Wow, the infamous M3 Almond Joy's, Hot 🔥 Damn, I've been a passenger of those trains since the 70s, they'd rock you to death, but fun to ride!!! I grew up in West Philly, 52nd and Market is where we would board the train, wether East or West Bound!!! As Archie and Edith Bunker would say, "Those were the Days", lol!!!
used to ride to EL to 69 street all the time in the 70s and 80s. i would ride it to work during the early 80s to bridge and pratt. then catch the B bus to woodhaven.
This was likely somewhere between the years of '90-'92. The first time I remember taking the el was when I was 6 years old in '92. We went down center city to see Batman Returns at the movies.
Really brings back memories because I used to ride the 40Something year old trolley cars & the near 50 year old Budd trains over the years plus I remember the subway scenes way before the were all remodeled sometime later on through the decade .
The Budd trains were almost the same as the R 38 trains of 1966 that ran on the A line in my old hometown of NYC except for not having the motors for the ceiling fans on the roof.😊
Looking for a video that shows the old market street bridge I was wondering why the West side of the El looks newer the the East side When the west side was built first Then later on extended to frankford But it makes sense now The bridge and the stations got remodeled back in 2000 something 🤷🏾♂️ idk
at 13:16 my dad use to take me to tht track to ride my bike..i remember trying to race the trains on my bike as they pased..i would also look at them..great memeories..and awesome video
When you think of it, the B-IVs could be considered a larger version of the M-3 (minus the roof ventilators). They shared the same propulsion controls but higher horsepower motors, Ohio Brass couplers, Cineston throttle/brake controller.
They were built from 1960 til 1961 and were the first stainless steel subway trains in America except for 2 experimental sets for NYC in 1934 and 1949 built by Budd also.
The M.T.A. NYCT.A and the CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY, YOU CAN STILL RIDE BUDD BUILT RAPID TRANSIT CARS FROM THE 1960s. Of course the New York City, R-32s, being the oldest.
Not quite. The single units (601-646) were all Westinghouse. The married pairs? The odd-numbered car of the married pair were GE, and they were permanently coupled to the even-numbered car, which were Westinghouse.
Wow, this was 12 years ago.The westinghouse singles had pneumatic cam group boxes, motors, motor generators, resistors, and the GE cars had MCM control equipment , with the same components manufactured by GE. I was under the cars at 69th Street.
The single units and the even-numbered half of the pair had WH 1454A motors and equipment whilst the odd-numbered half of the pair had GE 1250F1 motors and equipment.
RDC: Rail Diesel cars (which they are not). These are all-electric (yes, I know they use air brakes) subway cars built by Budd. RDCs weren't the only things that Budd Built.
So cool how you got video of the milbourne station and the old Sears building . I spent lots of time hanging out at both places
When I first saw the place when I was 16, summer of 1966, I wanted to live in Millbourne.
That humming sound when they were either leaving the station or stopping in the stations were classic
propulsion system.
Brings back memories. Love how those K-Cars sway so gracefully... miss those bumpy M3 almond joy cars.
I like those cars, too.
I love my City . I miss the 90's so much
My dad worked there till retirement he went deaf from all the sheet metal banging.
Another era gone everything’s gone but the wind

Ahhhh, the classic interior light flickering of the old "almond joys". Memories.
I really wish I was around there by the time the old Almond joy cars where still around. I have missed out on some cool train cars.
@@greenbizzy4804It's *were* ,not where.
these are similar to the r32s made by the budd company in 1964 for NYCT
would have lasted as long as the 32's if they had AC in my opinion
TexRail's trains sound like they have the same horns.

606 is at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum, and 618 I believe, is at the Trolley Museum in Maine.
606 is being prepped to run at ptm. They need the motors re-wound and brackets for trolley poles.
Olden days.
K cars still had blue front markers

Market side got a complete rebuild
Frankford side got deck replacement and structural rehab

I gather that the M4's now ply the 15th-30th stretch faster than the Budds were permitted to,
thanks to CBTC.
Nope.
They're fast, but not as fast as a Budd.
Great video! Real fun cars to ride!
It was summer 97 when the first 6-car train of the M4's hit the rails.
It doesn't mean this was filmed the same year that the new trains hit the rails
Does it show Kensington when it wasn't zombieland like it's today?
believe me they dont and before any one asks about the bss those are different models those are made by kowasoki

although I'm from Philadelphia I live in the deep South I'm a southern guy I know my hometown is in my heart
Boy do I miss the sound of the door opening on these trains!
You didn't include the split between Huntingdon and Somerset? The split is the highlight of the line.
I'm a train and I approve this video!!!
Hard to believe how modern they were even just before retirement.
Ik but they are janky and not fit for riders so they had to get a new one

MF and MTA metro north railroad are the only systems in north america that use under running third rail shoes
amazing time capsule, so many memories. even captured a CLASSIC slice of el-life @ 36:00-37:00 hahahah
Sometimes you feel like a nut....
They go very fast
The M.T.A. NYCT.A and the CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY, YOU CAN STILL RIDE BUDD BUILT RAPID TRANSIT CARS FROM THE 1960s. Of course the New York City, R-32s, being the oldest.
Wow!Very cool video!
The BUDD cars had mixed propulsion from GE and WH. Not the same motors as R32's, but the same propulsion equipment like the NYCT R26-R30's.
GE MCM and Westinghouse Cam Control.

Ok hope you enjoy
Did these cars have Westinghouse? (same propulsion as the R32's)
The single units and the even-numbered half of the pair had WH 1454A motors and equipment whilst the odd-numbered half of the pair had GE 1250F1 motors and equipment.
NYCT SMEE cars uses WE 1447 motors (1447C 100 HP on non GOH cars and 1447JR 115 HP on rebuilt cars).
We're there any single cars on the M-F line because septa used singles on the p&w
There were units that could operate by themselves on M-F line, but always ran in MU.
+Silverliner Johnson Thanks. I just thought I saw married pairs and singles
The 600s were the singles. 601-646. The 700-900s were married pairs. 701-924.
It's *Were* ,not We're (We are).
I'm not sure.
2007 I was born
I thought it was 1997 when the M4 were released.
These are the old cars...not new
36:56 60th street to 56th street
And that's my lunch
They look more like an R38
Same builder but these are older
Ommind Jooy cars.
This is not septa train this is trolley
The M3 Budd cars will replaced by the New SEPTA M4 cars.
I can't wait til the M-4s are replaced by the M-5s.
Belay that. The M-5s will be uglier than the M-4s.
I have to
Oh really
those are not BUD cars . RDC bud car s ,check MBTA RDC,S .bud RDC rail cars ,on the B& M R.R. Boston mass .
what?
RDC: Rail Diesel cars (which they are not). These are all-electric (yes, I know they use air brakes) subway cars built by Budd. RDCs weren't the only things that Budd Built.
Joseph barefoot, these most certainly are Budd cars. Their side fluting was a Budd design trait.
@@josephheston9238 they're air electric.
Doors and brakes were air controlled.
