    I loved how simple old engines were, as long as you had spark fuel and compression they'd fire right up, so simple and easy to diagnose faults and fix. I wish they still made them this simple, but with even better more refined parts,

      ABC 123 I like to know how to start making my own pick up line. Gonna build my engine, tranny, and axles using the old Ford, Dodge, and Chevy design with my own little touch. Got an idea and design for a 24 valve DOHC 305 cubic inch I6. It'll be a Ford 300 on steroids lol. Also got a design of "square" 4 banger with some 454 pistons. That'll be a hell of a 4 banger lol!

    You just can't beat an old vehicle seems like as long as they don't rot to death a little work and I'll start right back up again compared to this new junk that they make now

      You're not wrong there. Plenty of modern stuff doesn't like being sat for a week, and if the battery has gone flat you're in a world of hurt as it's all too easy to kill fragile and expensive electronic components trying to jump them...

      @Impactjunky 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I posted a video of a 79 Oldsmobile cutlass 260 V8 getting started for the first time in over 15 years. I poured some gas in the carb and it started immediately and ran like a brand new car. I had just shop vac'd a bunch of nuts and other rodent nest debris out the carb right before trying to start it too.

      I agree. I can't imagine leaving my 1997 Silverado to sit untouched for 20 years or more and one day put in a battery and some gas in the tank and just expect it to start right up. I'd be very surprised if it would.

    I like seeing the pine needles in the engine bay, reminds me of the first start on my 76 F100. It sat for 10 years under the pines, dragged it home from the neighbors and had it running in a couple hours. Has a sweet 390 in it, updated the old points with electronic distributor, new carb, and some other upgrades and now it's a beast!!

  • @aleblanc3547

    Wish U could of included the "Whipple" first start as it hit so quick and the hoods dropped down as if I'm ready coach, put me in! I rebuilt my first engine and it was a 205.9 or206 in a 36 chevy truck... the next year they come out with the 215.9 or 216 as not many people know. before that they were flathead four cylinder engines. I didn't know about the shimes in the rod bearings and mixed them up as I took it apart... and tried to leave them out as I put it back together.... wasn't long before I figured out what the shimes were for and the best to come... Plastigage! It took quite some time for me and time consuming it was but a lesson never forgotten. Good times were had tho rewatching the old cars start... many good memories

    I found this old 1974 Capri that was incredibly complete. The only thing that was wrong with it was the serpentine belt which was completely ripped.

    Jonathan love the builds and show us how to get the ones that have sat a while started again. Now I have a question, how feasible is it to take an old grain truck with a twin cylinder dump bed and convert that bed to a rollback style. I want a car hauler for my projects and thought if I could make an old international loadstar into a car hauler would be interesting

    Seeing those throttle linkages connected to the firewall gives me the creeps. I have seen what happens when a motor mount breaks and the linkage gets jammed. The engine lifts up under a load. The linkage then jams the carb wide open causing all kinds of havoc. Broken motor mounts were a big problem, especially for GM, in the late sixties and early seventies. They were forced to do a big recall.
