Raspberry Pi 4 Animatronic BD-1 Companion Robot

  • When Dave saw BD-1 while playing the latest Star Wars game on his Xbox, he knew he had to build a BD-1 companion bot for himself. Some things definitely had to be achieved for this build, like the display in the back of the head or the sim / med pack shooter of the buddy robot. Adding the projector complicated the build, as now the power consumption got even bigger than the Raspberry PI would already takes. This Astrobot is not designed to walk around, but rather sit on your shoulder, like in the game: bit.ly/2WduZ00

    Huge respect for showing your errors and your process for diagnosing and overcoming them. I feel like people don't share their mistakes and it makes us feel inferior or incapable when we come across them in real life. I'm impressed with your ability to embrace your mistakes and persevere. AND DID YOU EVER PERSEVERE! That came out absolutely beautiful!!

    I love this so much. Besides a lightsaber I want nothing more than an ACTUAL BD-1 as my little buddy! I could seriously die happy if I had that hahaha. He can project any TV show or anything in general, ride on my back like a good pal and shoot out Stims (or shooters of my choice of alcohol) like how fucking cool would that be!
    P.S didn't show off BD's stim shooting ability enough! Otherwise fucking fantastic good work mate

    Just found the video. Just a thought with the battery distribution board has voltage detection from it, could you give the pi some ability to read that data and maybe go into a standby mode or give you a voltage alarm....also you could use lithium ion eg 18650, maybe heavier than lipo but might give you a little bit more life..

    • @Davedarko
      @Davedarko 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Eckhardt. There should be files for laser cutting and 3D printing most of the parts on the community platform - there's a link in the description that leads you there, where there are also links to most of the parts that I've used. But I would not advertise this as an easy to follow thing to build :D Definitely a time and money sink and I've killed one or two batteries in the process. It also has this 85% finished feeling, where to get to 100% I would have to redesign most of the parts and rebuild completely. Thank you for the interest! There are other people out there with very detailed 3D printing files, too - like Mr. Baddeley.

    @2:50 why is this module there to begin with ? what's its purpose ?

    • @Davedarko
      @Davedarko 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The PI is notoriously know for bad timing for PWM and neopixels, the Arduino takes over those functions, controlling the LEDs and servos via the PWM board.
