- This video is about a sad origin story of SCP-096 The Shy Guy.
SCP 096 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as The Shy Guy
SCP-096 is a humanoid creature measuring approximately 2.38 meters in height. When someone views SCP-096's face, whether it be directly, via video recording, or even a photograph, it will enter a stage of considerable emotional distress. SCP096 will cover its face with its hands and begin screaming, crying, and babbling incoherently. Approximately one (1) to two (2) minutes after the first viewing, SCP-096 will begin running to the person who viewed its face (who will from this point on be referred to as SCP-096-1).

So 096 covers his face from trauma because he feels the gaze of ordinary people are the same as King of the Mountain. And each time anyone looks at him, he is reminded of his trauma but instead of despair he feels pure rage because he wants vengeance against the one who turned him into this monster. He has to kill anyone who looks at him because to him they're the same thing as SCP 1529. At least that's what I think is the reason he must kill them.
I don't think it's trauma. SCP-096 hasn't realized the encounter is over. He's still living in that moment. As far as he is concerned, he is still protecting his face from SCP-1529 with no intentions of ever giving in and accepting the "gift." He lacks either the intelligence or the clarity to recognize that anyone who looks at him isn't the King of Mountains (also, given that SCP-1529 just looks like a person with goggles + white clothes, _anyone_ could be the King of the Mountain - just in a different outfit). However, the Shy Guy is no longer bound by the paralytic effect of the King of the Mountain, so now he physically lashes out to reject the gift. That's how I interpreted it anyways.

Meh. I like Dr. Bob's take on the story better. In that version, the climber was tortured for years on end, forced to endlessly climb the mountain and feel the slow, agonizing process of his body slowly changing the higher up he went, all while the king glares down at him, with the reason he lashes out at those who see his face being that he still sees and feels the eyes of the mountain king with every pair of eyes that glimpses him. Here, it's just sort of... Okay, you're a monster now, bye!

I still don't understand how the King on the mountain made his bones indestructible and gave him the power to sense when his face was seen. Honestly, it would make more sense if sarkics made 096.Orok is almost the exact same kind of monster as the shy guy, only he's not scared.
in order too climb a mountain you gotta have hella body strength and in order to do so you have to have bone density too so when the mountain king said ill make you part of the mountain he made it so no torment that the mountain could give like the cold or the strenuous climbing would be able to kill him
in short the mountain king did as he promised and made him better at climbing

@@scientistsupreme5211 we’ve never seen what the mountain king can truly do and it can most likely do these things as we’ve seen it mess with peoples brains before is it a long shot that it could also manipulate the brain to make drastic changes to the body?

It's said that he said that all he wanted to do was to climb and so the Mountain King tortured him for years expanding the reality around him to make him climb and climb and climb till his body distorted itself into what's known today. The man who ended up being known as The Shy Guy is constantly crying over his horrible and irreversible fate as his eyes and mind only have one single image that still terrifies his very core: The horrible eyes of the Mountain King. His hatred for the entity grew and grew to the point that he sees any gaze, from anywhere in the world as the king's gaze.
When he's looked at, he sees his eyes, he feels the hatred coming back, he feels the pain and he won't stop until the king is destroyed. Thus the immortal being chases his victims to get rid of the haze's feeling.
Dr. Bob made a more detailed video, I did made it sound different but this theory is simply one of the best since it's another story where an SCP is created by another scp

well technically there is not much the foundation now’s about him offer than he lets his victims choose between a quick warm death or a icy slow and painful death that most of angered so much he decided to turn him into 096 I mean he could have that ability but we just don’t now because it’s not like the scp foundation can actually catch him it is like finding a needle in a haystack

Honestly prefer the story from dr bob similar but he endured centuries of torment climbing the face of the mountain as he refused the first gift as he only wanted to climb and the king maliciously granted it and his body was transformed because of it and forever after he only saw they burning gaze of the king in his mind when anyone looked upon his face.
I guess SCP-1529 must be a powerful reality warper of some sort, kind of similar to SCP-343 to be able to create an Immortal, Inhuman being like SCP-096. Though I know this origin story is only a theory, but it seems to be the one that is most widely accepted in regards to how SCP-096 came to exist.

Agreed, otherwise SCP-1529 could create more instances of SCP-096 should more Mountaineer’s venture Mount Everest. Which would be devastating if enough instances of SCP-096 multiplied, made it to a populated area, was seen, had their picture taken and posted on social media, etc. That would be an XK end of the world scenario.

I apologize if this has already been addressed. I was wondering how does it react to a blind person or someone who was distracted, what if,someone sees it on a video monitor or behind a two-way mirror...what I guess I'm asking is if it KNOWS when it's seen and by who ? Or does it go after people it thinks have/could've seen it ?
It will not go after blind people. It will go after anybody that sees four pixels of his face in photos or videos. If anyone does not look at his face or is incapable of looking at his face (because at least one of their faces are covered) he will not attack. That is why he's sealed inside of an airtight steel container with no portholes to look in.
Distracted? Death. Blind? Didn't see his face. It knows when it has been seen. And it knows where the awful thing that saw its face is.

A sad origin of SCP 096, but worse when discovering that SCP 1529 had to see how Jack became SCP 096, although it is surprising that it was not part of the mountain
Jack actually went to a non real everest and kept climbing for his will after telling the mountain king that he just wants to climb after the mountain king asked him what do you want and because he climbed so much his limbs and muscles stretched and because of the cold his bones(skeleton) became indestructible

I wouldn’t be surpised if 096 being bullied for his looks is why he is how he is now honestly considering the dumb canon backstories in some SCPs.
But this theory is really damn good, though I don’t think 096 sees everyone’s gaze as the same as the mountain king’s, he just really really hates being looked at after what he did, and he’s so hungry and skinny and so low on blood sugar that he’s literally HANGRY everytime he feels the slightest bit of anger or strong feeling, being looked at gives him so much regret and anger that he literally rages out of hanger xD

My wager is that it's some kind of quantum monster; it feels pain and agony the moment its face is observed, because the act of observing it makes it exist. Before that point, the pain and agony he feels is in a kind of Schrodinger's quantum state of existing and not existing.. even observing it through a photo quantifies it.
