Saiki Atsumi: Lead vocals and rock'n'roll queen. Nicnkame: Princess
Miku Kobato: rhythm guitar/vocals/lyricist and mastermind behind the group. Nickname: Pigeon
Kanami Tono: lead guitar and primary composer. Nickname: Gums
Akane Hirose: drummer and drum composer. Nickname: Gorilla
MISA: bassist and bass line composer. Nickname: Ass-Chin
Formed in 2013, they first started getting international attention with the release of the video Thrill in the spring of 2015; that video has over 10M views now. It was hosted on a Facebook group for Japanese music in 2015, and that Facebook video got 4M views in a few weeks. In interviews, the band noticed that their TH-cam channel was getting a lot of new views and comments from international fans, and they were like, "WTF is happening?" Their label finally gave them permission to start recording their own music in 2016, and everything they've done since then has been written and composed by the band (though, they had help with the lyrics to The Dragon Cries because none of the members of the band are fluent in English). I believe that the reason their music is so interesting is that the band has such wide musical inspiration. Saiki wants to be her own style vocalist, rather than emulating someone else, but her favorite singer was Namie Amuro who retired recently. Miku's musical background was enka music, something I would describe as a traditional Japanese music most closely similar to Blues in the West. Kanami's favorite guitarist is Carlos Santana, but she grew up being classically trained on the piano. Akane began with a variety of instruments, including piano and trombone, before settling on the drums, and her favorite drummer is Nao from Maximum the Hormone, a Nu-Metal style band from Japan. Lastly, MISA also began with a variety of instruments, including piano and guitar before starting to play bass in high school; her favorite band is Smashing Pumpkins, and her favorite bassist is Paz Lenchantin.
The band has a great library of music, and pretty much none of it is bad. Their sound has evolved over time, with their first album being more of a light, pop-rock sound. Their current direction of hard rock really took off when the video for Thrill became popular. In one interview, Miku had said that if Thrill had not been successful, the band probably would have broken up because they had not managed to make a name for themselves in the two years up until then. Luckily for all of us, Thrill did catch a lot of eyes, and they've been growing ever since.
They have toured internationally every year beginning with 2016, including Europe and North America, though it appears that is unlikely to happen this year with the current world health situation. I have had the luck to have seen them perform live eight times, but that hardly puts me in some sort of elite company. There are some super fans in Japan that I know who have each seen the band play 75+ times over the years.
Next Band Maid reaction: it doesn't matter, they all rock.

You just stumbled on my favourite band in the world today. Their feel-good vibe is just what we all need right now imho!!!
Saw them live in London in 2018 and became an instant fan, (I'm even learning Japanese because of these ladies). What a good place to start with the Band Maid reactions, it gives a great idea of the atmosphere they generate live. The Live versions of "Moratorium" or "Real Existence" are definitely worth a look too, as is most of their other stuff.😁
They have two videos with official subtitles. "Dragon Cries" which is all in English but still has English subtitles. Very bluesy song produced by Tony Visconti, best known for working with David Bowie. And their alter-ego band Band-Maiko did "Gion-Cho" which has English and romanized Japanese subtitles (you have to hit the CC button on TH-cam). Band-Maiko started out as an April Fool joke that has taken on a life of its own. They dress up as geishas and rock out (a maiko is a geisha in training).

They are a super talented hard/heavy rock band where each member brings their own huge talent to form this..........musical entity, to the point where each member of the band is irreplaceable to the bands sound and direction. Hey Shanksy! I live in the states and discovered Band Maid in the fall of '18. They are hands down the best rock band in the world, in my opinion of course. Check out the whole Band Maid collection. Yes, these lovelies are top shelf musicians and performers, but what sets them apart are their songs, mostly written by lead guitarist Kanami. They are catchy and stay with you all day long. I love your Aussie candor and humor and will enjoy you reacting to more Band Maid!

Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. Saiki Atsumi “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience.
Miku Kobato "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 28 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!!
Kanami Tono “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 28 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party!
MISA "Assassin" - Bass, 27 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Yea it’s something how Japanese women don’t show their age-I’m 66 year old metal/rock head and these gals blow me away with their skills-I understand they been doing this and working on their craft for over 50 years, haven’t heard a bad set yet!

Try Moratorium , Puzzle, Dice, Take me Higher,Blooming, live but their videos are good too! And you have about 75 more sets/songs haven’t found a bad one yet! There talent is off the charts, found them about a year ago-they are my new favorite band (66 year old metal/head) Been a fan of Nightwish for over 20 years try Shutter before the Beautiful Wembly-and Floors Band Northward it more rock/metal but I think you’ll enjoy it. The live version is very cool right? But the ogrinal one has a better sound, so you can hear 2 guitar, the bass and the drum play off each other in the 2nd verse. Very interesting!!!!

All of their stuff is amazing, you should listen to 'Dice' & 'Don't You Tell Me' next, they are my 2 favorite songs. Also their newest song 'Dragon Cries' is pretty good as well, its actually in English.

Thanks Shanksy. 30👍& 14👎at this point is a bit of a disappointment so I'm guessing your viewers prefer a different genre? Maybe it's their attire? Or the language barrier? No matter, I'm just curious because I hadn't seen that many 👎on channels with over 10,000 views, unless they just totally trashed the band, but you seemed to enjoy & appreciate them so I'm happy to hear that you're willing to do more. I'm sure others have already mentioned, but some of their harder hitting songs would be the newly released MV for Rinne, or the live performances of Puzzle & Moritorium.
I think the dislikes are more aimed at me rather than the band mate - seems to be a cultural difference where it’s thought I am not focussed on the music. I enjoyed them a lot and will see how it evens out that’s mate

I've heard the song probably at least a 100 times so I want to hear what the reactor thinks, so I'm on board with you. Are Band-Maid fans spoiled by simply watching reactors facial expressions while listening straight through without pausing? I just finished watching Shanksy's Jinjer reaction to the song Teacher Teacher & it's all 👍. It just "Puzzle"'s me, lol. Get it? Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyways, thanks again Shanksy.

This was like a reaction for people below 90 in the IQ spectrum . How can you possibly listen to it properly stopping it that often. Why stop it at all iff you don't have anything constructive, interesting or amusing to say. Probably the worst and most irritating reaction I have seen for some time. Absolutely terrible just awful.
