With the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered games rapidly approaching their February 2024 release, I decided to give myself some nostalgia and play one of my favorite childhood games ever, TR1. This was a pure passion project for me, reliving all those memories really brought back the good old days of gaming. I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did creating it. 😁
The game Tomb Raider is about a British explorer named Lara Croft who travels to old tombs and temples to find treasures. She must be very smart to solve puzzles, traps, and mysteries to move through the lost ruin cities. Lara is also very athletic and must do lots of climbing, jumping, and swimming in order to find more treasures and old artifacts. Along the way she has to fight bad guys and creatures like animals and monsters that guard these old places. Tomb Raider was very popular when it came out in 1996 because it had new ways to move around and explore in the game world and Lara Croft was a cool new video game hero that lots of people liked. It was the start of a big series of Tomb Raider games, movies, and books.

Our final touch:
We did heavy color correction and noise reduction / sharpness to make the video pop ever more.
We also spent hours editing out all the fluff, all the save screens, menus, idling and deaths.
We also played and recorded the game countless times, to make sure we provide you with the best gameplay possible.

Now this was one of the best games ever. When it first came out it was mindblowing to have that much freedom
Pushing 80, My sweet wife and I were married for 50 years. I recently lost her. But I got a bit choked up watching "Lara" run/jump/grunt. My wife and I use to play this when it first came out. We were amazed at the "cool" graphics and game play. Along with DOOM, Hexen, Unreal... Damn! sigh, Miss her badly!
The music was so awesome in this game. I love Tomb Raider so much !
I tried to copy the game disk and for some reason it only copied the sound track which I've since converted to MP3 and still have it. Even now just listening to it gives me goosebumps!

Playability and the music it is brilliant
What i love about the early Tomb Raider games is that you had to figure out the puzzles without any hints.
Ya, you couldn't just cheat either by looking it up.
@@DeuceGenius My brother gave me a walkthrough/level guide book for one of the early games (I think it was III) as a Christmas present. I thanked him for the gift but told myself I wouldn't even look at it until I'd finished the game.
I think I only cheated on that once. Maybe twice.
What I liked about these games is that there were no stupid coloured bits to advise you where you had to go like in most games now. How on earth did we manage without them and complete games like this? They spoil the modern games and suggest gamers are unable to figure out where to go or jump up to next.
Remember the save crystals? We literally couldn't even save freely! 😂
My favourite game ever..this brings me back to hours of sitting in front of my computer playing this.. I'd give anything to relive this experience..

The weird thing with nostalgia memories is, in my mind the game looked exactly like this back in the day, when it really didn't. ;)

And still was sublime. Nowadays even Alyx in vr can't provide the same goosebumps on my skin
640x480 looked pretty good on a 14" Crt. Crt-s had some "antialiasing" effect by non square pixels and triangular subpixel layout.

How many hours spent with this masterpiece... and how many more with all the sequels of this legendary Lara Croft... I have played all parts of Tomb Raider so far and even though I am an old player, I can't wait for the next part

This is one of the most important game in history of gaming. I remember when It was released in 1996. God...90s was the best time to live for human beings. Lara Croft and Tomb Raider are the ICON of 90s
The 90s Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Final Fantasy 7 change the whole game in gaming! There was no internet game streaming, no android games, just you and friends, the games and the gaming consoles (PS1, Xbox) playing on 36" floor model TVs! What a time it was! FF7 sold 7 million copies worldwide which was unheard of at that time! Resident Evil jumpstarted the survival horror genre
This game wrote history. And if in the long future of humanity will be a gaming history museum,then TR 1 will in among the first titles who left their mark in gaming history.

@@PureCinematicGaming Same here. The first time I played tr1 is uncomparable to any other gaming experience(although playing orig.Alan Wake comes as a good 2nd). I'm so happy there'll be remasters so people who havent played these games have a chance to try.🥰

@@kuuttinenabsolutely true in my experience. This game had such a huge impact on my life: the feel of it, the atmosphere, the story. It wasn't until later years and recently that I've gone back through the game multiple times to acquire everything and even try different challenges (like pistols only, no medipaks, all kills, no save crystals - it's not easy). Still my favourite TR game.
@@Nightopian1982 Yes! It had a huge impact on my life and interests as well. Nowadays games are more about graphics and pointless running, upgrading weapons etc, there's no amazing athmosphere or that feeling of "I wonder what happens next".

Offical HD remaster of all 3 games drop on Feb 14, 2024. I can't wait to check it out. I have been wanting to replay the series, but doing so in HD format will be a real treat.

If it's anything like most remasters of old games, it's gonna suck (eg. GTA def edition). But we'll see, fingers crossed.

When you were stuck in this game, you were stuck for HOURS. You better have had a friend who was playing at the same time and knew what you had to do next.
Traded my mega drive with Sonic for a PlayStation when this was first released. Took me weeks and many many save points to get through. No internet then to find walk through s or help. Had to but a magazine. I remember the Japanese F1 was on so I stayed up and completed this game about 03:30 in the morning just before Murray Walker started the GP which Damon Hill won.
I actually started playing TB 3 but found it a bit difficult. But loved the music so much I bought this to get a better understand of it. This and TB 2 are the best games I ever played, still got them and my Playstation 1. Thanks for posting. Fantastic games, stunning music and fantastic memories

I know you are a true one because you started with 3 and recognized 1 was better. Kudos to you. I did the inverse....and for many years didn't like 3....but I learned to like it (in great part due to the music).
Indeed, for a mid 90's game the graphs quality was amazing! Very clear and colorful. This game was a monster to play back then. Hard to say the least! I never managed to finish it back then.
Hm... I think back in the day I was more patient to finish a game and to put time into it! I finished TR 1-3... TR 1 and 2 are the best.

@@bl4d3runn3rX Indeed ,games required a better skill level from the gamers and patience. What i liked back then was the fact that you were buying a game title and you were playing this for months or almost half a year to beat it. Nowadays,in 7 hours you re done with it.( Even on hard difficulty)

and the audio still rocks over 99 percent of other games. subtle not audacious. Yeah i try to use new words ive heard of but never tried before
This had been out for some years when I first played and completed it around 2002 or so on my strawberry iMac. This run-thru is fantastic, really brings back memories. Wonderful game.

Hi, it's a great job. I really appreciate this. TR1 is a legendary title. To play it at the top on 1996 i upgrade my Pentium 75 to 133 and bought a Matrox Mystique to play it with patch, the next year i upgrade to 166 mmx and add a 3dfx Voodoo1 to play again with glide libraries optimized. Waiting for 14 February to try the remastered i am now playing another time with my retropc with Voodoo1 still working 😅

I had my first PC a few months before it came out, had some gaming experience by then but when this one hit the shelfs, I was totally blown away. I imagine my reaction if it had already looked like this. Guess I would have fainted.
I had the same exact experience...but I played it first on a PS1...i'm assuming we're both about the same age then 🙂

They have released a TON of new information on the Remastered Trilogy and comparison short clips, and it looks absolutely GORGEOUS. It's how a Remaster should be. And OVER 200 Trophies 🏆 aswell for us trophy hunters, including one for Locking Winston in the Freezer 😂 It's perfect.
I just HOPE The Last Revelations and Chronicles gets this EXACT same treatment. The Last Revelations was the BEST one..

I beat Tomb Raider 1 and 2 just last year or so. They still hold up incredibly well. I used emulation hacks to upscale the resolution and fix some other graphical oddities, and they looked great! This looks even better, let's hope the official remaster is at least as good as what the fans are able to pull off!

Back then playing this one was compelled to keep going forward but often would promise to return and admire some of the sets & sensational environments - also good ideas and colour schemes for redecorating the bedroom, bathroom and/or garden.

@@PureCinematicGamingMe either brother. They BETTER do The Last Revelations and Chronicles and possibly Angel of Darkness Remastered for a Remastered Collection Volume 2 Next. Revelations was alot of peoples BEST Tomb Raider PS1 game. It would be STUPID to leave that one out..
Such a great game. I remember getting as far as Natla's mines, then Wipeout 2097 came out and I played that for months. Always regret not going back and finishing it off.
First TR games had such a creepy atmosphere. I loved this.
I miss the early PS one days when games like this and Deathtrap Dungeon were everywhere. Games where you could just spend hours exploring and navigating environmental hazards. Now they seem largely replaced by FPS-style games on every new console release.
What a graphical upgrade for this Tomb Raider game. It gives me a blast to the past! I am back in 1997. In that year my parents bought Tomb Raider for the PC. The original Tomb Raider games made by the (now defunct) British game developer Core Design and published by the British computergame publisher Eidos Interactive (also defunct) are outstanding. I do not have the games anymore. The cd rom discs are broken and disposed by that reason. But I love Lara Croft and her Tomb Raiding adventures! Tomb Raider Rocks!

This Gem got me back into gaming. I had the spec48K and C64 then Amiga 500 then 1200. Then just left gaming.
Years later at this Milfs house. I got up, went down for a cigarette. And her younger brother, shared a bifta, and I sat with him a while. He was playing on the PlayStation.
Tomb Raider, Sphinx level.
He reached the Sphinx's door at the bottom between its arms n chest. Went through and dropped into that green water, and that etherial music played! And I was blended in to it.
I bought one the next morning. A Great Game.
I’m recently playing the 1-3 remake. Something about the old school graphics ignites a joy inside of me. I grew up playing mainly tomb raider 3.
My inner child is so happy to be able to play these games. And I’m constantly switching back and forth on the graphics too. The updated ones are nice, but the old school/original graphics just feel right.
It always amazes me when Lara can pull the triggers on both guns at the same time, every time lol

The first time with the T-rex and the first time experiencing the dogs in Resident Evil. Probably the 2 greatest moments in gaming for me.
Remember we'd been used to 16-bit consoles up to this point. Absolutely mind blowing back in the day. Don't get graphical leaps like this anymore.
Oh the infamous walk to the edge, one step back, perfect edge jump so u dont fall down and break all ya bones...what a classic!
Was I the only 1 thinking this .. But when I played Tomb Raider I always had goosebumps during playing like I was actually Laura in the actual game it always gave me the chills🥶

Man, this is THE Tomb Raider, the classic that will never die. With the Nintendo I spent days trying to beat Super Mario, and for the PC, Prince of Persia and Tomb Raider. Measured movements, quick reflexes, combination jumps. Modern Tomb Raider games have become so complicated, what with multiple story line, tasks to complete, and so many control buttons that they just became another game altogether, and still bearing the Tomb Raider name just pisses me off.

I had the luck to have Matrox Mystique 220 at the time I got Tomb Rider - the playthrough was silky smooth and it looked way better than the DOS software renderer - this game is a real jewel, as someone pointed out, it is still fully playable and fun today.
Wow man! That's old school! I remember glidos and how it completely changed the way the game looked and ran!

I had a really old PC back in early 90s, without Nvidia graphic cards. In games like this, it looked like in a see through "glass world" and without texture.
One of my the best level was The Cistern. Was amazing when I first saw that.

Played this on PC way back when and I had no idea what it sounded like or what the dialogue was until TH-cam came along and people started putting their walkthroughs up lol I think I needed a patch to fix the sound problem but never got it 😒 still enjoyed this game on multiple replays (tbh I really loved the Crystal Dynamics remake also) and super excited for the remasters 😊 great playthrough

nowdays kids will never feel the excitement when you first discover PC pentium1, and play this game
Came home from work one night in 1996 to find my older brother in his room. on the Playstation as usual. Saw that the game was a new one, with a female character in hiking gear running around in a cave and getiing chased by wolves. Asked him what it was, misheard his reply and spent the first 15 minutes thinking the game was called "Doom Raider". He got killed, handed me the controller, and the obsession began. Over the next two or three weeks we tag-teamed the game on evenings or weekends, although I think my brother eventually drifted away to play other things. I finally finished it by myself one (very) early Saturday morning, having had hardly any sleep the night before, and it really felt like reaching the end of a journey. I don't think any game's grabbed me the same way since.
So awesome to hear how this game impacted various age groups at different stages 👍

One of the few games I completed back in 1996.
I played this on PC in the 90s and though the controls were clunky and response time was delayed it was a cool game so I bought them up to Underworld for my PS 2.
Kids nowadays would be like.... WTF is this? I could never get past the tiger, whichever level that was on. Born in 90.
