@The Stormblooper Hopefully they will listen to that live version in Montreal. One of the coolest things about Queen is how much their songs differ from the studio version and live. Often they sound like totally different songs. This studio version is great but the Montreal version blows you away.

With Queen you get Gospel, soul, funk, jazz, blues, heavy metal, folk, ragtime, rock & roll, callipso, opera, ballards and of course your basic rock music. They did it all and their live performances were on another level. There is just so much to learn about Queen and their incredible range of music. Four incredible musicians and song writers with different tastes and ideas that blended into one amazing band.

Queen is in their own lane, they can't be pegged in a certain category. They make music for the masses.. They are all so professional in their crafts, and take pride in what they produce. Reaching back to early 70's making classic jams. Love me some Queen!!

BJ. Right on. Freddie loved Arethas vocal. He loved blues, rock and….classical and opera. That’s why his music along with the rest of the group is all over the place. Organized..all over.

There's actually only 3 people singing on this track: Mercury, Roger Taylor and Brian May. What they did was stack vocal track on top of vocal track on top of vocal track on top of vocal track make it seem like a choir. That was Freddie's idea. Try Dragon Attack by them next, from the album The Game. If you do the official lyric video, it probably won't get blocked.

Considered one of the best, if not the best, rock vocalist but also the best front man of music. Thanks for reacting to Queen. The Montreal 1981 is most people's favorite of this song. After that, Try White Queen live Hammersmith or Dragon attack 1981 montreal.

When watching the backup singers during this recording, bear in mind that both Roger and Brian sing these backups live while playing Drums and lead guitar which with Queen, never pulls back because of the vocals. Great song, Thank you for reacting. I agree with the other comment that live at Montreal 1981 is a mind blowing performance also. You really have to listen to this one and that one to see how dynamic this group really is. Don't feel guilty Asia, Freddie thought this was a better song than Bohemian Rhapsody and he wrote both so you are in good company. And Queen: Good Company is a fun song too, that one written and performed by Brian.

    • @imweakfordeaky

@@reneemenosky873 Freddie did not write “most” of their songs . Brian was almost equally productive as a songwriter. (Freddie and Brian were the main songwriters, especially on the first 3 albums)
John wrote the fewest, but his “batting average” of well-received songs is excellent. Roger’s best ones didn’t come easily early on, but he hit a good stride in the 80’s and on into the last albums.

Freddie "Four Octaves" Mercury was classically trained (as a youngster...) in music - hence, the mix of all different kinds of musical styles, all beautifully rolled into one!
When QUEEN performed at London's Wembley Stadium during "LIVE AID '85" (a concert to benefit Africa, which at the time had experienced severe drought that consequently led to horrific everyday conditions for the people living on this continent...) - Freddie had all of us (70.000+...) eating out of his hand... and for ~20 minutes, the UK was ruled by a different QUEEN.
I highly recommend you guys watch/react to that YT clip - you won't be disappointed!

Please listen to "In the Lap of The Gods" studio version (NOT the Revisited version, totally different song)... and see why Freddie called Roger his 'dog whistle'... Thanks for another great reaction!!

  • @Pixelologist
    @Pixelologist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Queen's harmonies were ALWAYS fire! That was one of their trademarks - that and Brian's overdubbed guitars....along with, of course, Freddie's lead vocals....were big parts of what gave them their distinctive sound.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE "Barcelona" with Freddie Mercury ft. Montserrat Caballe. They wrote their own songs but mostly Freddie did the writing. There was a video on TH-cam asking which version of this same song you thought was the best. Freddie Mercury or George Michaels.

I can't listen to this song without being Mesmerized all over again just as I was as a young kid in 1977. I am a musician, that was inspired by Queen years ago , and I have heard many great bands, singers, and vocal groups through the years, but I can say without a doubt , I can't think of one other band, or one other vocalist , with the talent, style , charisma, and epic ability as Queen. I think I backed the right horse when , as a 12 year old kid all my Friends were beating their heads to Kiss, and AC-DC, and I was sitting with my headphones on and drinking in the endless genius , and nuance of Queen,s music.

  • @loadedorygun

This is my favorite vocal of Freddie’s. It’s a plaintive cry for love, but somehow there’s a real joy to it. Probably the gospel influence. I love the double claps, the piano percussion near the end, and him just wandering all over the harmony chorus at the end. Usually Roger Taylor handles all the highest vocals because he had the highest top end, but this one is Freddy and it’s such a beautiful croon even in falsetto. And the pitch management!

I know what you mean, Asia. I am soprano alto. If I’m near someone singing either, I switch to it, without trying. It’s very challenging, but when I was young, they were always putting us together.
62 now, and I grew up on just about everything. Happy I lived the life I have, in experiencing all the beautiful genres of music, of the past and present, in real time. It brings me joy to share the reactions of young people today, to my music of yesterday.

This was his homage to the great Aretha Franklin...he just absolutely adored her and her singing. This was his favourite song that he ever written. *Note* He had an Aretha song played at his funeral.

Most Queen tracks were designed to be performed live and that's where Queen take everything to a level that very few can , will or have obtained .. 👌

Queen was an International Phenomenon they played in Japan, Argentina during the Junta, South Africa during Apartheid, Brazil and of course the USA,. They were best in a stadium and Stole the show at Wimbledon with their 20 minute Live Aid for Africa set. It was their come back after Freddie Mercury left the band.

Freddie never left the band and it wasn't a comeback. They had just completed a major tour (The Works) a month before Live Aid. (I really hate that stupid movie.)

Just a little heads up. (My opinion) Queen were absolutely the masters of almost every genre. Rock, metal, country, opera, Broadway, you name it & Queen could do it & more than likely have. And fun fact, Brian May, the guitarist, is actually an astrophysicist.
