suggestions and definitely appreciate them.

      Walkertongdee. Sharp eyes Bro. Love it. The reason is that this section of my property is quite expansive and so this small amount of dirt wouldnt have helped a great deal. Cochise County allow u to connect to a electricity pole if u wanted to? And ur already connected to well water?

    • @affordabledesertliving3487
      @affordabledesertliving3487  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kaleb these are excellent questions. Using the opt out permit still allows me to do anything power or water wise I choose. That said, having had a history of living with abusive Power and Water companies in California that jack up your prices anytime they feel like it I will be totally off-grid for power and my water will focus on rainwater harvesting.. My Solar Equipment arrives next month but it will be some time before my place is wired. I now have water that is stored in a 1200 gallon water tank. I will show all of this stuff in upcoming vids. Thanks for watching!

      For major purchases FedEx and UPS deliver right to my door as I have a rural address. I pick up supplies myself with toyota corolla. Large items I borrow or rent a pick up. Internet is excellent through a company called usmobile although a bit expensive. $50.00 per month. I use my Iphone 8 as a hotspot and connect this to my computer. Works great even for uploading videos.

    1.)Sell your car and buy a 4x4 pickup(F150) that will pull a 16 foot trailer ! 2). Start researching small diesel generators(5kw) as you will need an 8000 btu window air conditioner . HINT.....A small diesel generator will use 50% less fuel that an equivalent gasoline powered generator ! THEY are more expensive , BUT will last 4 times as long as long as you perform regular maintenance on them ! Surely , you don't plan on trying to STAY in your little Condo without a window A|C during the day !

    • @affordabledesertliving3487

      Joe. Wow lots of coffee for you today LOL. Okay. First I dont have the cash for a 4x4 pickup. My corolla is valued at about $1200.00 the math doesnt work. Second. My solar when installed will power a mini split taking care of the heat. I have a generator already. Also I dont even break a sweat in this lovely insulated double paned window cottage. Even in 96 F. Which it was today. Thanks for watching!
