He's a hack. Has a worthless degree in political science. Thinks he is an intellectual. Intellectual's never have any answers but they are quick to find problems and point fingers. That's because they have nothing else to do. His parents were Russian sympathizers and he was a maoist. Everything is the fault of the west. Never mentions all this could have been avoided if at any time the Palestinians would have actually negotiated for peace. Never mentions they don't want peace. They refuse to compromise. Always falls in the lap of the west and Israel. I guess we are the only ones that have any responsibility for actions. Read Thomas sowell's Intellectuals and Society . Eye opening. These clowns love the benefits of western society but hate western society.

Norman Finkelstein had decency and seriousness deeply fire-branded into his conscience by the generational trauma of his Holocaust-orphaned parents, presumably strong people and definitely outspoken individuals who may have barely survived the Auschwitz and Majdanek Nazi concentration camps.
Now I find his economic politics strange, guys like him and Chomsky believe in benevolent state-controlled (haha oxymoron alert!) wealth redistribution and socialized ownership of property. But I feel in Norman's case such views stem from a sense of goodness that to him is important above all.
I have been once to the Dachau camp memorial. I believe he sees our current path as humanity's certain way to violence and subjugation and privation, dehumanization and destruction. How else could one look to Communism and Marxism as desperate, radical re-imaginings of society ( and these systems paradoxically put a lot of faith in SOME people's human nature.)
Particularly since he decided to forego the security of wealth, popularity and fame in the way people usually try to exploit these for their enjoyment. He was quite willing to gamble away his academic career even for the quite unworthy Alan Dershowitz, who as a fool learned of course nothing & defamed him so cravenly in return.

Why i love watching Prof Norman Finkelstein?
because all the sentences that come out of his tongue are based on considerations of logic/knowledge, facts and truth. Currently, the world needs figures like him more, also like his mentors; Prof. Chomsky, and also his colleague Prof. J Mearsheimer. Currently with limited resources and the strong push of materialistic culture the world has abandoned ethics and the wisdom of reason and success is judged only from material/financial matters. Even despite humanity and equality. the world needs teachers who provide advise based on facts, logical wisdom and facts.
May God always give protection and blessings to him and people like him and his family. Insyaallah🤲❤️🤲

Their website said it was unavailable but I decided to call the one closest to me and they said they didn’t have any but a different store in Austin *might* have a copy. Called them and they had one copy with no book jacket. I asked them to hold it and drove over there and bought it, and the woman said it was the last one in Texas (Half Price Books stores).
It’s not available on Amazon, haven’t checked Barnes & Noble. His website links to Versa (publisher) & it’s not available on there either. I took a picture of it next to Half Price Books’ list of “banned” books, ALL of which they sell & have plenty of copies of. 🤡

God said in the Quran :
      ﴿أَم خُلِقوا مِن غَيرِ شَيءٍ أَم هُمُ الخالِقونَ﴾ [الطور: ٣٥]
      (35) Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?
      ﴿أَم خَلَقُوا السَّماواتِ وَالأَرضَ بَل لا يوقِنونَ﴾ [الطور: ٣٦]
      (36) Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.

He is right of course. Woke and Identity Politics were a kind of capitalist inoculation against the left critique of capitalism, specifically the problems associated with allowing an exceptionally privileged and exceptionally influential minority ownership class.
It was financed by wealthy entities, and promoted to both splinter the left into many separate special interests, as well as to promote social division, principally along the lines of morality and ethics, - a kind of flagrant brandishing of sexual deviance and disregard for traditional values, seemingly designed chiefly to horrify those who regard those values dear.
Of course, to some extent, the embracing hedonism and rejecting traditional and religious sexual taboos has been a natural or organic part of the left position, but in principal this was a questioning of excessive societal repression via illegitimate authority. The left also tended to champion the rights of any minority they felt might be being especially oppressed or subjugated.
But Nietzsche, for example, said something like a cause's greatest enemy is it's over-zealous advocate, and it is obviously possible to push something to the point where it induces a kind of backlash effect, (an easy example perhaps being the phenomena of a rapid increase of foreign immigrants inducing "right wing backlash") which can be used to effectively divide the population into opposing camps.
The CIA has been credited with promoting a "synthetic left" of this sort, essentially to help control and direct public opinion. And at any rate, I think there should be little doubt that those with money, at least in capitalist societies are those who most significantly shape and influence our societal opinions, our trends and our "cultural" and political developments.
But of course our whole "collective understanding" of the nature of our world is enormously influenced and shaped by our mass media (and main stream articles, opinion pieces, novels and movies etc.) and if the mass media asserts that "Woke" is the new religion of the LEFT, or that Joe Biden's capitalist corporation serving Democrats epitomise the LEFT, well, then I guess we either need to communicate with one another using terms in a way quite incompatible with the way that corporate controlled media or "popular culture" (in terms of best selling books and most watched Netflix and Hollywood productions) uses those terms, or else perhaps we can communicate in terms whose meaning only we can alter, or else, presumably, we must embrace the narrative and the interpretation of the world that is fed to us through our electronic mass media.
And unfortunately, to the extent that we must surrender to having to communicate with one another under the constraint that the majority will tend to posess a rather "synthetic" and superficial understanding of the world, well, we will have our Norman Finkelstein's seemingly speaking strange and curious truths, or absurdities if you prefer, out there in the proverbial wilderness.
    Cheers, love and God bless

You've summarised EVERYTHING so clearly. There's this idea that "Tankies" are ruining the left, when "Tankies" are in fact the ones woke to the liberal infiltration of leftist movements.

How do you explain communist style repression over the pandemic and the clear influence of Chinese repression upon the western world. And the clear ownership of large swaths of western economy by China. It's clear to me that communism owns the west. What's the lefts response to that?

Is there any system that is less conducive to a small ownership class than capitalism? The worst-case scenario, which almost always plays out due to inherent human greed and desire for power, for most systems is worse than the worst-case scenario for capitalism, in my understanding. I also think it's one thing to have crony capitalism which bails out the rich ("Too big to fail"), and another thing to have capitalism with little governmental intervention (depending on area) with a certain social safety net, because in my understanding there's no better way to allow for individual freedoms and upward class mobility than such a system.

I see his perspective and it makes sense if the term woke was defined his way but that’s not how it was traditionally used but he was spot on when it comes identity politics.

    • @KadmaelBailey

That part. The problem is that people, including himself, conflates the meaning and speaks on the co-opted version of the term and considering the place of "staying woke" in Black culture, hell, a culture of being marginalized and oppressed, it's sad to see someone as impressive as him still be lost in the sauce is unfortunate. "Wokeness" isn't a thing. It was never a thing to be defined like that. To be on the Left is "stay woke" due to the fact of placement of the oppressed versus the oppressors and to not stay woke in light of what's happening would allow you to effectively become and unwitting tool for the oppressors. Period. Keeping your mind open and your eyes fixed on the myriad ways in which they try to subvert the actions of those rebelling against them is the very staying woke to thing that these people try to sway in a way to weaken and change to adhere to their politics. The ways in which words can be transformed due to the willful ignorance of the masses is madness.

Yeah, it's a really odd opinion to think that woke people aren't concerned about class. The wokest lefties never shut up about class. Sure, if you arbitrarily decide to disinclude theoretical works about class from your study of "woke" theories, than it sure seems that wokeness doesn't include class.
