Wow! There's a ton of DIY lifts on youtube. Most are pretty nice, with all kinds of extra features, but this right here is easily the least intimidating in cost, required tools, and skill level. Just brilliant.
I believe that this is the best most doable Router Lift unit that I have seen as of yet! Iv'e seen a lot of them! No Welding required! Just simple tools and a Drill Press! Great Design! Seems that the success of this Lift is based on 2 factors! 1. Quality wood! (Plywood) and 2. Fantastic Design! ..Bingo! You have a new Subscriber!
I've watched so many videos on this subject, always overcomplicated, this just summed up my thinking and it's really not difficult or complicated to build a router lift. I'm definitely building something along these lines, thank you!
Nice design. Others I've seen rely on the use of a plunge router. This is a great design for a fixed router (like mine). One modification I may make to your design is to delete the double-nut connection at the bottom of the lift screw. In its place I plan a single nut and then cross drill the nut & the lift screw and hold the nut in place with a roll pin. Your inclusion of the template is most appreciated. Thank you!

The one suggestion I would make though, is to show the finished product at the beginning of the video so people know what you're actually working towards. Otherwise it looks like somebody cutting up wood. Would be nice to have a better look at the finished product.

Two critiques- no lock on the ht. means whatever play is in your tracks will plague you when making heavy cuts where a few thou is a big deal. Second it looks like the wt of the router is pushing against the T nut. Moving that to the bottom would solve that.

I really like this design...simple and effective, while maintaining a small footprint. My new cart will have an integrated plenum for dust collection (I'm planning to have my table saw, planer, and router all in one cart), and I think I can easily adapt this design to connect it to the dust collection.

Working on my version of this lift. This is simpler than the Steve Ramsey one from a Woodsmith design. My router is the big 3 1/2 horse from porter cable and the body is ~ 4 and 3/16th's diameter - - - - for those who have the big porter cable beast! So had to make a few changes for that size. Thanks for the inspiration!
Have you had problems with dewalt and dust in motor on a table setup? Mine was having issues, opened it up and it was packed full of dust. And I use 2 way dust collection on my table that I made. My bosch hasn't had same issue. I sent Dw618 to get full serviced, and once it gets back, I'm putting a filter of some type around it. Perhaps a system that pulls in air from elsewhere, still undecided. Either way, it didnt seem well suited to be below a table inverted like that.

I note (as with many of this type of build, you've stripped out the motor from your DeWalt router frame - certainly convenient. Out of interest, what diameter bolts have you employed for the clamp - 8mm ? The carriage too, is uber simple. I've subscribed on the strength of this video, alone. Finally (& perhaps it's me, but your intonation is that of Tom Hanks - apologies, perhaps you get that a lot - but it made me smile :D ). Enjoy the remainder of your week !!

I'd love to copy this idea, but my problem is, that my router has handles connected, with the power trigger attached to one of them. This one has enough friction in the tracks to hold it with no additional lock if you tighten the adjustment screws right. The down side is that raising the lift takes a little torque.
By the way, Ari, those clamps you use in the first glue up (four, three quarter inch plywood) ? They've really thick clamping pads on them - any possibility that you could let me know the brand - we have nothing that substantial in the UK - but I'd happily purchase from the States - it would be grately appreciated, thank you !! :D
A very good job, I like it, the only thing I would do differently is when you cut out the square hole for the router plate, why do people always drill four holes all you need are two, diagonally opposite, I see this on all videos, they have the brains to invent the machine, but fall over on the execution, I will now go away and put my tin hat on

He locked two nuts together onto the rod, and had them bearing on a washer sitting on the base piece, and held in place by a small protuding piece of the threaded rod, which extended into the hole he drilled into the base piece. Maybe over time that hole will enlarge from lateral deflections. You could easily add a bushing or use a bearing.

Nice simple lift,great job! That's the one for me with a few mods.
What about heat buildup? Am concerned that much wood surrounding the router body will trap significant heat during periods of heavy use.

Glynn, I would zip tie the power trigger in the on position and then use a power strip or wire in a switch to turn the router on or off. Peace.

It's actually a coupling nut that's epoxied onto the end of a threaded rod. It was lying around my shop from a previous router lift.
