      I'd have done the same in his case. Besides, he was going to die anyway so he might as well have gotten in that one last gesture of defiance against one of the symbols of the Empire's tyranny.
      If I was Vader after I killed him, I'd respect him for his bravery and defiance even if I felt that it was misplaced.

    No one ever complained about the cold on Hoth. We never felt it. Even though we were blinded by blizzards, we could see the final end of the Rebellion in our blaster sights. Was it only a mirage? Perhaps. But on that day, on that planet, our blood ran hot with dreams of victory, melting the ice that stood in our way.

    When I was a little girl, my dad would often tell me the story of him participating in this battle as a Snow Trooper. He would tell me the hardships he and his fellas went through, the cold of the planet, how cool he looked with a blaster, etc.
    Because I was little, I believed him and thought it would be cool to join the Empire. I later learned that it was all fiction, though, but it didn't matter, because in my book he was a really cool guy.
    Anyways, this is a nice memory from my childhood and I wanted to share it here. Thanks for reading, stranger (:

    Probably one of my favorite scenes of all time in Star Wars is when we get the shot of the Rebel soldiers retreating and the AT AT walkers in the distance firing upon them. It was so beautifully shot, and it gave a real sense of how powerful the Empire was. I hope we get something similar with the First Order in the new trilogy.

We see a normal everyday soldier who willingly entered the Rebellion knowing that they could die. Their story doesn't always end with a happy note it can end with dispare, sadness, vengance, and sacrifice.

    It would be better if Disney had a campaign of slowly choosing novels or comics that don't interfere with their new timeline and canonizing them individually, instead of trying to rush through in 3 years what the EU did in 30 years. Case in point: Death Troopers. That was a pretty good novel, doesn't interfere with the timeline, and has already been referenced in Canon.

    Excellent Video, LM!
    🔥💯🔥
    Thank You for Creating and Sharing with us. I've always wondered about the fates of the rebel soldiers who heroically faced the full might of the Empire's land forces on Hoth. It was also good how you revealed the perspective of the Imperial troops who were burning with the desire to avenge their slain comrades from the battle of Yavin.
    🔥💯🔥
    From a storytelling perspective, it is important to note how easy it is to find Story Seams within the Star Wars Saga to dive into and explore such as with the tale of the young rebel soldier on Hoth.
    💫
    Building a massive, multi-layered story world defined by an epic conflict and populated by complex and heroic characters is the name of the game in professional storytelling now.
    🔥👑🔥
    Thanks again for this great video.
    May the Force Be With You!

    I doubt I could ever feel sympathy for people wanting to avenge the destruction of a planet-killing superweapon. No one working on that thing was innocent. It's always nice to see the other side, but I still want them to lose.

      Yeah for example tons of people love the quote from the 501st clone in Battlefront II but I actually like his voiceover in those scenes entirely because it comes across as a darkly ironic comeuppance considering his actions after order 66 and that he views Hoth as the ultimate victory for the Empire when we know that it's actually their greatest failure and leads to the Rebellions ultimate victory over the Empire.

      @asd asd that's the point many of the imperials believed that the death Star is invincible and also so if you are working for a bad buy that makes you bad if that is true than you are beyond lost, stupid and lawful evil

    No one ever complained about the cold on Hoth. We never felt it. Though we were blinded by blizzards, we saw the end of the Rebellions in our blaster sights. Was it a mirage, perhaps. But on that day, on that planet, our blood burned hot with dreams of victory that melted the snow that stood in our way- 501st Trooper.

      "As the Rebels fled, the 501st gathered around the burning bunker, and let out a cheer that shook the stars. The Rebellion was done. The Death Star was being rebuilt bigger than ever. Order had finally returned to the galaxy, and no small part due to the efforts of the fighting men of the 501st." ~ 501st Journel

    Personally, as a Star Wars fan, I reject Disney's new cannon. The Legends stories are so much deeper and simply better. Jeez, I really wish Disney would have taken the time to go through and familiarize themselves with the lore rather than simply tossing all the cool stuff out and replacing it with shallow crap for a few quick bucks.

      GalaXio well just like the WWI the soldiers were mostly young and inexperienced with a few older veterans not to mention the message the main character had for his mother were a lot like the letters the soldiers wrote for their family and friends and they would have small celebrations when taking out a zeppelin similar with the rebels and taking out AT-ATs not to mention the vast amount of trenches on both Hoth and and the battlefields of WWI

    I have never considered the battle of Hoth a slaughter. Echo base was meant to be evacuated on short notice. The thin screen of rebel troops defending the base did just what they were supposed to, as general Rieekan said: 'We gotta hold 'em until all transports are away'.

    • @Seriona1
      @Seriona1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically from a military point of view. The Battle of Hoth would be looked as a Empire Tactical Victory and an Alliance Strategic Victory though the Alliance victory is being used loosely. Empire took the planet and used Echo Base as a POW camp however the Alliance managed to leave the base with most of their personal and equipment. My only issue with the Alliance was the long term goal of the land forces they left. Were they meant to just stall and die? Did the Alliance plan on evacuating those men?

    • @wouters1180
      @wouters1180 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Caesar Seriona Well, I'm just speculating, but seems to me the Alliance would try to evacuate battle hardened troops. In the scene where Luke boards his X-wing, you can still see transport ships. I like to think several transports waited until the last minute to get as many highly valuable combat troops out as they possibly could.
