Starscream's backstory took inspiration from his aligned continuity one. XD
also the idea of the Matrix of Leadership being linked to the Transformers' source of life, in this case enabling the flow of Energon on Cybertron, coming from one of its earliest depictions in Marvel's G1 comics as the Creation Matrix, responsible for giving life to new Transformers
Also, the concept of a techno-organic Cybertron has only ever been done before in Beast Machines, which despite its questionable reputation, was a super ambitious cartoon for the time. It’s great to see concepts from that get explored.

@@John-ii6hethey will probably get their fill in later movies. Honestly shockwave needs a good film appearance. He's an entirely different and better character from the gen1 version. . And he's never fully used in bayverse at all
I think Starscream did an important role in the story. He introduced D-16 to a new life philosophy when he was at his lowest. D-16 was just shown that everything he believed in was a lie and now all he wanted was to shoot Sentinel in the face. Then Starscream comes in and straight up tells him that only the strong gets to make decisions around his group. When D-16 and starscream were brawling, starscream did what he did best and tried to bring D-16 down to his level. You can see how ineffective D-16's hit were, Starscream was literally laughing at his punches even when D-16 was powered up by a T-Cog (Which can also be a funny way to show Starscream's unnatural resistance). It was only a matter of time before Starscream turned the tables around D-16 only for the unexpected to happen. D-16 picked up what Starscream was putting down. He liked being the top dog. He liked being cheered on as he was beating up a pathetic Starscream. And with his new gun arm cannon he now showed that he was THE top dog that gets to boss the other bots around.
This movie did Optimus Prime justice, in Micheal Bay movies Optimus was always portrayed as a stoic warrior who will always do what needs to be done but they never show his empathic side in those movies. Transformers One handles both aspects of Optimus Prime's character in a balanced way.
@@dannychief88It would’ve worked better, if TF2 and TF3 were switched. His development into brutality would’ve worked better that way, they could even done him falling apart a bit as a leader to lead into the next trilogy. Bayverse Prime is badass, but he falls flat as an Optimus.

I went to a Fathom screening of The Transformers: The Movie in 2018 that had a featurette for Bumblebee preceding it. It convinced me to see Bumblebee and unlocked my investment in the franchise. So to get to an early screening of Transformers One felt right. And it was a fantastic movie. It moved so briskly too
I was so happy to attend an early screening last week. Genuinely still obsessed especially as such a huge TF fan. Just the way they handled delivering the lore, the way they handled the characters, the brotherly bond slowly crumbling apart, down to the more political social cast system aspect they weren’t even afraid to shine away from, it’s all so well done. Like it’s not only just a great entry for newcomers, but also just a great transformers story. Oh how I love this and TMNT mutant mayhem exist.

I pretty much have checked out of this movie months ago because I thought it was going to be trash, all the positive reviews rolling in are making me want to go see it in theaters now! Great video!
I just watched this movie yesterday and I loved it! Been watching and reading a lot of Transformers stuff to prepare for this movie to see what inspo they took. And its very apparent they did their research/people who worked on this movie are already fans of the franchise. They even got the composer who did the wcore for Transformers Prime.
What I liked about the ONE movie is that they took bits of lore from various incarnations and mashed it together in a way that gave a nudge to these various continuities. It’s not any particular one of them, but they basically gave some appreciation for, in-jokes relating to and thereby respect for: - G1/G2 comics (Marvel (UK)/DreamWave (War Within) and IDW (mines) written by Simon Furman) - G1 Cartoon / Movie - Including G1 Powermasters and Headmasters and cogless TFs are basically Actionmasters - Beast Wars / Beast Machines (Blackarachnia tribute and some others) - TransFormers Prime (including for instance the attitude and some design schemes for Sentinel Prime) - TransFormers movies (references to Bumblebee’s talking too much and being shut up) - TransFormers videogames (some designs and how the roads and tracks work with nanites building them en route) And probably missing some. You could instantly recognize a wide range of G1 Autobots and Decepticons in the miner and elite guard crowds. Similar colour schemes and design features instantly giving them away. Where some were of relatively obscure bots like Ricochet / Stepper, previously known repaints rather than just drone copies (Beast Machines style). That goes for the Seekers too, with quite a few repaints and iirc fembots (including seekers) being represented. All in all, it was a movie that did justice to the fanbase as a whole, where the Bay life action movies were rather denigrating in attitude towards both fans and many bots. Let alone the style of jokes and racism included. The movie was - like TransFormers origin stories often have been - a story about societal struggles and hierarchy against a corrupt ruling class and extremely ruthless, fascist foreign occupation (Quintessons) and how different factions fight that to replace it with their either democratic benevolent governance (Autobots) or autocratic self-serving dominance (Decepticons) and everyone caught up in between. In comparison, the live action movies are mostly about xenophobia, graphic violence, government / military greed and exploitation of new tech and the impact on humans with little to no care for the robots and their motivations, struggles and legacy characterizations. And yes, they all have McGuffins and in some cases a Deus ex Machina upgrade or event that is used to win the movie. That’s nothing new, that’s also the one thing I didn’t like about how Optimus got the Matrix of Leadership in this one, granted by the deity himself as a Chosen One, rather than passed on more organically. Ah well, can’t have it all.
Just saw this a few days ago and it really delivered. It had comedy but never let that overshadow the dramatic moments, more just used it to add some levity to scenes that didn't have too much else going on. From what I heard when Hemsworth was first approached for the role, even he said, "Why not just get Peter Cullen?" But once he agreed he also said he didn't want to just imitate Peter's performance because he knew fans would not react well. But you can tell he really drew on the heart of who Cullen made Optimus Prime to be. On top of that I think they really got the idea that the boundless optimism Orion Pax had could be transitioned into the leadership we know Optimus Prime for. That optimism, tempered with wisdom could give us, "Hang on to your dreams, Chip. The future is built on dreams. Hang on." Even the little things, like how much bigger Orion was from all the other miners when he returned to rally them. Really showing how much they lost when they didn't have their T-Cogs. In that scene you could pick out a few more familiar faces like Arcee and Brawn. That kind of attention is like catnip for G1 fans like me.
@@TheZodiacKiller-bn3ox Right. I just picked two I particularly picked up on. My comment would have been so much longer if I listed off all the recognizable characters. I mean, LEAKING LUBRICANTS!
I only got into the transformers fan club this year, my friend who is a transformers superfan got me to watch the first season of the 80s cartoon., G1 I think is what he called it. He begged my friend group for us all to go see this. And it was a blast. We loved it, Him as a super fan, me as a new fan along with my other friend. Ive never seen the michael bay films and he told me not to watch them. so this was my first transformers movie. G1 would be the correct term there, because many series and movies came after so you gotta specify which one you mean at times Also the megatron origin story is largely lifted from Idw publishing 2005 comics.

Focusing solely on the transformers, a very well written story (always wanted to better understand transformers lore), amazing animation.. I could go on I can’t wait for what’s to come!
Technically Transformers is the third Animated Transformers film , the second was 'Transformers Prime Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising' though that was never a theatrical release.
Hey I was born in 05, I liked the Bayverse 2007 one, the rise of the fallen and dark of the moon, I thought they were the coolest thing. I just saw Transformers one yesterday and oh my God. I grew up to love movies because a lot of my childhood is watching movies and a lot of my influence was cartoons and animation. My first ever pixar movie was Toy story 1 This movie was... Oh my mann this is so good. This is the best of all of them but if we're talking in categories, this is the number 1 in the animated category and to the franchise as a whole, this is at the top and the Live action Bee at second. I literally shed a tear when I got to see Optimus in Orion Pax when he inspired his Miner family. It was so good
I will say that the first movie is what introduced me to Transformers when I was little. Optimus was amazing to me back then and I remember loving his care for humans which made him my favorite character before later sequels ruined him completely for me. But all that being said I feel 2007 still holds up and is a great movie.
I was never big on transformers and all the movies I had seen up to that point were just mid. But this, I like this. It had me laughing several times during the movie, I hadn't seen the trailer or anything so I was going in fully blind and I loved it.
I remember the bayverse just for the action and not much else, but TFone from start to end feels and looks like it was made from the heart and just not another cash grab, and the TFhype guy on twitter doing 2018 LeBron numbers promoting the film for free hahha
I feel like this is one of those rare times where you can really imagine the idea of a younger voice growing into their more iconic version. I could totally imagine Chris Hemsworth's Optimus growing into Peter Cullen's Optimus.
I hate to pick a favorite transformers movie but this film was perfect. I have to place it at number 1. No humans, great animation, great story, made me tear up, great character developmemt and music. Great worldbuilding and voice acting. 10/10!
When i first the trailer, this movie managed to peak my interest. And when i finally watch it, it manage to blow my mind so bad to the point my hand starts shaking because of the awesomeness
I do somewhat disagree with your opinion on the voice cast. I think they're just... fine for the most part. There were definitely a lot of moments though where you feel like these are, in fact, younger versions of the legendary nemeses. Maybe it's me being so used to the original voice actors, but I would like to see more of Hemsworth as Optimus to get a real opinion.
I kept saying to myself “this movie can’t get better” as I watched it. It kept getting better. I was blown away. I was nearly jumping out of my seat like my kids were. Great movie
The trailers did not do this justice. When I first saw it, it felt like it was going for a comedy approach with a bit of Disney flair which made me disinterested in it. Heard friends say it was good and decided to go see it and it really is an incredible movie. The only thing I would say is don’t watch any trailers for this movie besides the first one as it kinda spoilers everything
I'd like your review of the movie but not of Orion. There was no call at all for what D-16 did to his true friend. A friend who went to bat for him and was building him up for greatness. Orion truly cared for D-16.
The problem of all of the Bayverse movies vs One is not that they have humans. It is that the movies are poorly written , have no respect for the source material and lack art direction. Bumblebee is effectively an Iron Giant clone, and RoTB couldn't convince me to buy. It doesn't matter if they have top talent in CG artists, actors and music because the end experience was largely sardonic and colourless. It didn't matter who half of the bots were because they would be dumpstered in 30 minutes. The Bayverse simply did not understand characters, visually or otherwise. One is the complete opposite not because it has no humans, but because the people writing it actually cared and were invested in the world. Animated, Prime and Earthspark absolutely have good human characters. If sequels to One do eventually reach Earth as a setting I'm sure they will handle it correctly based on how they've handled things so far.
The only thing that truly felt wrong when I saw this in theaters was how few people turned outz this is a very good movie. It's made with clear intentionality in how it uses the lore and characters to it's advantage. Character work was amazing. It's also a story that most of the time is saved for flashbacks, glad to see it as the introduction. It also fits perfectly into the aligned continuity, which is best continuity.
I took the family to see it yesterday and we all loved it! The only Transformers movie I've seen to rival the G1 movie I saw as a kid. In all the reviews I've watched, I'm surprised there hasn't been any mention of the glorious synthwave/retrowave aesthetic on the surface, as seen at 7:54
the goofy, campy. but memorable and well-structured dialogue on top of a nice coming of age story on animated machine people, unironically reminds me of the old Bionicle movies.

Im one of those G1 kids that saw the original cartoon film in theaters and couldn't believe what had happened. Michael Bay's Transformer films are not only disrespectful to the fans and mythos, but they're obnoxiously immature and down right stupid at times. I had no interest in this film and then saw the trailer and blew it off. Didn't like the look. Like dude here says, seemed like just bad one liner back n' forth junk. But word of mouth got me to see it and Transformers One is the first Transformers movie since the one they came out in 1986. So much smarter, better characters, and the action sequences are so much more creative and awesome than any of the CGI metallic junk barfing in the Bay films. Some shots reminded of Dune. Very sci-fi. Classism/power struggle. Really great. Remind me of when I saw the first Into the Spider Verse in theaters.

Don’t worry with time he’ll learn to love these characters
I think Starscream was only in the movie to say “He’s out here in the world, get ready”.
I like that it sets up starscream, honestly. But I do agree he, shockwave and soundwave kinda got the shortest end of the stick. But there will be sequels, so we can expect more and it be justified.
@@John-ii6he It almost felt like Yoda’s Kashyyk visit in Revenge of the Sith
@@John-ii6hethey will probably get their fill in later movies. Honestly shockwave needs a good film appearance. He's an entirely different and better character from the gen1 version. . And he's never fully used in bayverse at all
@@_aWiseMan I kinda wish for his Senator Shockwave backstory, but I guess it wouldn't work with miner Orion and all Primes present.
It's because Optimus in the bayverse is far older and more battle experienced, which is why he lost his sense of humor and is super stoic 24/7.
@@dannychief88exactly
@@dannychief88It would’ve worked better, if TF2 and TF3 were switched. His development into brutality would’ve worked better that way, they could even done him falling apart a bit as a leader to lead into the next trilogy. Bayverse Prime is badass, but he falls flat as an Optimus.
@@NFLJarhead Yeah when i think of optimus i think of Transformers Prime Optimus but when i think of a badass leader willing to do what's right even if it means not pulling punches then i would think bayverse.
I honestly thought this movie was gonna be lightyear 2.0. But now im hearing all these positive reviews saying its as good as spider-verse. I guess you can say this is why you can never judge a book by its cover

As good as Spider-Verse? Not for me. But I can say it's the best Transformers movie (and I love the newest live action ones the most). The 86 movie will always be the most iconic of the bunch but I think this is the best one for the story, plus it's always something I've wanted to see in a movie since I watched Transformers Prime earlier this year and heard the retelling (same composer as this movie and he even used a song from it in the film).
Don't believe it mang. If you see all the ads for it, the large quotes have tiny print for who's giving it a thumbs up. Nah, maybe it's a thumbs up for 3 yr olds. But that's it. Might as well have had Taika Wa Titi direct this ish
Eh I liked Lightyear but I’m glad this is getting a more positive reaction.
Right after the 2nd end credit scene, some random girl enthusiastically yelled out, "I love Transformers!"
I'm not gonna lie, I looked to see what she looked like because she sounded like a real keeper.
I really hope for everyone’s sake it was an adult
The trailers did not make me want to see this originally. But I planned on seeing it with my son. We were blown away. Such a well done movie and pay tribute to the original fans like myself.
The marketing was terrible.
The only reason i didnt see the film, was because of the trailer's delivery. Now after hearing your review, ill be seeing it
I was turned off by the trailer as well. But I'm a Transformers fan so I'll go see pretty much anything with the name slapped on it. Even the trash movies I saw them all.
But this was good. Very, very good.

I grew up Transformers since '84. Saw the movie in '86. I've been literally waiting 40 for this movie. A great prequel to the original series. Awesome times.
I tried as best as i could going into this movie blind (seen the first teaser only) and when Starscream spoke and it was old timer how you doin fellow kids voice it was THE BEST THING IVE SEEN IN A VERY LONG TIME…pretty much sums up the movie
You got me with the 80s Tr animated movie Theme~ tears every time i hear that
“BADASSATRON”
This movie is PG, it’s not an 80s PG and it’s not a Puss In Boots last wish PG but, I like that they take advantage of it a little.
Yeah, stuff like "my finger can transform" was brilliant.
This is peak to the core. Fantastic story, rad character developement, and fun visual, everything you asked for is here!
Not to mention that color is back. I liked some live action transformers designs but seeing a bright red Optimus prime is where it’s at
The fact that the last feature length animated film was little less than 40 years ago is insane.
Hate to be that guy, but there was a Japanese exclusive beast wars movie released in 1998, plus predacons rising from 2013 so it's really just 11 years

@@austinmichael3086 It’s Transformers one Lol
For me:
1. Transformers One
2. Bumblebee (2018)

And the other movies are OK to meh.
Transformers One easily the best. I would place Transformers 2007 over Bumblebee.
I've seen this movie today with my friend. As a transformers fan since birth, I absolutely loved it. The explaining in this movie is so good that my friend, who didn't know anything about transformers francise (except for the fact that movies made by Michael Bay) and he said to me, that now he wanna dig deeper into franchise and lore. Absolute cinema, 11/10

I pretty much have checked out of this movie months ago because I thought it was going to be trash, all the positive reviews rolling in are making me want to go see it in theaters now! Great video!
Welcome to the family.

we supposed to be getting two more of these
If transformers one is a succes that is

This movie was soooo amazing!!!
1:20 two minor bots💀
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What I liked about the ONE movie is that they took bits of lore from various incarnations and mashed it together in a way that gave a nudge to these various continuities. It’s not any particular one of them, but they basically gave some appreciation for, in-jokes relating to and thereby respect for:
- G1/G2 comics (Marvel (UK)/DreamWave (War Within) and IDW (mines) written by Simon Furman)
- G1 Cartoon / Movie
- Including G1 Powermasters and Headmasters and cogless TFs are basically Actionmasters
- Beast Wars / Beast Machines (Blackarachnia tribute and some others)
- TransFormers Prime (including for instance the attitude and some design schemes for Sentinel Prime)
- TransFormers movies (references to Bumblebee’s talking too much and being shut up)
- TransFormers videogames (some designs and how the roads and tracks work with nanites building them en route)
And probably missing some.
Hang on."
Even the little things, like how much bigger Orion was from all the other miners when he returned to rally them. Really showing how much they lost when they didn't have their T-Cogs. In that scene you could pick out a few more familiar faces like Arcee and Brawn. That kind of attention is like catnip for G1 fans like me.
And Ironhide, don’t you forget about him.
They did an amazing job, and even with my limited lore knowledge I was able to appreciate all the nods and the optimus/megatron arcs/
i would say its a 9/10
Also. my theater wasn't very full, but everyone still applauded at the end.
G1 would be the correct term there, because many series and movies came after so you gotta specify which one you mean at times
Also the megatron origin story is largely lifted from Idw publishing 2005 comics.
For a full list of shows that came after the original we have
Beast wars
Beast machines (these two share a universe with the original cartoon)
Robots in disguise (2001) (first ever show reboot)
Armada
energon
Cybertron (these 3 form the unicron trilogy)

prime (this and the next 3 are in continuity with a bunch of books and games)
rescue bots
robots in disguise (2015)

As someone who was introduced to transformers from the Micheal bay movies, and genuinely liked them.
I must say, easily my favorite transformers movie ever. Focusing solely on the transformers, a very well written story (always wanted to better understand transformers lore), amazing animation.. I could go on
I can’t wait for what’s to come!
Technically Transformers is the third Animated Transformers film , the second was 'Transformers Prime Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising' though that was never a theatrical release.
Sucks that it's doing so bad at the box office.
Would love to see a sequel.
This movie literally turned someone who wasn’t a transformers fan, into someone who like begged me to rant about the lore
you weren't alone. my theatre applauded at the end of the movie too
Bay fans who to this day try to pretend that there was any semblance of character writing in the live action movies grind my gears
I remember seeing Bay fans really hating the Bumblebee movie which had more substance.
Not only that but a lot of em try to make excuses for how bad the writing got in later films

My first ever pixar movie was Toy story 1
This movie was...
It seems like this movie got done really dirty by a lack of marketing, and I'm glad to see fans picking up the slack and spreading the word about it.
I feel like this is one of those rare times where you can really imagine the idea of a younger voice growing into their more iconic version. I could totally imagine Chris Hemsworth's Optimus growing into Peter Cullen's Optimus.
Not only does it get transformers, it respects the material and did its very best to represent that
Imm cry everyone always forgets predacons rising
Not a theatrical release, more like an extended final episode
Do not let them near miners
An adventure truly more than meets the eye
🇨🇦 We can still se Sci-Fi animation in DBOX, Small town theatres, imax & Screen X, etc
I hate to pick a favorite transformers movie but this film was perfect. I have to place it at number 1. No humans, great animation, great story, made me tear up, great character developmemt and music. Great worldbuilding and voice acting. 10/10!
This movie is perfect I just Hope there will be sequel
When i first the trailer, this movie managed to peak my interest. And when i finally watch it, it manage to blow my mind so bad to the point my hand starts shaking because of the awesomeness
I had my doubts as a huge transformers fan, but im happy to see its a good transformers movie, cant wait to see it
I do somewhat disagree with your opinion on the voice cast.
Cant wait for more content!
I'd like your review of the movie but not of Orion. There was no call at all for what D-16 did to his true friend. A friend who went to bat for him and was building him up for greatness. Orion truly cared for D-16.
Thank God transformers is back, really hope sales go well
The problem of all of the Bayverse movies vs One is not that they have humans.
This was my first ever transformers movie and I LOVED IT. I hope we get a sequel soon.
In Megatron’s “i am Megatron” speech, he sounded like Kratos for a moment and it sent fucking shivers up my spine.
I’m pretty sure if D-16 had like a night to sleep on it, he would’ve mellowed out considerably
Dame I might actually watch this movie
Beautiful movie design with good writing, I pray that the sequel is worthy
My theater applaued too. And i live in Lithuania. First time i've ever heard this happen. And i've been working at a cinema for a while in the past.
First Sonic, now Transformers?! Hell yeah!
I took the family to see it yesterday and we all loved it! The only Transformers movie I've seen to rival the G1 movie I saw as a kid. In all the reviews I've watched, I'm surprised there hasn't been any mention of the glorious synthwave/retrowave aesthetic on the surface, as seen at 7:54
6:59 Maybe it's not the time for Starscream to shine...
I wish it's not G1 Starscream, but Armada Starscream
the goofy, campy. but memorable and well-structured dialogue on top of a nice coming of age story on animated machine people, unironically reminds me of the old Bionicle movies.
I never thought I would cry over robots, but here we are.
i love TF one now i watched it in streaming services for the first time
chris and brian did a great job voicing orion/optimus and D-16/Megatron
oh my favorite scene
Decepticons RISE UP!!!!!
I just hope there's a second part, and hopefully more than 2 parts in the future.
Stan bushes the touch saved my life
Transformers One and Bumblebee (possibly ROTB) got Transformers right
I love this movie. Seen it 3 times and it’s still awesome :)
Anyone else notice the christian theme when the hero wants to defeat his enemy and to free the captives and has to sacrifice himself and the Creator brings him back to life to defeat the enemy and set the captives free?! So awesome!
And things went wrong because they drifted away from Primus' will and Energon is the Water of Life.
I have watched this movie and I urge you to go and experience it. Its good writing and it needs your support in the box office.
I see, I appreciate that this turned out well enough,
Now, how would a Sequel be like?
I’m so glad I’m hearing so many good reviews of transformers one, I hope this word of mouth will do wonders for it. I felt the first few trailers didn’t do the film any favors, making it look too goofy/silly with some bad marvel style humor
I’m really really hoping it gets a sequel - it’s not likely right now, but you gotta hope! Even if it doesn’t the movie is good enough to stand on its own too, I just wish we could really see them do more stuff with this world and characters!!
I liked the movie, it’s not G1 i grew up with but they got the spirit.
