Such a weird song. John's playing triplets, Paul's playing a walking bass, George is picking Atkins-style in the solo and Ringo is drumming a loping twist beat in the verses and straight 4/4 snare beats in the chorus. It all holds together though.

Not really weird to me. It's not uncommon for songs to mesh straight time and swing. For me the take away is the precise and fast chord changes.

Can you imagine the frustration of thousands of beginning guitar players in the 60's trying to play John Lennon's rhythm licks on their Silvertone finger wrecker acoustics? Triplets at that speed with those chords? John is the most underrated rhythm guitar in rock history

The day of the Ed Sullivan Show, a Sunday, everybody was waiting to see them, even my mom was talking to our neighbor's mom, they were laughing how silly the Beatles looked but were curious, nobody knew even what they really looked like and the only big songs were I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You with the "yeah yeah yeah" and their hair was the BIGGEST thing, everybody was like totally STUNNED, it was SO radical and out there, it is so funny to think about it today but it was like aliens landed on Earth and they were BRITISH and it was all so weird and wonderful. And the only music that was even close was Everly Brothers. What they managed to do with three guitars was amazing. And remember JFK has just been shot like a few months ago. I was going on 10. It was earth shattering.

Brilliant playing by John in that song, it just makes it come alive. Playing the chords isn't the big deal, it's keeping a fluid, steady and even sounding up and down strum that makes it tough for most of us. When you watch John do it, it's like he's not even thinking about it, it's so natural for him to do. The song would never been the same without those triplet strums. I've always liked the verses better than the chorus just because of that strumming.

I've had to play this before.....it was a nightmare at first. After you're done it's like, 'I made it!!!'.

John was a very under-estimated Great Guitar Player.
    Same as George.

What are you talking about? Both have always been acknowledged as gifted musicians. Don't take my word for it--just Google it.

@@fredpearson5204 I saw John on a list of influential guitarists who were terrible players. They probably just went with an opinion and didn't cite any evidence

I’ve never been able to play this for as long as I’ve tried. Maybe with your excellent video I might take another stab at it.

westfield90 I always have thought is due Rickenbacker's short scale what makes easier to play it compared to any another standard scale guitar

Great cover series of one of my favorites. Are you using flats or roundwounds on the 325? Also curious to know what type of pick you're using. Strings and picks make a huge difference in getting the timbre just right on these tunes.
