Last week’s monsoon was no joke.
I had never experienced it and wanted to see how the rains were in AZ. So I tried to go to my property near st Johns.
I tried driving down the dirt roads and decided it was not dry enough. I waited 2 days.
I tried again and I got stuck deep in the mud right in front of a wash. Then it started to hail and thunder storm, and rain. Even though it was brief about 30 minutes later, the flash flood came and it was pretty scary.
Luckily I brought my Starlink, and I was able to call for help. I had to get out of that pit because it was gonna thunderstorm that night. So I consider myself pretty lucky.

Hello Don from Leicestershire ( in the middle of England) same age as you ,spent last 50 years working outdoors from farming to highway lighting long hours to bring up large family ,now trying to wind down(not like you).
Love watching your updates ,the way you tackle jobs and find solutions I can relate to ,have always worked on building and work projects on my own .
Sayings we use over here are" where's there's a will there's a way" , "perseverance pays" and a favourite of an old work mate when something went wrong "I knew that was going to happen" .
Certainly fitted the bill when I watched your novel way of guttering installation.

Boy! your Georgian accent is so much like my parents' old neighbor from Louisiana. I grew up in rural Oregon where we don't have much of an accent, so her manner of speaking was so endearing to me as a kid. Her grandkids called her MeeMaw. Danni had a farm and we did as well. Your shpeal about the hawgs was something she would definitely have said, haha! Many a conversation was had between her and my dad about farm animals, while she sat in her Durango in the middle of our dead end street, and my dad and I would stand at her car window. Usually in the rain. She'd drive by and stop until someone would come up and chat ☺️

My thoughts exactly. I had storm doors on my homes in NY and in CT. They really protect your home well. You can get them with sliding screens and glass and also with blinds that open, close, raise and lower. You could build your own out of wood and plexiglass or regular safety glass.

Hi mrmyrealestate. Thanks for watching. I will use the downspout you see in the system (at this point anyway) but if you look in the trench you will see 3" schedule 40 PVC. This will be a bit more difficult than birdhouses (my previous skill level LOL) But in all seriousness I will do my best to make it work. Of course all of that will be ready to view in the future. Second the idea of a porch/patio/awning over your front door. If large enough would offer protection for the generator.

Good decision about not going through that water flow. That little Toyota doesn't have much tire tread touching the road at any time. Many people die trying to cross those each year.

Yeah I make the little toyota do all sorts of things only a truck does but fording heavy water when it looks dangerous is not one of them. You are like the squirrel that went birding instead of preparing for winter. Install a simple dog house porch made of fiberglass panels to keep that rain off the front door. Once you have a water catchment system in you can relax and go galivanting. Save those water payments to buy an old beater truck. Good Luck!

A few weeks ago, the misses and I had a nice lunch then took a walk along the San Pedro. Saw the same great blue heron several times. Just walking along the river is great for bird watching here. Go to the parking area next to the Charleston Rd bridge and walk North. Though, be careful during Monsoon as the water level can rise quickly even if you can't see/hear rain anywhere nearby. - Heading out to the property to take some measurements here in a few minutes. Need them to pick the right house location. Going to start clearing some space to start building the house here soon. We'll be about 7-8 miles east on 92 from where I think you're at. - Also, before the AZ natives give you grief, "Monsoon" means "Rainy Season". So, saying "Monsoon Season" is saying "Rainy Season Season". Can't tell you how many times I've been reminded of this by the locals ... Hahaha

      Options:
      1. You could use an awnings from an old RV, if the fabric part is ripped you can slide a heavy duty tarp in the grove to replace it.
      2. Hang a tarp right under your gutters, put fishing weight in the grommet holes at the bottom and Velcro down the sides this will keep water out of your house and from ruining you floor. This works if the door swings into the structure. If it swings outward, use some tent stakes and rope far at the bottom of the tarp, walk away from structure enough that you will be able to open door to exit. Hope this help.
