You nailed it, He got sober in 89-91, Then i think he relasped in 92-93 and on and off threw out the years, I don't know how much time he has sober now, But it's been probably 2-5 years
I can't quit coming to your channel even though it brings up memories i would prefer to forget. But if my words help at least one person it's worth reliving my memories. Best advice i can give is don't hold those feelings in. I was always taught to be tough and suck it up. Since i was just a little kid. Well that's like putting a pot on the stove and eventually the lid is going to blow. You have to find a vent someway. Any way possible. I survived by literal seconds and now because of it the sun is brighter, the grass is greener and the flowers smell better than ever. Just talk to somebody. Don't let it boil over like i did. You can get through it. Amanda, you need to review Kelly Clarkson's song "Sober" " pick the weeds and keep the flowers". Such a moving song she wrote. Hang in there people. There is light and warmth on the other side.
@@metalheadmike774 I will be posting an exposure therapy vlog in the next couple of days for this very reason. You're meant to be here and process through those feelings. Don't worry, we have your back!
Mustaine is a lyrical genius, he manages to draw so many parallels mentally, biblically, and socially while never running out of ideas! There’s so much more Megadeth to cover!
Agreed. Dave’s the best heavy metal lyricist, IMO. It helps that Dave and I have faced almost identical lives…Even down to ‘Diana’. I put her name in quotes because mine wasn’t named Diana, but holy shit did she ever serve the same function in my life.
It was a great read. I bought the digital copy, and then lost it when my device was destroyed, so I illegally downloaded it so I could read it again, lol. I have bought every album up to Youthanasia at least four times for certain, so I just download those albums for free now, after I was robbed and my music collection was all stolen. 🤷♂️
Youthanasia is an underrated amazing album with incredible lyrics, solos, riffs, and just perfect melodies and harmonies. What an emotional song. They seem to keep up that quality for Cryptic Writings album.
The "Turn up my collar" line and forward gets me every time. Just relating it to loss, facing reality and knowing you have to move forward but the process of that is difficult. Fantastic wordsmithiing!
If I remember right this song is about the drug struggle that Mustaine was having in the late 80s. The last drop for him was the fact that his therapist that helpep him died from cocaine OD.
Hello, I'm from Argentina and this was the first album I bought as a child, I love it with all my heart and the song "Addicted to Chaos" is incredible. I remember that with my friends we played the guitar and that part was super melodic, we loved it, it sounded very good ! I don't understand why megadeth doesn't play it live, that's sad.
I can't get enough of your videos Amanda. Such a beautiful lady with the heart of a lion. Thank you for your campaign to raise awareness of Mental Health issues x
I liked your explication of the term -monkey on your back. I always thought that it just meant a weight on your back, but it means more. I really enjoy and learn from your channel, as I have dealt with mental health issues for a good portion of my life. You remind us that we have the power, even if we forget or don’t believe it. Thank you for that🙏
I just discovered this channel tonight. I think I am on my seventh video of the night. What a brilliant concept! I went ahead and subscribed but will check out your other links. A mental health conversation and some great rock music? Love this. Bravo!
So according to an interview Dave did when this album came out, the cover art was meant to be intentionally disturbing. It's a visual representation of the older generation hanging the younger one "out to dry". Great video as always!
Dave writes A LOT about relationships. I'm not sure if you've gotten into any is their thrashier stuff yet, but to tornado of souls is epic & in my darkest hours is one of my lifelong faves, although not all today heavy. Poisonous shadows off their latest album is a masterpiece too. I could name so many amazing megadeth songs.
Interesting outlook on alot of my favorite songs from 80s and 90s when I had a life, the how will I laugh tomorrow song is one that still means alot to me after I lost my leg and my future.
You nailed it what the song means in the first few lyrics. Its a song about a friend of dave who he lost that helped him get sober. He talks about it in his book. Powerful lyrics
Great reaction to a song not often reacted to... thank Amanda. Others have already pointed this out but... Mustaine has a way of writing deeply personal, and sometimes disturbing, lyrics which most people miss because they look at Megadeth as "Metal" or "Thrash Metal" and overlooking the words due to the music. It's a shame Megadeth is not more popular. But with reactions like your, maybe the few new listeners will realize how great this band is. Now, you should listen to the song 'Victory' off the same album, Youthanasia. The song is about overcoming drug addition. What makes the song interesting is much of the lyrics are actually older Megadeth song titles, or parts of song titles. There are 23 previous Megadeth songs mentioned in the song 'Victory'. I have never heard another song or band doing such a thing before... maybe there has been, maybe not. It is definitely a song not often reacted to. Thanks again for play Megadeth and please play more in the future.
Great reaction! I heard this song when it came out and never thought about the meaning behind it, but just that it was an awesome song. In the 90s, things were different about mental health and you just had to --suck it up. It never bothered me then, but now times are diffferent and things are getting hard and these songs and especially this one about addiction are hitting close to home and telling the truth. You realize you have a problem and these songs have been talking about those things for years. Thank you for showing and good luck!
I am shocked that there's a reaction to this song. It is my favorite song off of this album. It makes absolute sense though that you are the one to do it, and thank you for that.
Youthanasia is my favorite Megadeth album, in large part because I feel it’s Mustaine’s strongest vocal performance. And of course because Marty Friedman is playing lead on it. This is a favorite tune on the album. 🤘🏻
Yesterday I found myself... In a world I've never seen... In a place I've never been... Someone please come rescue me... Wake up in a world of dream... Full of things I've never seen... I could be what I've never been... Yesterday I was never there... It was only in my head my dear... Today I live my live in there... But its only in my head my dear... Tomorrow will you find me here... A slave of my undying fear... Nothing left of me my dear... a self-created prisoner... Trapped in here all my life... A self-created paradise... Cannot see what might have been... I'm blinded by the lights within... Lost until the end of time... My memory now fades away... Don't remember who I am... Where I'm from... Or where I've been...
I don't do this often but I wanted to tell you how much I love your reaction videos. As a lifetime "survivor " for now, of suicide. I connect with your emotional responses, not so much on this one but in general. I imagine you get tons of responses so I don't expect you to read this, however on the off chance you do, can you watch testament "return to serenity "? You're my favorite, much love....me
Dave is a very insightful man, with many vices that he has acknowledged and thus conquered. Most people just succumb; Dave excels. For example, he was so fucked up once that he slept wrong on his arm which more or less killed the blood flow to that arms to the point where it became unusable. That usually means the end of a guitar player's career, but not Dave. Oh sure me moaned and groaned, and considered giving up. Yet he finally rehabilitated his arm and now he plays even better than he did before.

Youthanasia was my first Megadeth album and I still think it is their best albums ever so far. A Tout Le Monde being one of the bands greatest songs ever imo.Addicted To Chaos is a really good song. This is just rumors that I know of but I think Dave Mustaine was pretty deep into drugs during that time. Please correct me if I'm wrong! But most members in Megadeth, in their early years, were neckdeep into drug abuse. I think some songs from Youthanasia reflects the lifestyle the band went through... Especially Mustaine.
Mustaine is an amazing song writer. Watch this interview, from back when Youthanasia was released, he’s gives a great insight on this album & the concept of the art work. th-cam.com/video/bSyBWJ9BCRg/w-d-xo.html
I call on patrons and subscribers to request 1 of 9 spectacular songs for Amanda to react to. All are perfect for her channel. Pink - Perfect (the clean version), Death Angel - Lost, Death Angel - Veil of Deception, Guano Apes - Open your eyes, Five for Fighting - World, Collective Soul - The World I Know, Alter Bridge - Blackbird, Tremonti - Marching in Time, Shinedown - Monsters. All offer a lot to discuss. Thanks
You're super fine lady, I'm talking like relentless beauty. Yeah there's so many rock songs pertaining to mental health. Megadeth - Sweating Bullets is excellent for this subject. So many songs to list. Megadeth - Tornado of Souls Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss Testament- Return to Serenity Just to name a few......
I think he wrote this song about an ex girlfriend of his. Their relationship influenced a lot of Megadeths songs such as Wake up dead, Tornado of Souls, In my Darkest hour. But great reaction keep up the great work
I like your reaction to seeing the "image" right away, Its a metaphor for the older generation hanging the youth out to dry, and a storm is coming. It's the cover for their album "Youthanasia". It seems obvious when your told but I had to see it said to understand it myself, so no judgement 😂
First time listener. A perceptive review for one of my favorite bands. If you wish to explore powerful songs about mental health, then check out Alice In Chains, whose entire discography is dominated by this, revolving around the tragic downward spiral and ultimate passing of their extraordinary lead singer Layne Staley. I’d suggest starting with the album Dirt including songs like Down in a Hole and Angry Chair. Then there’s songs from the reformed AIC with new lead singer like Private Hell and All Secrets Known. Too many more to list here and there’s also the incredible solo work from legendary guitarist and singer Jerry Cantrell from the band that deals with the same personal issues (especially double album Degradation Trip).
I haven't heard this song in a long minute. Been awhile since I listened to this album in full. But it's a pretty good track. Never really knew what it was about, as us metalheads usually just listen to these bands for the music itself, not so much about the lyric content.
as a parent of mental health child let me give you some advice...take it if you choose, the first steps you ve taken are awesome, but if you continue to swim in the pool of despair ,expect the Same understandings!! listen to Queensryche or Rush or even Led zeeppilin for better outlooks in life, seriously you need to listen to bands that are positive or have a better outlook than those that are dwelling in it. good luck!! i recommend take hold of the flame!! good luck from L A!!!
You definitely need to react to some porcupine tree!! “Way out of here” live in Tilburg . Extremely sad story as to why the song was written. These guys go really deep!
The album's title and title track are a play on the word Euthanisa usually the sick and old. Here they mean how the system sets traps like poverty, single parent homes (some do fine but the average is net negative) which got far worse BTW after LBJ's Great Society program. That is debatable wether its incompetence or by design, drug addiction, and of course WAR. The lyric is We are the damned of all the world With sadness in our hearts The wounded of the wars We've been hung out to dry You didn't want us anyway And now we're making up our minds You tell us how to run our lives We run for Youthanasia That is the cover art. I know I am one that lyric describes. Can you be shocked when your elders sell you out and every generation since just to protect themselves, that you find the same wounded minds have zero love for them or what they built. Cages and fields for raising debt cattle. Our only value in what $ we can bring them. Now ask why are people messed up. Anger turned outwards lands you in jail or the morgue. Turned inwards it becomes depression and you end up on the streets, in the hospital then the morgue. Some choice. If I did not know there were better options as I hit middle age my anger calls for bloodshed and to burn it all down. Luckily I embrace a higher standard but it is oooohhh so very tempting. In my darkest hours if given the means to destroy the universe like the comic version of the Infinity Gauntlet can ( movies depowered the cosmic power level) be assured I'd have done it with a smile. That much angst and rage and sadness a toxin. It is rare to find I suppose anyone who'll face down that demon, let alone do it sober. I won't lie I spent the better part of 20 years not lving but surviving eating myself into an early grave. Having nothing and no one does nothing to give one the joie de vivre or joy of life. To survive yes. Happiness, ummnn no frankly. Acceptance yes. Working on it. Mostly I think I stick around just to give the 1 finger salute to those who make the world this way. Stubborn that way.
I agree with the person who said Youthanasia is an underrated album. It's probably my favorite. Family Tree is possibly about incest and maybe child abuse.
Dave beat himself up forever it seems. Pretty rough on other bandmates. But I love this band. Check out the song Countdown To Extinction or Foreclosure Of A Dream. Use The Man is another about the pitfalls of addiction. Megadeth is my go to for awesome guitar work.
You should ALWAYS listen to a song without the music video (unless it’s a live concert, of course) first-because the band rarely writes the videos, and even if they did, music videos remove all space for your own mental imagery. They remove the opportunity for that song to immediately connect to something in YOUR life, before the video TELLS you to what to connect it. I don’t watch music videos at all anymore, unless it’s a concert. There’s nothing the production company can show me that I can’t see 1000x more brilliantly in my head.
Hi Amanda my mum says l need to get my mental health asset because I have paniatcs ln the car every time I get I'm and I can not stop my mind from thinking about every things all the time
Megadeth is an awesome band and Dave is lyrically incredible. Another good song is master of puppets from metallica. It talks about drugs addiction and its effects on an individual going thru that.

Better guitarist, than anything.
Best Mustaine album on vocals.
This is a top Megadeth track, definitely underrated
Mustaine is how i learn english , third position Iron Maiden
The entire Megadeth catalog is deep. Get Dave Mustaines book. The number of chapters are equal to his trips to rehab.
Awesome!

I completely agree. I love Family Tree.
Honestly I enjoy it a little better than countdown
Youthanasia is a unique music style - baladic thrash metal ;-)
They definitely kept the high level with Cryptic Writings. I love both

wow, this is not one of the typical tracks of Megadeth that people respond to which is pretty awesome. Great reaction.

Countdown to Extinction was such a bad ass album. Great songs with Great production.First time watcher. 😀
Oops! my mistake this was off Youthanasia album 🙄
Youthanasia brother..lol
The song is about how his 'sponsor' in rehab died from an overdose.
My faviroute metal band ....the whole album Youthanasia is awesome one of their best in my opinion
Dave is a very insightful man, with many vices that he has acknowledged and thus conquered. Most people just succumb; Dave excels. Also reacto to Falling In Reverse.
some examples i like
- popular monster
- the drug in me is you (& reimagined)
- zombified
The album's title and title track are a play on the word Euthanisa usually the sick and old. Here they mean how the system sets traps like poverty, single parent homes (some do fine but the average is net negative) which got far worse BTW after LBJ's Great Society program. The lyric is
We are the damned of all the world
With sadness in our hearts
The wounded of the wars
We've been hung out to dry
You didn't want us anyway
And now we're making up our minds
You tell us how to run our lives
We run for Youthanasia
That is the cover art.
I know I am one that lyric describes.
Can you be shocked when your elders sell you out and every generation since just to protect themselves, that you find the same wounded minds have zero love for them or what they built.
I too love watching your videos not only that you are very intelligent and also a very beautiful.

Can you do "Sacha Sacket - Sweet Suicide" it got me through a lot in my life. I
This song is about his therapist that was helping with his heroin addiction dying of a heroin overdose
WoW.... Why can I not meet you in RL?!? You get it
This whole album is all pretty good
Please , react to Megadeth - *Reckoning day!*

Look up like a storm pull me from the edge you will like it and motionless in white another life
I really think you would like 'God & Satin' by Biffy Clyro. I think it's a song you might get a lot out of.
The monkey on my back is the government run union taught public education that I got or didn’t.
Picture on the album refers to the the title song. It's mean we are hanging the next generation out to dry for our mistakes.
thanks more early megadeth
Check out Breadline
One of my favorite songs, if my screen name isn’t a giveaway.

Your rock sista 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽

I've been dealing with mental health for 36 years now
And you're still here! Because you're a fighter!
Are you a psychstudent or psychologist? I get your interpretations on a deep level
I'm not, thought I took psychology of addiction classes in college.
@@MentalAmanda cool👍

Did you have some sort of trauma involving a car?
😍
Best song from youthanasia.
Why are his vocals so out of tune at points in the remaster? They're perfectly on pitch in the original, which was pre-autotune...
Oh try listing to rise against my cousin is married to the lead singers sister
A good song to react to is Coma by GNR
Megadeth is an awesome band and Dave is lyrically incredible. Another good song is master of puppets from metallica. It talks about drugs addiction and its effects on an individual going thru that.
React to Pantera - Hollow
