Really excellent beginner or even a refresher session! Janet is very warm and welcoming, and a great teacher! I haven't been to a contra dance since Covid; thanks for the reminder of how much fun it is!

I wish she had not used gendered terms.

Very disappointing to hear the teacher acknowledge that gendered role terminology of "gents" and "ladies" is outdated, and then she proceeded to use them anyway! So much for inclusivity and acceptance. . . 😞

Came here to say the same thing as I am calling a dance tomorrow and wanted a refresher on how to give an effective intro lesson. The pacing and content is excellent and it's such a bummer to have to listen to gendered terms.

I think she deserves credit for explaining that people are moving away from gendered roles. It's sometimes hard for older people to change as fast as younger people do, and these are rapidly changing times! Anyway, I think this woman is a great teacher and I was impressed by the students, too--they seemed to catch on quickly.
