Thanks for this, Jared. I love the Vision FG as an EDC. It's so capable and the SuperLock is the most fun to fidget with. The Damasus also serves well as a dress up knife. Knife Center has a carbon fiber and S35VN exclusive that I want to get my hands on.
Great video, I like the tests and the way you presented the information. My only tiny gripe is that I think you'd benefit from an infographic at the end to sum up your results.
Despite all the points you made here, I think it comes down to preference and I still prefer the WE knife version. The feel of the action and the noise that it makes when fidgeting with it is more to my liking.
That said, the Civivi version is 90% of the knife for a 25% of the price. You really can't beat the value per dollar.

Jared what you do for your viewers and the community in general is highly commendable; videos like these contain substance and truth and your effort doesn't go unnoticed.
Similarly, I'd love to see a replicated 3-way face off between the Demko AD20.5 Grivory, Demko AD-20.5 full Ti, and a USA Demko AD20 in G-10 (or obviously Ti if someone has the🥜's lol). Another variable that you could consider adding would be to have the clip-point in one of the variants and the shark-foot in another. When considering the standard in which Andrew Demko locking mechanisms are praised, I think a shark-lock face off would be the cream of the crop as far as content goes.

Interesting results, for the extra cost of the Damascus I'd stil say better off with the 14C28N or Nitro-v but if you don't mind paying extra for the pattern it's a good choice if your into the look of Damascus knives. The thicker handle is usually better feeling in hand so not surprising that the WE version is not as comfortable for long cutting sessions but for your average user I'm sure there isn't much problem with occasional cutting. The only reason to grab the WE version in this case is if you want the extra cutting or are into titanium, otherwise the budget offerings offer much better value and better overall usage. I liked my we snex vision, but always wished it had a better detent. I fixed this issue by nesting a magnet in each scale, in line with where the blade’s tip ends up when the knife is closed. Makes a big difference and fairly straight forward
Mate, great video just saw it on adventure carry, I'm in New Zealand and it's hard for us to find a good EDC, I have got my choices down to the Civivi elementum and the vision FG, this review helped me finalise my decision, thanks bro, I'm looking forward to looking at more of your content.
Have the Damascus version & was a little concerned it would not be up to par with the higher level steels in the rest of my collection but looks like it's a winner. This is definitely one of my favorite EDC pieces even above many of my mid to higher level knives. Keep up the great work!!!

Man what a great review. You nailed it with this testing. I personally have both models and far and away prefer the WE version due to the thinner handle profile and I also LOVE the clip on the back of the knife. I thought it was weird at first and grew to really love it (side note, the back clip won't scratch your walls or your car door if you accidentally rub up against it)
same here. the vision r clip is soooooooooo good. i feel most people trash it because theyve never actually used it or put it in their pocket for 2 seconds and said "dats weerd i dont wike it". its not only the easiest clip ive ever used but also one of the most discreet clips in existence. also the only pocket clip i can get in an out of athletic shorts and sweatpants with 1 hand. its so so good. its also supremely comfortable in hand being so neutral
Yeah, I'm with you. I bought my bronze WE VR almost 2 years ago for 200$ new but forgot how lol. The clip definitely grew on me, too. I know the majority disagree on that clip, definitely. With all that, I appreciate and enjoy my ultem Nitro/V version. I reckon I choose from what I think I'll be doing in that day. Personally, I lean towards my WE on the basis of it being the original, the materials used, and I like the slimmer profile coupled with the spine clip. Both are sooo dayyummn good and that's a fact.
I love all the testing. While I wince every time, it's exactly what all my knives go through in day to day use.

Great video, some of those tests hurt to watch lol. I've got the R (in damascus) and the FG (ultem) and like them both about equally but for different reasons. The WE is more of a dress knife for me with premium materials but also a few little details that are missing in the FG (like the sculpting in the scale near the lock bar and the deployment hole). The ultem feels a lot chunkier and less refined to me but I'll usually pick it if I'm wearing jeans, because it is still a great knife, just different.

I love this knife. I have the black g10 w coated nitro v blade and it’s just amazing. The only complaint I have is that the stop pin sits VERY close to the edge on the choil. So I have to be careful when sharpening.

Great video Jared! I bought the We version first, the Civivi nitro v version second, then got the Civivi s35vn cf knife center exclusive last. The gimping on the lock bar and conventional pocket clip make the Civivi versions preferable to me. The We's pocket clip sucks in loose fitting pants and shorts, the knife turns sideways and really hurts if I bump into anything. The non gimped lock bar is slippery and causes finger tip soreness. Now I wonder how the s35vn one would do on your tests. I really like your hands on review/testing video's. I added Civivi milled ti clips to both of my FG's, helps with ergo's.
you can remove that pin on the budget one so that the spring can come out like the premium. thought it was cool you have the option.
I have the Civivi Vision FG with natural jade G10 scales. For the price (I think I got it on sale for $70), one of the best knives I own, and definitely the most fidgety! I love it! It's heavy for it's size, but that just makes it feel so solid, and weight doesn't matter to me, I'm used to carrying pistols that weigh over 2 lbs., that little 4 or 5 oz pocket knife makes no difference.
I LOVE the Civivi Vision FG (I'm carrying that and a Shaman right now actually). I wish it had the hole from the R instead of the thumb stud but it's such a great knife. I think the Vision FG and the Kizer Momo are the two more "budget" knives I've been most happy with buying in the last year. Such an excellent knife. I hope they do more with the Super Lock and I'd love to see more variations of the Vision.

The detent is also absolutely affected by the strength of the spring as well as the tang geometry, I cut an ad20.5 replacement spring to size so it was a bit bigger than the original spring in my WE vision and it improved the detent and action a lot

Civiv Conspirator Damascus button lock flipper is still holding the edge and I've had it since it first came out years ago.
I ended up getting the knife center exclusive with s35 and really like it. I love we stuff but absolutely hate 20cv/m390/204p. My absolute least favorite steel. Or I would have got the we version. Only thing I don't like about mine is the weight. Once I have to sharpen it I'm going to take it apart and lighten up the liners and put more holes in it that will be covered up by the carbon scales on mine. But other than that I love it. Oh and the pocket clip is annoying. It gets hung up on stuff I walk past sometimes because the duck bill. I may take off some material off the duck bill clip or bend that part down a little

Switched the pocket clip with the Altus and what an ergonomic transformation it made for the Vision FG!!
My Vision FG in S35 VN came with a 22dps bevel and I sharpened it but kept the same angle to whittle hair but the edge still felt like an axe. I reprofiled the bevel to 17 dps 600 grit, ceramic hone, and 1/2 micron strop. What a Lazer razor!!!

Before i even start this video: i JUST picked up the black damascus version this week because a couple weeks ago i picked up the damascus ivory version and just needed the matching set once i found out about the ds2

Only thing the WE won was the edge retention which is to be expected due to the steel used and with the price premium
But the civivi is more than enough, zero complaints
Now for your only nitpick: the clip well choking back
For myself, NO MATTER how i hold the civivi(s) in my dominant hand, the clip is in an extremely comfortable position, it even helps me have a more stable grip
If i use my nondominant hand then yea its a little out of place but i highly doubt i will be using my nondominant hand to use any knife much if at all lol

I was never really a civivi fan until I came across the vision fg. First one I grabbed was the black micarta / Damascus blade. Once it arrived it was like I could see the light. Immediately ordered every single version available as well as the we knives version. They're literally perfect EXCEPT for that damn pocket clip.....

I switched it to a mini sheep dog clip and it is perfect now. Civivi definitely needs to change their pocket clips
I simply screwed the clip from the Böker Magnum blue Jay onto the Civivi Vision fg. Visually, in terms of feel and in everyday life, it fits perfectly. 😅🤷♂️👍

Can’t say I’m a fan of the Vision models after having tried both We and Civivi versions. Great video though!
Just over a week ago I got a Vision R and at the same time had a Civivi version delivered to me for a friend, so I had that in my possession for long enough to compare how they felt side by side.
I already sold my Vision R, hated the feel of the lock “nub”, even more so on the Vision R, but wasn’t a fan of either. Just felt uncomfortable to use.
I found the action more annoying than “fidgety”, and while the We was beautifully made it just was not for me - this all comes down to personal taste I guess, but it’s put me off of trying a Demko AD20 as I don’t know if I’d find the shark lock action too similar. While it was briefly entertaining, I didn’t love the fact that without touching the lock bar I could flick the blade out if holding the knife at the right angle and using enough force, so was unsurprised to see them open in the video when dropped.
Quite honestly I get more enjoyment out of my K390 Delica wharnie with Lynch NW titanium scale kit, despite it being a boring back lock. I did like the feel of the top mounted pocket clip of the We in the hand though.
Think I’ll happily add a few more Sebenzas to the collection eventually: they are more my thing... but I’m still looking for something a bit more fidgety to mess around with as well, but for me the Visions are not it. Luckily theres plenty of options out there.

I have all 3 and I prefer to carry the Civivi in ultem. Mainly because my WE is the damasteel version that lives in my safe lol. The pocket clip is pretty weird on the WE also. Civivi’s heat treat on their Nitro V is 2nd to none.
To be fair, i think the main reason the civivis have the better design is because they're the newer model. It would be cool to see a premium Vision-FG in the future though.

Lock face geometry is why, you can have 2 similar locks and one strong one weak from the geometry of the lock face, the value would go down unless you got an actual Snex design but it's hard to say for sure some pieces like this sometimes surprise you
The We clip is killer and won't scratch your car. It's almost a hidden carry which is fantastic where I live.

I love the looks and prive of the civivi version. I dont like the look of that spine mounted pocket clip on the WE. It just seems so unproductive, inefficient, and awkward. I love the look of the flytanium arcade which has the shark lock. I think that is a really cool knife too.

Suehiro 8000w grit
King 6000 grit
King 4000 grit
Shapton rockstar 2000 grit (new version on Shapton glass)
King deluxe 1000 grit
Atoma 400 grit
Should I buy some stone for more, to make better mirror edge than like I have.
Now I look at Shapton kuromaku 12000 grit but I'm not sure if that's better than Suehiro 8000.

if you want the best its not going to be from Japan but i like King from Japan, however only for chef or simple steels never for high grade steels, in that case you want diamond, my favorite is resin bonded or metal bonded diamond i have tons of sharpening videos, but i would stay away from the Naniwa Super stones, go with there resin bonded that would be the best from Japan

Have you noticed the detent is kinda weak I noticed that if you whip the knife up and down the blade opens up and locks doesnt even that that much force?
Yeah they don't use a traditional detent so it's on the lighter side, however the studs make it work well, Tactile has the Chupacabra that has a decent detent with same lock

My FG came with a sqeak. A tiny drop of knife lube on the spring fixed it.

My experience with the Civivi Damascus was on the factory edge, the tip went flat quick from utility cuts.

I like my vision fg, but Mine has a pretty weak detent and the blade can easily be deployed with a downward flick of the arm. Also, it's not very comfortable on the finger to depress the lock. To me, it's a good knife and I'm happy with it, but not as good as the hype its gotten.
