I have so enjoyed watching you and your reactions- YOU ARE SO AMAZING, bless you and your message. I too have suffered the effects of my plumbing being different, its a mild form of asperges/terettes I make friends usually easy- but I dont have a filter xD it just sometimes comes out, and I sometimes find very difficult to read signals...I have tried to take my life a few times- wanted too many more...get dark depressions, where my need for perfection, procrastination, and defeatism means I just bury my head in the sand...means if I feel I cant do it perfectly I might not do it...well its always there in background- just a massive journey learning my triggers, and dealing with the fact I will never be perfect- and JUST DO IT- if I jump in and start its fine, I will get involved and be swept along and its done- but to often I am just sitting there look at and dont start...this is from studies (essays reports) to purpose, or relationships- I always end up feeling like if I dont ring/call/visit/plan an event gathering- then they never call me- its like I am the one always reaching out, never being reached for...anyways I am in a good space I think, but Thanks you for being so open and honest...I haven't watched a single reaction with tear jerking at some point....so emotional...love you and bless you

This song is absolute metal beauty. Dave wrote this song after Cliff Burton died and his girlfriend at the time was not there for him so he fell deeper into alcohol and heroin use. I understand what Dave is saying and all the references to dying not going to a perfect world are metaphors for life without that person and the pain that came with it. You are so dependent on that other person that you have to be reborn mentally and start a new life. I’ve been there, and it’s the hardest thing to do and that is like Megadeths other song “The Hardest Part Of Letting is saying goodbye “ that song is also deep and helped me get through. Dave is the best example of that very thing. He went through the Metalica drama, ex girlfriend dramas, addiction, and he came out a better person. I got mad respect and love for Dave, such an honest and wise soul. I grew up a Metalica fan who hated Dave cuz well he was Dave and wasn’t Metalica anymore. I refused to hear Megadeth songs, until one day at a house party when the dude who owned the house put on Five Magics followed by The Conjuring and I asked who the F is that? And my friend said dude that Megadeth Dave’s band. I was shocked and the rest is history

What you said at the end really struck a chord. When you open you’re heart and reach to the one person, you should and that person just brushes you off. That is hurt. That is a wound and that is a forever scar. You’ll be reminded forever.
When I was younger, I wrote a lot. I’ve read these things recently ( wow what a thing to read from your younger self). One thing was this
“ the bumps and bruises are to remind me the scars are so I never forever” and
“There is so much that I am not and much more that I’ll never be but there is so much that I am”
I was 15, coping with the loss of my father. I still hold these to be absolute truths all these years later.

You popped up on my TH-cam because it was Megadeth. I love when people find metal! When you said mid song about interpreting daves lyrics as though he was thinking about keeping on, i always thought the same. Fuck suicide. I've been feeling like I'm better off dead for years. You have to keep going. You never know how your life will change with a little work.

Check out Anesthesia from Type O Negative. Then, if you’re ready for more songs, check out their World Coming Down album. Each album reflects a snapshot into their lives at the time, and World Coming Down was when they were going thru some very tough times. Songs like White Slavery (his cocaine addiction), Everyone I Love is Dead (many family members passed away), World Coming Down, and more.

    Fun Fact:
Dave Mustaine (lead singer) was originally the lead guitarist of Metallica back when they first started the band along with James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Ron McGovney...... James and Dave couldn’t get along with each so Dave left the band and formed Megadeth.....
Later on in the bands journey Cliff Burton would join the band on bass but was killed in tragic bus crash in Sweden when the bus hit a icy patch on the road and rolled over ejecting Cliff Burton out the window and the bus landing on top of him....... yes there’s been some very tragic accidents with all these guys....
Forgot to add that the bass players in the band was in this order......(Ron McGovney, Cliff Burton, Jason Newsted and now Rob Trujillo)

uhm no, Dave did not get along with Ron especially and often spilled beer over him and his equipment, and Lars and James didn't like how aggressive and violent Dave was when he was drunk, when the others were drunk they were happy and silly, but when Dave was drunk he assaulted people and disrespected everyone around him and so he got KICKED OUT he did not left

    • @nonserviam751
      @nonserviam751 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think Dave was basically kicked out for being too violent and crazy when he was drunk.

    • @tonysoto8949
      @tonysoto8949 2 ปีที่แล้ว

He was kicked out. The final incident that caused this to happen was that they guys were drinking and James Hetfield kicked Dave’s dog really hard and Dave confronted him about kicking his dog like that and punched him and dropped him to the floor, the other band members and friends jumped in and grabbed Dave. James met with Lars after that incident and they decided to kick Dave out. We should all thank thank James for kicking Dave’s dog.

This has been my favorite megadeth song for a very long time. He refers to afterlife, but it's important to know that this song was about 20 years before his conversion to Christianity. However he was young and may have just been making reference to a normal concept of our society.
Wherever that part of the song comes from, it's a masterpeice and I've loved it for about 30 years now.
Dave writes a lot about relationships. I would suggest more megadeth songs, but I have way too many. Just play more megadeth.

Not too many people know this, but Dave Mustain was raised as one of Jehovah's Wittnesses, who believe the Bibles hope of resurrection after ones own death, to everlasting life on a Paradise Earth-after the final war of Armageddon, of course! Which he also talks about a LOT in quite a few songs.
It's VERY likely that as a teenager his interests clashed quite a bit w/his parents lifestyle of living as Christians & most likely had an effect on his temperament & later excessive alcohol/drug abuse.
There are MANY references in his albums that reflect his upbringing & his songs are thoroughly peppered with biblical language & innuendos.
As one example, in Ashes In Your Mouth, he reverses the scripture from Isaiah 2:4 "... They will beat their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, Nor will they learn war anymore.", to...
'Melting down all metals, turning plows and shears to swords
Shun words of the Bible, we need implements of war.'
I think these lyrics in 'In My Darkest Hour', are good examples of him pulling from his childhood & his memories of what he had learned from studying the Bible as a child.

What I love about Dave's work is that he channelled his own suffering into music, honestly and without reservations. It's a difficult thing to do well, but he kept at it, and there was no shortage of suffering along the way for him. If you're up for it, a few Megadeth gems include Trust, Dread and the Fugitive Mind and Youthanasia. You've clearly had your own share of suffering, but it's good that you are doing what you can to try and channel it to some positive effort. One song that might hit hard in a 'face your demons' sort of way would be Beyond the Realms of Death by Judas Priest, a deep and confronting song by the Metal Gods.

Awesome choice using the performance from the movie "Decline and Fall of Western Civilization Part 2: The Metal Years". Lot's of sad stuff in that movie. It could just be how it was shot and edited, but it seemed those marginal and even star rockers were hiding a lot of pain with drugs and alcohol.

Another tune I used a lot in my personal music therapy to combat my gen x upbringing/ teen angst/ depression. It took me a few years before I figured out that Dave wrote this after Cliff Burton of Metallica died, as a way of processing his grief. It was another song I used to get that emotional charge up…

I suggested listening to "you can't bring me down" by the band suicidal tendencies (they are all about living btw) &have seen songs being recommended that are no way near as powerful as some I'll suggest, such as - the whole R.H.C.P. album blood sugar sex magic, the 1st 6 black sabbath albums, truly deep, inspirational, loving music & lyrics that people would never attribute to B.S. if they just read the lyrics. Also - judas priest "rock hard" James brown's get up off of that thing" Rudyc by the specials

Dave Mustaine îs one of the most sarcastic metal musicians of all time. This song has some of the best quips.
Often its in the tone of his voice as he sings.
For example in the line "Everlasting life for me" I believe he is being sarcastic, mocking religion, mocking everyone telling him that things will get better.
His suicidal thoughts have some sarcasm as well. Sort of a "welp I might as well just kill myself because that will relieve the pain right?" type of outlook.
    Truly a great review/reaction.
Love the focus on mental health.
    Thank you!
