Hey! I’m really enjoying your solo videos TBH. The cauliflower looked amazing! I did want to ask a couple question. I clicked on your link for the cameras you use. Can you tell me which one you use the most or which one you about this video with? Also, what do you use to edit your videos please? Btw, I’ve been to La Malquerida several times myself and everything happening there is very sad.

Thanks, Jennie! This is the camera I'm using in this video because it's the only one we have that does well in low light: amzn.to/3e5VOLy
Maddie has used iMovie to edit most of our videos but now we have a professional editor doing the videos. He probably uses premier pro or final cut pro but I haven't asked.

This is timely advice. A few weeks ago I booked an Airbnb in Tulum. I immediately started feeling uncomfortable. I started doing research and realized that there have been many shootings and that the drug cartels are fighting over the whole Riviera Maya, but especially the big cities. I couldn't cancel my Airbnb so I am going to take the loss and spend another week in Puerto Morelos. It's also very crowded in Tulum and I prefer the Smaller city.

But the way countries like Mexico are Shown by the media makes it seem like it’s the worst place in the world and the U.S is safe. Greenboro has a population of 299,000 and by North Carolina standards that is a big city. Tulum has under 50k people. Not really comparable. I live in a city of less than 10k in California, and I don't lock my doors or my car, nothing ever happens. However, I can't use that as an average either.

I live in Greensboro too. Marcos is right that there are big city problems here, but it is almost all focused in one area which is east Greensboro. Unfortunately, with the media reporting all doom and gloom it seems like this is a growing issue in many parts of the US. Not sure if the stats support that feeling, but I’m thinking they do. We are short over 100 officers in our city and there are many times when the police are called and 10-100 is broadcast which means no available officer to respond.

You are right about Tulum. There is a battle going on right now over the low-level dealers affiliated with different cartels. Many of these dealers work in restaurants and hotels used by tourists so there is serious danger of finding yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time. My wife was living and working in Tulum but I brought her back to Cuernavaca specifically because of the danger.

In México, there is this clase of drinks where you take a fruit, extract the juice, and then dilute significantly. Let's say 1 liter of orange juice and you add 4 liters of water. By the time you add the water, you've diluted the sugar 5 times, and it now has 4.8g/8 oz. From there, it's typical to add lots of ice and that dilutes it even more, so sugar is added necessarily because most people prefer more sweetness.

If you google about, you’ll find that they’re not very appreciated by the locals as they have no interest in the culture apart from selling and hiring villagers to work (the women only speak a version of German). Thousand of them already left and moved to other communities like Canada or Belize because the cartels took an interest in them, and the government has been clamping down on their operations: they use a lot of pesticides, burn coal, do illegal logging and farming, including razing the jungle and protected ecological areas. It’s not about destroying tourism, it’s about taking over newly developed areas. Cancun, Tulum, etc are still brand new cities without established turfs. You’re still 50 times more likely to get shot and killed walking the streets of LA than just about any city in Mexico so take your racism elsewhere.

Cancun is also becoming problematic. You should be safe in the Zona HoteIera but you won't get the native experience. I winter in the area. It's a city. You will find people from all parts of Mexico seeking work/working. You also fine Cubans, Colombians and sort of Central / South Americans. I stayed in neighborhood. It was noisey day and night. Barking dogs, cat raping and fighting all night. Because I was alone and Gringo, never went out at night. I'm going back to Isla Mujeres. It's expensive but absolutely beautiful and safe. The people are nice.

Tulum has been invaded by competing drug gangs and peddlers of different stripes because there is a demand for it, i.e. customers from all over. Since the murder of two tourists recently we see the Guardia Nacional patrolling constantly on foot and on their trucks. Is it safe? Now it seems like it is. Like this guy told me a few days ago: Europe is shut down, Ibiza was the favorite drug destination and now, due to the cheap airline fares and hostels there is an abundance of takers.... Is the Guardia Nacional here to stay? Who knows
