    • @aloikari7745
      @aloikari7745 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Great song, great vocals all around, and Mike was a prolific songwriter, although he didn't write this one. I think a buddy of his did. The secret weapon musician of the band was actually Peter. He was proficient on multiple instruments - electric guitar, fingerstyle acoustic, keyboards (Bach to Jerry Lee Lewis), bass, 5 string banjo, French horn, maybe others. His musicianship is often obscured by his dim-witted personna needed for the TV show character. Live performances revealed his talents.

    • @kevinheffernan6729
      @kevinheffernan6729 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@magneto7930, I don’t have any direct information or evidence on this, and I hope that historians examining the economic aspects of their career can eventually clear things up, but it seems that Colgems generally limited single releases to their more upbeat songs (the irony of “Pleasant Valley Sunday” notwithstanding) and showcased their darker and more mature material as deep cuts on the LPs. “Sleeping” walks the tightrope between these two modes and probably seemed like an unsafe bet to the suits.
      Again, where are you historians? We need to find out!

    Wonderful! Who said The Monkees were a cartoon band? They were always way, way more than that. and it is both joyful and poignant to watch this marvellous performance knowing that Mike Nesmith has since died. He looks so healthy, happy and full of joie-de-vivre here. I have always loved Door Into Summer with its gentle, trippy vibe and its colourful psychedelic imagery. Like an instant magic carpet ride back to 1967 when the world was young and the hippy dream was alive and well.
    Great to see Mickey Dolenz too. Now the last member left to us. He is the guardian of their wonderful legacy. and will be so in his always gracious, articulate and considered way.

    This was the concert of a lifetime for me because I never got to see them when I was younger. Thank you, thank you for sharing while we're all stuck at home. Stay safe everyone!

    Damn! That was good. No. That was great! The layers of different instruments so clear they resonate with perfection. Nez's sang it true to the record with back up singers perfect pitch. I'm going to rate this my all time favorite Monkees song! I saw them in 86 at the Forum but don't remember much. I wish I could've seen them again and again. Thank goodness for TH-cam!!

    What a great recreation of that awesome 67 hit; and Mike sounds the same too; what an awesome talented group; they still got it !!

    yep 2 yrs later, gotta keep it in my repertoire. it gives me chils, a performance where the bands on fire the singing is to the record, the harmonizing is beautiful spot on. and lastly, the joy it brought nez

    I love this song! It's definitely one of my favorite Monkees songs. Pisces was a great album, along with Headquarters, the 2 essentials!

      Well, there's a lot of great music on all of their albums, but those 2 represent much of their own creativity as a group.

      @@magneto7930 Also having The Turtles' bass player ,Chip Douglas, producing and sometimes playing bass on both albums was a very god fit.

    Thanks for posting! I heard Mike sing this song LIVE at Humphries by the Bay in San Diego. 2013 I believe? Mike, Micky and Peter were on tour. It's a terrific song! One of my favorites from Pieces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. FUN FACT: On the recorded version of this song Mike sings lead (obviously), and Micky Dolenz is on drums. Both do the song proud.

    Its one of their deeper tracks but I've always loved this song !! I had a stack of Monkees 45s back in the day. Will never forget how special it was (and still is).

    This is an amazing live performance, with Mike, Mickey, Mickey’s sister, and Mike’s daughter in the chorus. Pleasant Valley Sunday was the hit on the fourth Monkees album, but this was really the best song on the record

      Mike's daughter-in-law, Circe Link, a great artist in her own right.

      Her voice in the high end harmony here is certainly very good.
