    Yeah this is dope. Kinda remind me of chopping on cassettes using the pause button back in the day. You can insert elements from other sources with different keys. Serato Sample has changed the game as far as key goes. You basically can take any element and put it in the key you are working in and its done. Thanks for dropping this video.

    Thank you kindly for taking the time to articulate and demonstrate the process first hand. I have been able to time loops for a minute but It was like knowing the answer to a math problem and not being able to show your work -- once the math becomes too complex and whatever system you were using begins to fail, it becomes very difficult to continue making progress.
    I never thought about actually using the timestamps and counting the beat and instead only focused on the visual cues, which become mundane when sampling individual words/lines/instrumentation I suspect this will make the difference and allow me to sample much more precisely.

    • @OverlorBeats

      @@OverlorBeats I appreciate the sentiment, I have always enjoyed the process and spirit behind creating and editing music. Being able to chop and screw music correctly is probably my top goal over the last several years, yet even as I become comfortable with many other parts of the process, I have hardly progressed at all with complex editing during that time. It means a great deal to me to finally have a toolset and strategy for reaching that goal. I will pass it on as often as I have the opportunity -- thanks again my friend!

    I started taking notes after you told us its rules to this shit and broke down the formula for us. I was mostly focused on what I had failed to do (using the timestamp and counting off beats), feel free to add on anything I missed:
    Rules 4 Choppin Tracks:
    1. To Chop is to Sample and vice versa. Chopping (and sampling) is the art of taking some portion of audio and repurposing, remixing, reworking it, etc.
    2 - Solidify ya Loop game! Learn to count beats, visible cues lose effectiveness when timing semi-notes, the smaller the note the less of a pattern can be recognized and relied upon. If you cannot time loop you wish to use, you cannot effectively chop music. Timing is everything here.
    a) Use available timestamps to more effectively sample perfect loops. Count the time it takes for the sample you desire to repeat (or complete), and add/subtract this against the timestamp for accurate placement.
    b) Looping entire tracks or an entire measure of a track is a good place to start this visual cues and patterns make timing relatively easy and quick, however, continue practicing counting notes and applying this formula. The process remains the same for chopping semi-notes (lines/words/instrumentation) however, the patterns become increasingly more difficult to apply, the smaller the note being sampled.
    c) Audacity's magnification function is more than sufficient to sample however small, begin using it as much as needed, it is a must for millisecond precision.
    d) Audacity also has a repeater function, making this process even more streamlined -- it has dozen's of features, look around and learn ways to use the program to your advantage.
    I have a lot of dope ass tracks in my mind I haven't been able to piece together effectively or to my satisfaction. Thank you very much Overlor for articulating and outlining this basic formula for those of us who couldn't see it.

    • @OverlorBeats
      @OverlorBeats  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow you articulated that very well. You learn the principles and how to follow the rules to build up your skill level so when you break those rules it is done with a purpose and a technique that still allows you to make dope beats. You can't get away with breaking the rules if you don't know them.

    • @coreysayre1376
      @coreysayre1376 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OverlorBeats Exactly -- when you covered counting beats early on in the video it hit me like a brick to the face, it feels very obvious but in all the hours ive spent editing music, it literally did occur to me once to count off and measure against the timestamp.
      I have no issues using visual cues to make various instrumentals, It was how I figured out to sample at all, and it never occurred to me there was a better way, lol. Its fairly easy to loop tracks and make minor edits here and there in most cases, but I have always loved C&S style music and I would love to be able to create more of it. The way I was going about editing, it would literally take me several hours to get a solid start at chopping a track, and having to continually retry cuts with minor adjustments is too frustrating a process.
      So yeah, back to basics for me! Thanks again.
