Test driving the 1DX Mark II this weekend, specifically for video applications. First impressions are fantastic. The autofocus capabilities rival the A6500 and the 4K quality is unlike any other DSLR I've seen.

I was thinking to buy the canon 1dxs mak II. But the other day I realise that there is a crop factor in 4k video mode. Do you find any type of difficulties with this?? Is it a big difference in the lenses comparing with non crop factor?
It is the same crop factor as Super 35. No issues at all.
Really love the colors. I'd buy a LUT from you.
i've watched this like 5 times. totally epic. Only input i could give is that if you held the scene at 0:07 for a few seconds longer. It would have had a much bigger impact.

simon gentry It's a little harder than I'm used to, especially since there is no LOG setting on the camera. I do love Canon's color science though!
You used a non-native lens and the autofocusing still worked? Amazing. Any chance the DPAF will do the same on the 5DMKIV?
The Sigma 50 has a Canon EF mount- a native lens. I would assume the dual pixel AF would be just as good!
Hey Robert! Did you notice noise in the shadows even at iso 100 when using the 1DX II? I keep getting enough that I need to use neat video on everything.. It is much worse in 1080p 24p/120p than in 4k. It even happens on my cam when I over expose a bit. Using the faithful or neutral profile with contrast and saturation turned down with sharpness down almost all the way.
I haven't noticed anything too terrible. I can't remember what ISO I shot this video at, but certainly nothing that required Neat Video. I personally never used the camera in 1080p since it looks like any other subpar DSLR footage.
Ya.. I think I need to send mine in for service. It didn't do it this bad when I first had the camera. I ran it really hot one day, I think it might have cooked the sensor or something lol

Great video! A couple questions:
1) what picture profile did you shoot on?
2) how did you handle editing with those huge mjpeg files?
1. This was shot in 'Neutral' with sharpening turned all the way down.
2. I have a beefy editing rig. Handled it no prob. I actually did a live stream of the edit: bit.ly/2sLzaRN
you can use proxy files, premier pro even has a live link proxy editing feature now (meaning you could edit 16k video on a slow laptop no problem)

Thanks! This video was done entirely with autofocus.
Robert Machado cool! Why use the Sigma 50 over the canon 50 1.2 L? Is the Sigma sharper ?
I have just preferred Sigmas since the Art series came out. I have a few other lenses in that line so it's nice having them match.
How does you DGS Glidecam hold up the 1DX? Do you have any issues with the adjustable gimbal sliding up due to the weight?
It was a treat. The DGS handled the 1DX just fine and can handle even more weight without a sweat.

5d does the exact same thing. What confuses people is they think it is the camera. Really it is not. If you can operate the thing and pick the shots that is what is making it beautiful. This is why another person using the same camera is getting terrible quality making people think it is the camera.

I’m also a photographer choosing between the 1DXII & GH5 for video/photo. As a 1DXII vlogger yourself, I’d love to ask you a couple questions - namely: I just got my 1DXII yesterday, and am wondering how do you vlog with USM lenses like the 24-70 f2.8l II? Seth Alexander Hey guys - I appreciate the support, but honestly, it's all good. Trust me, I've stuttered all my life and I've just started to really get control of my speech in the last three years - I've heard much worse before.
Now I'm leading an organization of "stutterers helping stutterers" that spans the USA and Canada, helping other people who stutter to gain the ability to speak eloquently and to overcome their fear of speaking. It's the third business I've started, and it's by far the most meaningful thing I've ever done. And it's awesome.
Robert has a lot of skill, and I'm sure we can all learn things from him. I'm trying to create a channel that uses my story and passion for helping others to inspire people to do whatever they've always wanted to do.
