There was manipulation to help Byron maintain his position and there was manipulation to help Bell gain a position. Byron shouldn’t be penalized for what the two cars behind him did. Those two cars need penalties. Neither should Bell be penalized for what Wallace did. However, though Bell did not intend to get into the wall after passing Wallace, he did make the conscious decision to ride the wall. You can hear him throttle up after he hit the wall rather than letting up to leave it wall. That was the penalty. This time NASCAR got it right. Had Bell let up the throttle, he would have slowed but still stayed ahead of Wallace and would be contending for the Championship next Sunday. Two cases of manipulation but only one of the benefiting drivers committed a penalty.

That safety rule is broken at every Darlington race period. What Bell did is nothing like what Ross did, he did go up and ride wall. He hit wall due to lose of control. There was no safety concerns when chastain road the entire wall to take Hamlin out of the points race and he still got to be in the points race . Oh wait it was against Hamlin and Toyota so it don't matter . smh
Kyle, Denny Hamlin made a comment about Ryan Blaney “punting” (my word), everyone out of the way on his way to the front. Denny said that had he the speed, he wanted to immediately give back what Ryan was passing out to many of the guys he passed. I remember what Ryan has said in the past, about not being pushed anymore out of the chance at the final 4. He honestly has made good on his promise to himself and his fans. His car was the fastest and he needed to get to the front. “Moving the others” was his only way to get there. We as intelligent fans, can see where things are unfair, and unclear; where the rules are written so wishy washy that they can allow too much ambiguity. This system may be exciting, but it is not recognizing the “Top 4 drivers of the year; they represent the drivers (and teams, and OEMS), who won the 3-race shoot out. Where is the driver who won 6 races this year? The driver who was “the story” for all of the year? I was in Ross Chastain’s car when he got the “order” not to pass the #24. Ross had him beat but was told to not pass. How can an underperforming driver and team become the “Driver of the Year”?! Also, how can Joey and “the scientists” that squeezed a win at the right moment in another underperforming year as well potentially be declared the driver of the year?! The excitement is fun, but the “truth” of what is actually going on is tearing apart NASCAR’s integrity. We are not stupid. There is a breaking point coming for us all, and all the tricks and gimmicks are not going to hide the disingenuous behaviour of the sanctioning body much longer. NASCAR will survive, but it is not going to be what it could have been. A celebration of our very best. In hockey, the team gets 7 games to win the final cut. If they want to use a playoff system, NASCAR might want to consider giving the actual top 4 drivers/teams, more than 3 races to qualify for the next cut. Maybe the top 4 drivers from the year’s performance, are automatically in the final cut at the end of the regular season; but lose that recognition if their consistency drops below a certain level. This is all way above my pay grade, but I like us all, can see that Larson is NOT in the FINAL 4! Kyle, how can that be right? Kyle, thank you for the chance in 350+ entrants to win a Kevin Harvick helmet. It was exciting to be part of the chance to own a piece of memorabilia that you chose. Thank you for the great job you do as a reporter. I look forward to Beating & Banging. Jim
Kyle, I just watched this “20 years in the making” thought provoking expose’ by Brock Beard that he recorded the day after Austin had the Richmond race won…and then his night went “complicated”. th-cam.com/video/Aylau5ItrqU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vJ5f9YBe64fOWN3w Brock makes a great case for why we need to stop using the “playoffs” to crown a champion, and why. Brock does a good job of explaining his reasonings. As I post this, I see that Kenny Wallace has comments on Brad Keselowski’s X comment, “This should be the last straw on the camel’s back for the playoffs”. Brock shows how there are some components of today’s NASCAR that would actually enhance a return to a Season Championship, champion. With everything in chaos and turmoil, we can know for sure that something is going to happen; soon. Jim
A rule cannot be vague or ambigous . If it is it's not a R.U.L.E. It's a J.O.K.E. Therefore, is there a definition or a way to idenitfy what riding the wall reality is. Words matter because it's hard to make a car ride a wall, it's not a horse. Would someone send me a copy of this rule. I know it's a stretch but bets are made and taxes are to be paid and it is for this reason that this water could be deeper than you think.
NASCAR needs to punish the team owner if one of their teams manipulates a race outcome. Remove the owner from the owners championship battle if it happens at any time in during the year. Accountability will filter down.
Impossible. For example, everybody knows bubba Wallace faked feeling a flat tire and slowed way down after being told by his team that Bell was one point short. The problem is Bell and Wallace are on different teams. Only same manufacturer (just like the 24,3 and 1) and there isn’t a smoking gun that Wallace did that or that he was told to do that because the conversation actually happened before the race started about what to do if we need it. You need way more proof to punish a team. Too much money on the line.
Your comment is IDIOTIC ! Nascar has ALWAYS been a manufacture VS manufacture series...teams only matter for the owners of each team. Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Dodge, Buick, Plymouth, etc. Drivers will ALWAYS protect thier fellow manufacture drivers.....PERIOD !!!

There is so much nonsense going on these days. It's the format that I don't like. The driver with the most wins this season isn't in the game. The results of this race seems wrong. The so called wall ride didn't improve any position. The blocking however did affect the end results of the race. I really don't like this format. There has to be a better way.
There IS an answer : Go back to the 1980's --1990's point system !!! NO PLAYOFFS...NO STAGE RACING !!! The most consistant driver throughout the season WINS THE CHAMPIONSHIP !!!
@@michaelpatton7065 They did away with the old system because the NFL kicks their ass in ratings after the beginning of Sept. They were tired of losing out.

Unfortunately, manufacturers have been having "hypotheticals" all year with points adding up or taken away here and there for the length of the season. The magnifying glass and scrutiny was just in full force due to the implications of this race. You could have a case of this every race. The problem is, Bell definitely broke the rule by the rules' exact definition, and for the very reason the rule was put in place. The fact that it was the last lap didn't help his case, I mean if it happened on lap one of the race nobody would be talking out it, and it would have never come up. The one thing that surprised me the most was how easy Chase Elliott conceded to Blaney, as a fan you would have thought that even though Chase knew Blaney was better and the fact that Chase needed the win, Chase and Blaney would have bumped and banged a bit more and given the fans a show to remember. I guess Chase just didn't want it as bad. Just my 2 cents!
I know having the in-car camera is nice, BUT, the best thing they ever had was RaceView. It looked like the graphics of a video game, and the car you'd pick would give you any view you want instantly. You could drag/rotate/switch to aerial view, etc. It was awesome. I'd watch every single moment of every single race back then, but when RaceView left, my viewing was easily cut in half.
12 keeps getting away with things. I'm hoping he gets the bumper more than most next season but the play off format is a f**kin clown show. How the 22 and now the 24 is in is ridiculous
Nascar has turned into nastycar! All the Nascar audiences seen the blocking! By teams, Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota! The drivers don't win the race, even if the teams are cheating on live radio! The idiots in management! I still don't believe that scandal with bowman and logano gets in. Dillon gets disqualified after the race! Bell gets disqualified after the race! William Byron asking for a blockade? Bell asking people to slow down, so he can pass for points! It's nastycar! Now! Elliott whining! Dude you make tons of money!
Bell’s mistake was accelerating against the wall. IDK if that was necessary given the position gained, or he could have spun if backed off and turned. Great channel, calm cool and collect.
I don't care about in-car cameras, I just want to see the whole race from green to checkers. I would like to see the rules applied evenly and old school racés that really thrilled the fans. Davey Allison was a real racecar driver. These Sunday powder puff games are a disgrace to the man who kept giving even after the Lord called him home. Thanks to you Davey, and all of the real men like him. God bless you all and your families.
They need to call it something different than a “safety violation”, as NASCAR thinks it’s more dangerous than running Daytona or Talladega at a 190 mph and crashing half the field and no one gets penalized! It wasn’t Bell’s intention to “run the wall”, though momentum of his pass carried him into the marbles, which caused his car to hit the wall in the middle of the corner and rode it out and ran off the wall to the finish line! I concur with his statement after the race. Chastain and Dillon were definitely protecting their Chevrolet partner Byron from getting passed! No way NASCAR was going to allow two Toyota’s in the race and voted Chevy! I’ve noticed that Byron get’s pretty whiney in these situations.
I only watch for the laughs these days!!!! Nascar is a joke!!! Its a raffle for a trophy at the end of the year!!! Empty seats at every event yet , Nascar still makes all the $$$$$ and as far as paying for in car / watching a race......more fans will exit!!! Nascar big wigs want that PPV $$$$ period!!
Same here! These bumper cars suck and the racing is mediocre at best! Some rules apply to some and not all. I love how the commentators did not talk about it. I hope someone starts a real stock car racing series with the France family is not involved! Fans are upset and I can't blame them! The France family ruined the sport and don't care$$$$$.
NASCAR has the first call correct, only because CBell panicked and mashed it, rather than turn down and go. That said, RCR, Trackhouse and 23XI should be seeing massive fines and penalties. The manufacturers are the blame. Just because my drivers drive a Chevy, I'm not driving one, because they're crap. So stop thinking we follow NASCAR, because of the cars.
I personally think Hendrick and JGR should receive the heaviest penalties and fines, you know... the benefitting parties. sending a message is very important here.
@frostvgm4021 I get that, but Byron and Bell have zero control of what's going on outside of their cars. Yes, one or the other is going to benefit from it, but isn't penalizing their teams the same thing as penalizing Ford because some idiot drove an f150 drunk into a bus?

All Bell had to do was get to the line before the 23 which he had in the bag. Running the wall is against the rules and he got caught. Bell is a great guy, and I like him, but he was wrong and I'm sure he knew it. Is there a rule that says you can't block on a short track? I've never heard of it. Guys have been doing this forever, why is there such an uproar now? Fans just hate it when their drivers lose out. Not sure what Elliott was crying about. He turned down the track into the 17 and then blamed him for hitting him. Byron was a top 3 car all day and he earned the spot.
It’s not just they were “blocking”, they made no attempt to pass Byron. Dillon and Chastain ran 30 laps side by side with neither attempting to pass each other. Hocevar ran outside Brad, pinning him on the inside. Then Dillon’s team telling him that the 24 can’t lose his position.

@ Well we both agree that the 23 is an idiot among other things but I missed whether or not he had a flat or not. Either way Bell wasn’t the only driver to pass the 23 at the end. Either way you look at it there was multiple things going on at the end that should be looked at and penalized if they are going to call the 20 on that.
Calling that a wall ride in the spirit of the Hail melon is idiotic. What's going to happen at darlington. Everybody who gets a darlington stripe is penalized?
Are you sure you're not trying to get some where that's not on a map with the Darlington reference. I'm a dirt sprint car and midget guy so I like Bell. But all ya have to do is listen to the in car audio, Bell matted it around the 4th turn wall. It has nothing to do with Darlington. Trying to connect the two is like mixing oil and water.
You’re an idiot dude. How is that not wall ride. I’ve been watching NASCAR my whole life, and I have never seen anyone at Darlington with a Darlington stripe ride the wall from the entrance of turn three all the way out of turn for halfway down the stretch. I swear. You people are dumb and dumber
First of all BELL did NOT intentially Ride the wall like Chastain did he almost crashed the momentum carried him into the Wall and when he gassed it he pulled the car OFF of the wall????
I’m a Hendrick guy. Glad to see Byron in. But I despise the playoffs. NASCAR needs to stop policing so much. Bell was screwed. His “move” was nothing like the famous Chastain wall ride. But either way, If someone has the guts to ride that wall full in to the throttle. Let em have it!
Apparently it took 26 minutes for Rick Hendrick's check to clear. In the unlikely event that Byron wins the championship next week. it will have a yuuuuuuuge asterisk by it.
Kyle Petty said on his podcast “ there is no rule against manufacturers giving input to their teams, there is a rule against riding the wall. NASCAR is it’s own enemy..
How exciting! Almost half the field involved in shenanigans on the last 10 laps! We can't have no chevys in the final! NASCAR is garbage. Go Brad. NASCAR..boo.
My opinion on kosovar is that he is young, Logano did the same shit, they all do. Give him time, Jeff Burton forgets he drove for roush in the trucks and Busch series and then cup a top team elite team in those days.. Jeff wasn’t innocent. Kosovar drives for spire who, isn’t a top team. I think he is doing great in a car that isn’t on the elite status. Maybe he mad Harrison isn’t very good. It’s very rare to have a father and son and both be on the elite level. Really only the Jarret’s come to mind where a father and son and great drivers. No not even the Earnhardt. Dale jr was mediocre at best unless it was restrictor plate races. I can’t remember was it how oval that sun Harrison at martinville?
DQ both the 20 and the 24. Suspend the 1,3, and the 23 for race manipulation. The next driver with the most points moves up into the final four ( like Logano did ) which is Larson. He’s had the most wins of them all anyway - six.
If Ryan Blaney wins the championship he will be the first driver under this format to win back to back Championships. I'd like to see Tyler Reddick win the championship this year For the only Toyota driver in the final four..Good luck Tyler.
The "wall riding " is a No No or more to the point it's a rule and Bell should have been disqualified from the race for it! However I'm sure the 23,3 and the 1 will be fined and should be for race interference.
NASCAR Shit show! When it came down to JGR or HMS, we all knew who was going to win that battle. I think both teams manipulated the outcome using other cars to move over and block. In 2013, all three MWR cars were penalized 50 points for race manipulation, effectively eliminating MTJ from the championship cut off. In this case, you have non teammates, but like manufacturers doing the same thing, with Bubba, Chastain and Dillon. Docking 50 points is like removing that race entirely, so if both Byron and Bell were docked 50 points, Larson is in the final four and deservedly so, with 6 wins. This chase format is BS! If drivers still got in the championship based on the whole season's performance, this would not have even been an issue.
If you're asking about Chris Bells post, a bow tie is slang for a chevrolet. Hes insinuating that he got less than favorable treatment from nascar because hes a toyota driver rather than a chevy driver.
Elton Sawyer is a damn liar, it doesn’t take 26 minutes to look at the 20 overdriving the corner and hitting the wall. I don’t think Bell had anything to do with the 23 slowing down or he wouldn’t have drove it in so hard.
It only took 26 minutes to find out if Hendrick would be angry if he had no cars in the playoffs. He stated he would be, so did a huddle and gave it to Byron. LOL. In all seriousness, what happened with the 1 and 3 blocking for Byron was just as serious. Bell should have been the fourth driver in the playoff, or the next closest driver should have gotten the spot when Byron was disqualified. NASCAR HAS BECOME A JOKE AS A RACING ORGANIZATION. GO BACK TO REAL BODIES AND NO AERO WITH IRON BLOCKS WITH SMALL V8'S . This should stop the restrictor plate races. Mandate frame dimensions and design and leave the rest up to the ingenuity of the teams. NASCAR has no business building cars and selling the parts.

I don’t think what Bell did even close to Ross’s circus display! Yes he overdrive the corner and got into the wall but you could hear as soon as he gathered it up he gassed on it and got off the wall. He was robbed IMO
I’m an old school dirt racer. I’ve been around racing my whole life. My Dad had a dirt late model in the garage and I loved helping at home and the track. Pretty clear Bell did "wall ride". Hard to say that Dillon and Chastain were blocking. At one point Chastain almost wrecked Byron, so I dont think Dillon and Chastain did anything wrong.
@raymondhoffman4371 I am an Elliott fan. All I am saying is Bell's wall ride was obvious. Chastain and Dillon would be in same category of what Wallace did for Bell. Hard to prove anything.

“Do they know the deal”. Manipulation! Simple!

What the hell was Elliot doing? He dropped down a lane and ran over a slower car. He was even told on the radio of the slower car. It is as hard to watch a breakdown of these races as it is to watch the whole race.
Bell broke a safety rule no if ands or buts about it, and he didn’t need to.
Exactly.
I do think Bowman would have passed him if he didn't accelerate but I do agree that it's a safety violation and it has to be called.

@@brinkee7674 And broken at Miami where they often ride the wall. And like Darlington, it's promoted as part of the expected race action.

Wow! What an amazing comment. Thank you very much, Jim. Really appreciate the time you took to write it and the kind words.

Find it yourself. We aren't your secretary.
Riding the wall is when the driver stays on the throttle after contacting the wall. Obvious even though not stated!
NASCAR needs to punish the team owner if one of their teams manipulates a race outcome. Remove the owner from the owners championship battle if it happens at any time in during the year. Accountability will filter down.
Your lost

There is so much nonsense going on these days. It's the format that I don't like. The driver with the most wins this season isn't in the game. The results of this race seems wrong.
Great comment! Thank you.
It's funny how commentators ignore the 12 shoving the 16 into the 24 (damaging Byron's car).
Every car out there was 'shoving' another car. It's Martinsville for Christ sake.
Kind of like Daytona, where the 48 pushed the 24 into the 6 Fords on the high line, wrecking them all.
12 keeps getting away with things. I'm hoping he gets the bumper more than most next season but the play off format is a f**kin clown show. How the 22 and now the 24 is in is ridiculous

And here it is two days after the race and people are talking about it. Exactly what the series wants leading to a championship race
It is called Laughcar for very valid reasons.

All about the money , it ain’t about racing anymore .
NED DID HE ADVANCE HIS SPOT HELL NO SO KEEP ON WHINING
