Aaah, Elley, I got your premiere time messed up - so sorry I missed it! Thank you for joining in the collaboration. 😊 your lab story was inspiring - shame on them indeed! Judging goes two ways for women - either you are too pretty to be smart, or you are too old (or fat, or short, or tall, or unattractive) to be taken seriously. Rock lovers come in all shapes, ages and genders - it is my hope that “A Heart for Rocks” helps people realize that no matter WHO they are, they can have their own rock journey. Thank you for sharing your story.

Tears in my eyes as I listen to Elleys personal bio of how she overcame adversity and made it! and the lesson of the story viewers, is this! She tells us never give up keep trying keep trying keep trying! In the majority peoples that turned a cold shoulder, later learned experience shame, and what a great professor also because this choosing of lab tables in social events seem to be something significant in the pursuit of students of science and this professor said this student is bound to be a scientist and she will make it and shame on you for turning a cold shoulder to her. Now we fans know that after attaining her degree in Reno our hero went to work in a geology desk job and then she had an epiphany and her overwhelming spirit had a catharsis and led her to her independent career and that led her to TH-cam where we met her!?

Okay, I am sooo proud of your accomplishments in becoming a geologist. I’m sure you run into some of the same issues as a professional geologist, since it’s been a male dominated field for so many years. You just busted through those barriers! Woman, YOU ARE AWESOME❗️You keep being your best self, and thanks for letting this old gal tag along.❤

That was an amazing storytime! I got that treatment from bosses, and customers, bexause i went from being an iptician for 20 years, to construction and maintenance. i went from roofing, to framing, ro siding, and then finish carpentry, to painting and i did that for almost 10 years, and decided to change careers again, and went to college to be a vet tech. And i was one term away from getting my degree (associate) when i had my stroke, the night before finals! I had a rultured aneurysm and it left me paralyzed on my right side. And all that schooling, for nothing. I'm permanently paralyzed. And i was right handed! That was 7-8 years ago. And the only thing that keeps me sain, is rocks and this community. But i was prejudged because of my looks too, and i always blew them away because of my talent. Even in construction, they tried to punish me and make me quit by giving me the hardest jobs but i did then, flawlessly, and didnt complain about it. And they learned to accept me, and look up to me, and tbecame their boss! So good for you! You keep showing them up and peoving them wrong! And maybe you can finish my story for me! Thanks for sharing your story Elley!

You're a fantastic storyteller. I feel like there have been so many times where I and every other woman in science have gone through a similar situation. I remember reading some comment section a while back, and these men were absolutely trashing some woman and her geology credentials solely because she had a manicure and (barely) low-cut blouse. It made me so angry. Thank you for sharing this story, I hope it inspires others to leave the haters in the dust and follow their dreams too.

thank you for that openess. I've told my daughter, many times, it's okay to be the hot smart girl, which she is both of, scary smart, just like her mother. I'll share this with her, so she can see that's not the only one out there. Thank you Elley for this, I hope many more young ladies find inspiration from this deeply personal story

I have to say that I never saw you as a "bimbo". I saw you as a smartie pants (that comment shows my age😅) Then I watched and I watched, and I listened and I listened. Then I looked and I looked. Then saw your enthusiasm all through it.
That all turned into man, this is a fun, beautiful woman with so much knowledge, and enthusiasm! She is so willing and excited to share it with all of us! I LOVE you and your happiness and love for what you do! Yes, I have tears in my eyes listening to you, hearing what you went through in college and that chemistry class! Admiration for how you handled your college experiences. You have inspired and taught so many of us! Thank you soooo much! I have been so interested in geology for many years now that I'm retired from nursing. Thank you for letting me live vicariously through you now ❤️!
I'm grateful that you are willing to share with us!

I too had a similar experience but it was in math. I struggled with math all through high school but was put down by several teachers but I scraped through. Fast forward 7 years and I as a mature student wanted to do Electrical Engineering Technology so off to the college I go . I was told that I had to pass Calculus, instant dread. There was no room in the Calculus class I I enrolled in the advanced Calculus class. Dumb thing to do but I really wanted it so I went. The first night I met my professor I was in awe. He made you feel good about yourself. I struggled a bit but I worked really hard and just connected with the prof. Well I passed the course with a 91%. Hard work paid off. In 2003 I volunteered to tutor students in high school math which I did for 17 years until Covid. In 2019 I was awarded a medal from Queen Elizabeth for volunteering. So I can relate to your story with tears in my eyes. Love your channel. Yogi
