Hydroforming Cube with a Pressure Washer

- How to use DIY Hydroforming to inflate steel cubes from flat to 3D. The first experiment attempts to mimic an expanding paper origami cube, but proved to be much trickier to achieve using sheet steel due to the large force required to unfold correctly. I may try this again, inspired by how the MythBusters managed to make an inflatable cube/balloon from sheets of lead.

It's more of a stress test for the welds.

Wasn't planning on watching an awesome hydroforming video today, but here I am watching an awesome hydroforming video.
Thats a very uncomfortable pillow.
Being from the old school of oxy acetylene welding You might try that instead of tig welding . 2 U-shape bent parts to make the cube with 60 % less seams
Impressed with that hose and those fittings
Great stress test. You can really improve the skill by doing this kind of work. Great training.
That cube was extremely satisfying. Awesome video as always mate.
Thanks!
One would suppose that mechanical stress begins to affect the welds as the angles change during inflation.
I made two stroke expansion chambers like that, but the welds take a real pounding.😊
Even if I know it would never work... I would have loved to see those first one's unfold into cubes. I wonder if that's even possible. Like, is there any kind of weld that can withstand that level of deformation?
I do think it will work if I made it on a larger scale, as the steel will be more flexible. The unfolding cube design works when made from paper or metal foil, the Mythbusters even made a lead balloon the same way
Interesting. Now do a tesseract.
would should try annealing the metal at different points in the forming
I've been taught that you can't put a round peg in a square hole. Your video just blew the WATER out of that theory Hey wait! It sill doesn't?.... We kid because we love! Thank you for the video. The effect is memorizing. Cheers from So.CA.USA 2nd House On the Left
Hi, can i ask what gauge plate are you using here , and what method are you using to weld the edges together? ...Thank you for the fascinating content...
I'm using 1mm thick mild steel, welded with TIG
It's like a steel LIPO failure without flame's 😂
Well, that was a bust...
Symbiosis of square and ball. I wonder which shape can withstand vacuum pressure? 👍
ball
also square + ball squall
😎
Now paint it gold and put some question marks on it.
Love the lead balloon fold
That was my inspiration, a larger one should work, just like Adam & Jamie's one
Please make more videos.
Nice video, could you please tell the pressure produced by the pump, and tge sheet metal thickness? We would be very thankful
90 bar pressure washer and 1mm thick mild steel
Nice!

Brilliant
Any tips on how to connect the hose? I welded the nozzle but the tube melted so i had to cut it of
I think I welded one tack at a time at low amps with TIG, with a wet cloth around the hose, and cooling it down after every tack
@@ConnorHolland thanks hopefully it also works with 2 mm steel
@@lexvelema5576 Yes I think 2mm will work fine
What is the purpose of this?
metal cube pillow is my favorite
Shame about experiment No1 man. The pop was potentially epic!! Exp No2 a ball with corners it is then.
It was close to working, just need to make some changes and try it again
Those aren't welds, you didn't use filler metal
Too much boom means too much air.
This only properly works if you remove all the air.
Air compresses and water doesnt.
Now do it with compressed air
Now test it with a vacuum
Final exam at TIG welding school!
Put filler rod in your welds and it wouldnt fail like that...
Was it fun playing with that and spinning it?😊 I mean did I have a good balance...
Yes it has a satisfying perfect balance while spinning
It’s how dirt bike exhaust are made ?
Есть какая то практическая польза от этих опытов?
Try a dodecahedron
Now do a tetrahedron.

....OK,THIS *WAS* ARGON WELDING INDEED OR KIND OF THAT SO I GUESS THIS WAS THE BEST OF WHAT WAS POSSIBLE
............STILL KIND OF SAD THAT PLAN A DIDNT WORK THIS TIME
Металл 2.5 мм аозможно надуть?
Yes 2.5mm will work
Why?
Because I wanted to know what would happen

It's a Borg cube after bean burrito night!
Funny
These videos scare me, injection wounds are really horrible.
looks like a Samsung battery
Not a cube.
Why?
To see what would happen, is that not why you are here also?
