It all depends. Remember, she's got her own practice and while I understand applying an American mentality to their relationship, the truth is that I'm sure she's fine (financially) without him.
That being said, when he build the house, it will, most likely, be in Jordan's name.

The reason why Americans brake up is because the culture here is all about money and forget the love part lol. In Latin America people are usually more patient and don't expect things to be done so fast. Labor in Mexico is cheap so I don't think money will be a big problem in this couple so go head and do you.

Who hurt you so deep?... XD my parents built our current home and they never fought about it, basically because my mom took all decisions, dad just paid for all. At the end of the day my mom was the one who had time to supervise workers and had good taste, other thing that helped is that each one in family chose the paint, the bathroom and the furnitures of our own bedrooms.

As an off grid homeowner and a solar business owner, I encourage you to educate yourself about off grid living. Insulation and properly sized systems are the key to success. It takes a good upfront investment. Mexico is not a very green friendly country so if your considering a grid tie system be prepared for lots of hurdles

    • @gwynhigbee1318

@@JamesG1126 wow so defensive! I am educated about home building here in Mexico. Where we live in Mexico, the average home has an R value of 2 which is no where close to what it should be. It does not matter if hot or cold, insulation is everything for a solar home. More insulation keeps your home warm when it’s cold and cool when hot. Even in very temperat climate, insulation matters.

    • @tomv4145
      @tomv4145 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@MexicanOT-q8t we have a community well between appx 50 of us where we each pump water to our own storage tanks. Really kind of a rare setup. At our house, all gray water is diverted to gardening, and we collect off of our buildings the rain water (apps 6-10" rainfall a year). Kind of interesting is that the micro climate is what they call a "fog desert" - many mornings it looks like it rained but its all the condensation in the air. We get a lot of water in our tanks from that moisture, but not enough to get by on it alone. I do have friends nearby not connected to the well, and they truck in water from a ranch 10 miles away - I think they pay apps $100USD for 10,000 liters of water delivered

Just make sure you're not buying land that is part of an "ejido", it is possible to convert it to private land but there are more legal processes involved than buying just regular private land or "lotes", always check the status of the land that you're buying and get familiar with the community and terrain before making an offer

Jordan : I'm going to be completely honest with you:
You're interactions here with your new love interest is VERY inspiring.
What I mean is, you're still kind of awkward with her and the camera... BUT, I love that you gave in and compromised your lifestyle principles to try the candies of her childhood.
That speaks so much to how much she means to you. I love it.
I also love her , almost innocent, demeanor in front of the camera.
The idea of building off-the-grid in Mexico,
    you're on to something.
If you DO create something and then document the process, you're bound to attract people (like me) who have the very same idea- but we don't know how to even begin the process.
You're a smart man. Business smart too.
Think of this venture like when a property venture company build Le a neighborhood out in the middle of nowhere. Soon after, malls will appear around it and so on.
Anyhow , look forward to seeing more of your life's adventures!

I got off grid it's great.
Biggest tip. Can give you is starting tiny and expand . Weather it's a house or a solar array or a battery bank
In building start with a kitchen and bathroom because they need more things like plumbing a place to sleep or hang out is easy.
I started with a tiny house now we have two acres with five structures . All solar power.
Hit me up if you have any weird off-grid questions. It is the way.

Not sure if this is an option, but maybe consider looking into building a passive house (it's a very energy efficient type of home). Many people are interested in where they get their energy from (i.e. the supply side of the equation like solar or geothermal), whereas passive house construction looks more at decreasing the energy demand. Lots of videos all over youtube about passive house design/construction.

In risk management we say that correlation does not mean causation. In other words don't assume that more roadside memorials mean more deaths than other areas. There could be many reasons for that. Actually the memorials might even REDUCE accident rates if people see the consequences of driving too fast! These memorials and the way Mexico celebrates the Day of the Dead seem to me to be a much healthier way to look at death, which is just part of life.
In regards to an off the grid house, I have been checking out the Tehachapi area in California on the way to Vegas. Many off the grid houses and lots are available and some are very cheap too but often for a very good reason. "Off the Grid" is a nice way to say "absolutely no utilities available for a house in the middle of nowhere on a dirt road." It's one thing to visit these places but you MUST imagine what it would be like to live in a place that is convenient for nothing, especially if you have kids some day.
Back to risk management, what worries me the most in Tehachapi is the EXTREME FIRE HAZARD in the area. Is that a problem in the areas you are visiting in Mexico? Also what are insurance rates? They can be shocking in areas in the US because of fire (e.g. in California) or hurricane risks (e.g. in Florida). Not something you want to find out after you buy a lot. Of course the type of construction using bricks in Mexico might reduce the fire risk but it also might increase earthquake risk. Just saying that risk management should be addressed before and during the construction of a house. Waiting until after a disaster is way too late.
Oh and having a proper septic system can be a real nightmare too. Basically you are building a sewage treatment plant in your back yard! These septic systems can be many times more expensive if your lot also has a natural spring. As a consequence, buying lots in Tehachapi can be a nightmare if the land you are looking at does not pass a "perc" (percolation) test. I learned from a local expert on the matter that it is important to get at least an acre of land so that you have more flexibility as to where to position the house and your septic system. I don't know if Mexico has the experience or infrastructure to deal with building and cleaning septic systems. In Brazil many moons ago I bought a house that just dumped the sewage on top of a neighbor's farm land! Not a problem until it is. And of course don't forget to make sure water is available for drinking on your land. Wells aren't cheap either but dry wells are even worse. A lot to think about (pun intended) before buying land for an off the grid house.

I've driven around 2700 miles through the Southern half of Mexico... My best guess is that the accidents were Animals in the roadway at night... I once saw a Mule that was literally bent in half that had been hit. In the mountains near Morelia I have photos of a huge bull laying in the grass 3 feet off the road as you rounded a very sharp curve.
