  • Both the mistle and the song thrush start singing much earlier in the year than most other birds and their beautiful songs brighten up many a dull late winter morning.

    What a wonderful primer on these two birds. This is an outstanding resource for birders, with exceptionally clear comparisons, both visually and aurally. Great job Maurice.

    I was listening to a Song Thrush sing only yesterday, unfortunately there was too much traffic to enjoy it properly so thanks making this film, great sound quality.

      Thanks Maurice for the MistleThrush song and its ratchetty screech too. I was woken by one yesterday 4am in Marylebone by very loud birdsong on the rooftops. I have a new BirdNET app and recorded the song. Amazed to see it was a MistleThrush visiting this part of capital!

    Subscribed after finding your Great Tit songs video. I grew up in Liverpool and we got a lot of common garden birds. After living in North Germany I've been in Norway for ten years now. I spotted a lone mistle thrush today in the garden. I'm planning on getting some field recording equipment to sample the sounds of my surroundings.
    Lovely videos Maurice and I'd gladly use these in my biology lessons at school.

      Thanks for your kind comments. It's a pity that you don't have the song thrush over there but I know that you have another of our favourite songsters, the blackbird, which I gather has established itself and is doing very well on the other side of the world.

    PS The two trees near the end of the video with the apricot & white berries are the trees I have just had planted ( I think it's them) in my garden & I hope this autumn they will have berries for the birds. Su x

    • @MauriceBaker100
      @MauriceBaker100  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope your trees do well and have loads of berries this autumn. They are one of the best garden trees to plant as the leaves will also give you a beautiful display of rich autumn colours later in the year. They are listed in garden catalogs as Rowan or Sorbus, but I still use the old country name of Mountain Ash just as I do with Dunnock & Hedge Sparrow, also Lapwing and Peewit, old habits die hard!

    What is the bird that sings in the background besides the thrush? I had one of that singer in the yard every night, really want to know what it is.
